when I first came here seven years ago
this hillside was of little value wow
it’s even harder to get down here when
it’s frozen
we’ve been converting it to a garden
that meets most of our needs a rain
storm intercepting forest hillside that
makes food you know that’s kind of what
we’re up to
I was a suburbanite raised with video
games and thermostat on the wall and
refrigerator and all that I actually
worked at a Starbucks which was
interesting not having to deal with the
financial and social pressures of the
real world gives me the time and space
to breathe and live Shakalaka
rather I have a steep piece of land that
I can actually enjoy and hang out on and
have a nice piece of bottom land that I
never get to see because I’m always like
at the office I’m distancing myself from
the things that make people sick stress
the relentless pursuit of money
pollution miso shitake cats okay oh it’s
good yeah growing at foraging and
grabbin roadkill these are some of the
most satisfying activities I have come
across you can get food with your hands
and your eyeballs you can go get the
food you know you don’t need to grocery
store necessary we’re only limited by
our own imagination yeah all right if
you can see it in your mind and you can
locate the materials you can do it you
can create a paradise out of garbage
if you’re imaginative enough you know
you use your creativity and so we’re
doing
