Playful, Elusive Foxes Took Years to Capture on Camera | National Geographic

buzzing down the highway off in the
distance are all these cars and they
probably think that there’s nothing out
there at all but that can’t be any
further from the truth
I spent the last 15 years or so coming
back again and again to these vast
prairie dog towns in these grasslands in
western South Dakota
so I’ve sat in this tent probably close
to ten days on and off for the last
couple months I haven’t taken one
photograph I’m finally able to move into
position here the last couple trips out
here to sit in here I come in here
before first light don’t leave until
right around the Twilight and wait the
day away for something to happen
unfortunately nothing’s ever happened so
far wish me luck
something finally did happen good from
that blind sometimes where you get a
remote camera out next to the den the
pups come up they use it as shade they
use it as a jungle gym you can’t keep
them away the Swift Fox fits into the
Prairie echo system like a glove they
run fast
they have great eyesight they’re
protected by the elements by living in
holes underground they are one of over a
hundred vertebrate species alone that
make their lives in this prairie
ecosystem
I’ve been coming to these wide-open
spaces for a very long time first time I
walked into this landscape took ahold of
me and I’ve never been able to let go
I hope I’m able to come back here every
year for the rest of my life
