well Toronto’s and you know one of those
kind of handful of cities that you know
hockey is obviously you know as a rich
tradition as a passion you know all the
way up till modern day that it’s tough
to rival in any other city I think you
know a lot of countries have their
national sports that a certain group
might think it’s the national sport they
might think it’s it’s the the undisputed
one but in Canada it’s on the $5 bill
you all looked very far in Canada to
find someone that has a connection to
hockey and then usually a strong
connection everybody knows someone that
played the NHL or there’s small town
they knew someone that made it to the
NHL
Canadian hockey players in general are
very giving they they’re concerned with
their communities that they play in
where they came from very humble and to
a fault it almost is a challenge to
market the game because they they almost
don’t want the profile they just want to
blend in and do their thing but the
beauty of our players and the players in
the NHL is that they want to make a
difference they spend time making a
difference it doesn’t matter what it is
I really got in touch with Devon more
than anything when we started the carbon
neutral challenge and he I mean he just
helped out so much with that and and we
just kind of you know when you meet
somebody and you see eye-to-eye and
you’re just kind of instant friends and
it was kind of like that so I just got
dropped off on Niagara Street and
Toronto which isn’t the easiest Street
for a taxi cab fine but if they do find
it we get to come to my favorite
restaurant here
Niagara Street Cafe I think this is
probably what a dozen times I’ve been
here starting at what six years ago
so local food organic food my name is
Anton Potvin I’m the owner and sommelier
at the Niagara Street Cafe
I had the restaurant for seven and a
half years focusing on local sustainable
and organic food whenever possible yes
everything that is so the thing we found
like obviously we want to have a good
meal and we’re always in cities like the
day before games to want to have a good
healthy meal and you come in to places
that you know have those credentials or
do those things and you’re almost
guaranteed to get good food because
you’re you’re at a restaurant where
people take their food seriously it was
really great to hear that he was there
for that reason that it wasn’t just a
recommendation from hotel concierge that
he actually you know sought the
restaurant out because of what we do
that was pretty pretty impressive you
don’t you don’t see that a lot with
surprisingly with Professor
athletes when you own you go to place
like Toronto it’s it’s a the whole vibe
of the city you know everything was
based around the hockey season and
everybody’s excited for it you know the
city embraces the whole league so the
special place play being on the road I
mean it’s normal across because that’s
all we’ve ever known off seasons
completely at any one time and then you
know during the season road trips are
part of it and everything is just almost
you know to the minute fans are crazy
you can’t buy a ticket it’s hard you
know I have friends that come to maybe
one game a year and it’s a big Christmas
present to come so stock you back up
someone’s got a will and it always helps
when the guys you’re gonna go visit
after the game like root here at see
Andrew you win so easy they get really
grumpy when they lose really soon
you
