Tigers Forever: Saving the World’s Most Endangered Big Cat | National Geographic

hi my name is steve winter and i’m a
photographer for National Geographic
magazine working with scientists I got
to the realization that Tigers are in
real trouble and thought we should do a
tiger story because of it I get into
Kaziranga and I want to come on the
parks closed monsoons just happen
animals can only walk on certain trails
because they don’t all like walking in
the water so I want to get a tiger in a
certain area and no one’s ever come to
this park and done then it’s too
dangerous to go spend a couple hours in
this tall grass putting up a camera trap
it’s way too dangerous with so I find an
area that I think is absolutely perfect
for a tiger in there I see female with a
cub walking behind I go to the director
of the park and I say I’d love to put a
camera there and he goes Steve it’s just
too dangerous that afternoon we checked
one of my camera traps in one of the
flooded areas got this picture of a
rhino looking into the camera with blood
running down his horn he’s been fighting
with another male the females in the
distance I come the next morning I say
well look what we got yesterday and he
goes this is what you’re trying to get
we’ve never seen anything like this
before you want to do your tiger will
give you four guards and that can patrol
the area while you’re putting the camera
trap up and lo and behold I get one of
the most incredible pictures that I’ve
ever gotten in my whole career that is
accessible that gives people a chance to
look at Tigers again which is going to
help save Tigers
