from what I’ve been told my helmet saved
my life it was a new years of 2009 I was
training for the Vancouver Winter
Olympics in Park City Utah and sustained
a traumatic brain injury you know that
resulted in me having to relearn how to
do the most normal simple things
learning to walk and talk and swallow
competition was no longer a reality for
me I had this identity and my identity
was a snowboarder I needed to find a new
identity and a new path
you know never wants to ever cross my
mind that I wouldn’t get back to
snowboarding you know that never even
entered my mind
the first time back getting dried powder
was so much fun when you’re just riding
that powder and you’re on one of those
boards where you’re just floating on top
of the snow and you’re just able to just
cruise because I had this thing that I
wanted to get back to so bad it’s like I
put that working and I I did what it
took teaching a person to be the best
that they can be and to love themselves
for the way they are whether they have
an injured brain whether they have down
syndrome to love who they are is so
important and so that’s kind of what
we’ve been trying to start with this
whole love your brain movement as you
know to teach people the idea of what it
means to love the human brain and to
love yourself my new mission now and my
new goal is to help I want to give back
because I have gotten so much that I
feel like now it’s my turn to be able to
give something this you know what I’m
doing right now right here this is what
I have worked so hard and I have given
so much for the last four years is to be
able to do this and it is so special I
don’t quite know how I’m able to swing
and how I’m able to pull it by I’m able
to really live in awesome special
special light
