The Man Who Can Fly | National Geographic

if you picked up a climbing magazine
over the last 15 years you’ve read about
Dean Potter
once people started going longer and
higher he just dominated it
and it’s been great to see his
transition into BASE jumping and
freebase I mean that’s groundbreaking in
the summer of 2009 he free climbs the
Eiger and flies for two minutes and 50
seconds setting a world record now Dean
Potter assembles an expedition to
accomplish something never done before
there’s the view free climb the 9,000
foot peak of Canada’s Mount Butte glide
to the valley below breaking his own
world record
the journey Potter must take in
preparation for this first will involve
a cast of friends scientists and
craftsmen if we can pull this off it’ll
be epic it’ll be huge but mostly it will
take Potter’s unique blend of daring
determination
he just did it without a rope he did it
without a rope did you hear me the first
time and death-defying risk during all
these times on the line or on the rock I
was afraid of the air and always thought
if I enter the air I’ll be a dead man
now I’m more comfortable in the air than
I am holding on to the rock Dean Potter
is the man who can fly Sunday February
