On the Topic of Fist Bumps | Going Deep With David Rees

here’s my question these types of
touches are not to me the same as this
kind of touch but here’s what I love and
Darwin would have loved the fist-bump
right so I like this go on the fist bump
honors one of Darwin’s evolutionary
principles of communication which is
which is the principle of antithesis
which you take a signal which could be
up yours right I’m gonna do some damage
and you convert it into its opposite
meaning which is we’re buddies right oh
that’s incredible
well it doesn’t apply to the handshake
right because the handshake doesn’t
signify it it doesn’t know and that’s a
thing you know again like we know from
our studies open hands means right it’s
the opposite of oh right so yeah that
makes sense so it is honors a different
set of principles than what Darwin was
talking about its friendly affiliation
openness and then physical see this is
why like when we make the show and they
tell me to be appealing they say I can’t
start each episode like this like you
ready to have a lot of fun and learn a
bunch of fun stuff you idiots I want to
be like welcome to another episode my
friends nice eyebrow movements there too
is that signaling sorry you know I’m
taking sincerity lessons it’s a
correspondence course
