UT Finalist | National Geographic Bee 2012

hello my name is Anthony Chang and I’m
the 2011 Utah State National Geographic
champion this was my hometown sandy
located at the foothills of the Wasatch
Range in Utah it is the fifth largest
city in Utah sandy was founded in the
1870s as a center for mining it soon
became the center for the smelting
business but underwent and change in the
1890s because the mines had shut down
this change was to an agricultural
society after the Great Depression
sandy mainly became a residential
community
even though sandy Sylvia’s will serve
residential community is still near a
lot of Spears resulta Snowbird and right
one of the thirty sorts of Park City
which hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics
these make you thought one of the best
places in the nation to go ski Utah as a
whole all sides a ton of the parks and
trails which are ideal for hiking biking
and other fun outdoor activities the
five national parks in Utah are among
the most famous in the nation so if you
love the outdoors Utah is a great place
to go another major attraction of Sandi
is the Rio Tinto Stadium the Rio Tinto
Stadium is the first soccer-specific
Stadium in Utah and holds about 20,000
people so it’s one of the larger ones in
the US the Rio Tinto Stadium hosts the
Real Salt Lake soccer team my favorite
team they were the 2009 MLS Cup
champions second place last year 2010
I come here every once involved watch
games they are fun
I’m here at the entrance to the
seasonally gardens in the south of sandy
sandy city was rated the best in the US
for water conservation this garden is
one of the first in the Wasatch Front to
show how you can use very little water
and drought resistant plants to still
create a beautiful landscape that is
green this is our family garden we try
to plant vegetables here all year long
we don’t use any pesticides so all of
the plants growing in our garden or
organic there’s not only a healthier way
for us to live it was also one of the
few ways our family tries to stay green
hey did you know in Salt Lake City it’s
illegal for residents to be carrying
around a paper bag with a file in it so
in this paper bag I don’t have a filing
National Geographic videos
one of the most exciting experiences I
had last year was my performance with
the Utah Symphony under the wall known
conductor maestro Terry Fisher
I was playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto
number 23 and a major move the one and
it was to say music to my ears I think
music has helped me perform better in
competitions because I get used to being
up on stage
