pilot is a Roman soldier who sent to be
governor of Jerusalem there’s no
question that it’s an epic story I think
for me how it works for me though that
you know with Pilate is you get to see
Pilate a little bit behind the scenes
you know it’s not just played out in
front of a crowd
why must you cater to these priests the
Tetra people kill him enjoy better Ross
of his father must do something when
you’re playing a character like Pilate
who has that kind of burden of history
on him I think sometimes what I’ve seen
it portrayed he comes across as weak we
don’t see what what other things
Caiaphas has got on what other things
Antipas is dealing with what what Pilate
is dealing with running a city on a
daily basis and it could quite simply
have been that you know a one moment
he’s doing roads and taxes at another
point he’s somebody stolen from somebody
the next one comes in but this one
thinks he’s king of the Jews and it’s
just ok scourge him tax them you know I
think it’s much I think it’s a really
interesting story to actually think
about how this story became what it did
his crime is not sedition they’re not he
rails against Roman taxes if I would
have crucify every Jew who rails against
our taxes I would have to live all the
Cedars of Lebanon for would I really
don’t see Pilate as the victim in this I
think he has been driven to make
decisions by the scenario governor not
open the gate
we brought a criminal for judgment
take him and judge him under your law
and fs just keeps pushing and pushing my
bishop until finally Pilate just
eventually
not that’s all it takes to create this
domino effect over the next two thousand
years the idea that something like that
could be the wellspring for this for
what Christianity became is this is a
fascinating idea because one would think
it would have to be something far bigger
and so I think that there if anything
there is within this script a lot of
those kind of subtleties that that make
it make interest
you
