we are a target of a million kids and we
wanted them to fall in love with nature
and the tiger we wanted to explain was
just a metaphor for all of nature and I
couldn’t think of anyone with a greater
legitimacy to ask for a better tomorrow
than the children we go out to between
500 and 600 schools across the country
our prime age group is between eight and
twelve we’ve now got a veritable army of
young kids what we say is this no one
can save the tiger if you don’t save its
forest its habitat and naturally if
you’ve saved the forest you’ve saved
every single species living in that
forest from small to large and we give
children this rationale saying saving
the tiger you end up saving yourself and
you guys are a voice for tomorrow so
remind the adults that this is what you
do this is why you do and you don’t want
them to destroy your world it’s not very
complicated actually children have a
natural affinity for nature and all we
do is we open the gate and let nature
and kids intermingle we first started
going out with kids in the urban centers
Mumbai Calcutta delhi Madras Bangalore
places and the response was incredible
the children in the city don’t have much
of a chance of interacting with nature
and kids but
that opportunity by introducing them to
animals and plants in and around the
school and then on to Sanjay Gandhi
National Park in Mumbai which is the
next stepping stone that is the real
introduction to follows first I was not
that much into nature but after coming
with them I came to know that nature is
such a beautiful thing and what we see
in nature is damn unusual and we can’t
see it a normal life or out in the
metropolitan cities like Mumbai you know
for the last 30 40 50 years what we’ve
been doing is we’ve reduced the physical
space that the tiger could walk on
behalf of all tiger habitats have gone
forever they’ve been turned into towns
mines etc we’ve had a prime minister who
after he met our children went out four
days later to the national board of
wildlife and made a statement that the
children have woken up why are you
adults all asleep we seed our children
with hope and what we tell them is
justice you save the tiger you save the
planet
I have a feeling that we are making us a
very definitive change we are changing
the mindset of our country we must have
respect for things natural and the tiger
is – India what India’s national flag is
to the country it represents who we are
our spirit our hopes
perhaps our tomorrow’s we can we will
save the tiger
