VA Finalist | National Geographic Bee 2011

hello my name is Patrick hems i am
earned in virginia I have a
seventh-grader hernan male school hernan
is in an area rich in just outside of
Washington DC called Northern Virginia
my town is located about 20 miles west
of the nation’s capital it was once a
dairy farm land but was urbanized and is
now a major employment center it was
also the site of summer houses of DC
residents tried to escape the city a
post office in the name of her name was
first opened in 1858
well North Virginia is driven with
historical and natural landmarks I hear
Great Falls National Park not a
15-minute drive to my house and just
watch
this part where the National Park
Service’s center on
one of the most impressive waterfalls
as dared insane Tigers go down falls for
years
Marilyn side not in the park when
another car crosses over East canals
represent two failed attempts to make
potomac
as far west as Cumberland Maryland the
park is also home
white-tailed deer red foxes coyotes
beavers fossils that’s all giggles and
stuff
also down river along from atomic our
Arlington National Cemetery in the
nearby Iwo Jima memorial historic
Alexander had founded in 1749 Mount
Vernon which was the first place it was
Washington in addition south of Herndon
is the city of manassas
nearby society importance of war valves
both Bora
jenny has built the history to the fact
the birthplace of seven American
presidents as you know that George
Washington grew up a little south what
we know now in Washington DC in the city
of Fredericksburg along the Rappahannock
River more than who’s worn alone east of
Fredericksburg an area called the North
met an area that served as breadbasket
of her colonies
what does being green mean to me being
green is not one specific course of
action but rather an overall lifestyle
designed to minimize impact on the
environment even little things like
turning off lights when you leave a room
we’re cutting open plastic soda rings so
they can’t ensnare sea creatures when
they reach the ocean which happens quite
often this can be considered green if
you even if it’s the only thing you do
considering how many people there are on
earth changing one aspect of your life
to make greener will have a big impact
imagine if your East to take more steps
of that
all right hey this is my pet gecko
climber he’s here to help me answer some
more questions about myself so if I were
to get a ticket to go anywhere and water
in the world where would I go I would go
to South Africa and its neighboring
countries I love animals so I would go
on grassland safari to see Lions rhinos
elephants leopards in African Buffalo I
would also tour the coast see African
penguins visit the desert to see their
native plants and animals and explore
the culture of the zoo and Bushmen to
native tribes of that region
I use a lot of books along with plenty
of online resources such as quizzes and
databases they also have learned to pay
attention in with not studying because I
can find information about geography and
the most anjali related sources like TV
shows that have nothing to do with
geography at all
what is my favorite geography fact my
favorite geography fact is that the
mongols formed the largest land empire
in the history of the world it stretched
from Poland to Korea
since I love animals and all other types
of life I currently own a dog a crested
gecko a betta fish and a bunch of exotic
plants by the way my dog is a fox hmmm
the stick dog of Virginia I love to go
to zoos and aquariums wherever i go i
also love to read and play computer
games
