the longer you take pictures I think the
more infatuated you become with mystery
and abstraction and coming at things
from a little different angle then maybe
you did when you were first in
journalism and one of the most
delightful ways I’ve found to seek and
find abstraction and mysteries from the
air I love just getting up from a new
angle looking at things from a
completely different perspective and
then sometimes you’ll bump into a big
surprise where you’ve got camels
crossing the desert and at first glance
in the photograph you think well those
are the camels but no those are the
shadows you’ll see more layers to the
picture the longer you study the picture
and those abstract mysterious pictures I
think become more more cherished as your
career progresses and you mature the
beauty the camel picture is is that it
gets to the Mirage aspect of the desert
and when you’re in a place like like a
saw which is reputedly the hottest place
on earth
you live almost in a fog a mirage
because the heat is so utterly stifling
so that just adds all more to the sense
of mystery and abstraction because you
literally feel it out there everything’s
a bit wavy and fussy and hard to figure
on the first encounter
