that morning I was pleased to see that
we had gathered a lot of ex-amish
together to help rebuild and I knew the
volunteer coordinators were very
grateful for the turnout so how many
more do you guys have yeah that’s great
Chris I’m Jody nice to meet you that’s
me this is Dan a crew of ex-amish
workers is perfect for a job like this
because almost every ex-amish guy is a
skilled carpenter and a hard worker
we’re gonna do some roof repairs today
and you know something that may seem
very small and for you guys may be kind
of easy because you from my
understanding grew up in an environment
where you learned a lot of skills and a
lot of trades a lot of people aren’t
afforded that you know and so on you
guys are people’s miracles today so much
was just leveled so our plan was to
rebuild the houses that were still
standing for the owners that we’re still
living in them
one house in particular had massive
damage to the roof we just pile it’s
kind of bad we were asked to cover it
with a tarp as a temporary fix but a
temporary fix it’s not the Amish way
when you fix something you fix it for
good so we decided to put up a brand new
roof so basically in here we need like
one two three four Hudson at least four
sheets of plywood 48 working was kind of
like the Amish barn raising the yarn
guys were up on the roof and the older
guys were on the ground making sure
everything got done here
on this they don’t throw something
solutions okay you do mounted onto you
more because all of us were ex-amish we
all work the same way and we were able
to get right down to business
good carpentry takes strong math skills
skills we learned when we were very
young this makes us accurate and fast
when we’re on the job by mid day we had
a good start on the house
and I was just hoping the boys would
have the roof done by the time the owner
came home that evening
