Overhang Challenge | Rock Stars

as Darcy and Anthony began to manhandle
the bolts into position the challenge of
the overhang becomes apparent with no
footing they’ll have to muscle 50 pounds
of Steel into a three and a half inch
hole using only their upper bodies
without leverage it takes every ounce of
strength they’ve got
Matt readies the second bolt you got a
good nod on it either one of us want to
be impaled okay buddy I’ll take one for
the team because of the overhang Matt
can’t see where the rod is going the
heavy steel bolt is suspended by a
single line so our darcy and anthony
it’s taking all their muscle power to
control it holy
finally the bolt inches into the hole
Darcy and Anthony now have to ten-foot
anchor bolts installed they’re already
exhausted and still haven’t even touched
that 30 foot monsters up top geologists
must attach monitors to these three
bolts before they can be passed down but
the geologists are late throwing off
Pierre’s tight schedule with the three
sites and the public involved and the
weather we had to juggle with the
schedule all right we’re gonna get some
bars installed today or anything
the geologists finally get to work
attaching instruments called strain
gauges to each 30-foot bolt they can
measure changes in the length of the bar
so should the rock shift and move and
stretch that bar out we should be able
to pick that up and it’ll give us some
advance warning for the next 100 years
these gauges will alert the park to any
dangerous movement in the rock but
installing them is taking longer than
expected Darcy and Anthony still waiting
for their geologists to finish
installing their instrumentation are
growing impatient right it’s already 10
o’clock is it okay well we’re just going
to install this last one and then we’ll
