OK Finalist | National Geographic Bee 2011

hi my name is Suraj
uma Nathan and I’m going to represent
in 2011 National Geographic beat I live
in the town of Edmond which is located
in Central Oklahoma right next to the
capital Oklahoma City
if you were to come to Oklahoma there
are many things to see both natural and
man-made in fact Oklahoma has the
largest number of reservoirs of any
state in the u.s. one of the places that
you could visit is the Grand link of the
chair piece it is located in
northeastern Oklahoma in the foothills
of the Ozarks range the reservoir which
is created by Pensacola dam is
administered by the Grand River Dam
authority Pensacola dam were just
created in the late 1930s claims to be
the longest multiple arch dam in the
entire world another place that you
could visit is Arcadia lake located
right here in Edmond the lake was
created in 1987 when an earthen dam was
placed across the deep Fork River the
reservoir was created to prevent
flooding in the deep Fork River Basin
and also to supply water to the city of
Edmond additionally there are several
parks located near and around the lake
to me being green means that we have to
reduce the amount of pollution that we
are releasing into the atmosphere also
we must diminish the amount of energy
that we’re using up each and every day
finally we should start using renewable
energy resources more such as wind and
solar power
if I was in charge its earthed for a day
the first problem that I would tackle is
poverty poverty is widespread and the
resolution of this major crisis can lead
to solutions for many other problems
across the world as well
here’s our and in fact did you note that
there is a city named Rome on every
continent in the world except for
Antarctica it’s true there is a realm in
the country of Lesotho which is in
Africa there is a Rome in Ecuador which
is in South America there’s a Rome in
Indonesia which is in Asia there is Rome
in Queensland which is a state in
Australia there is the Rome in Texas and
of course there’s the Rome in Italy
if I could go anywhere in the world I
would go to the country of Norway I
would like to go there because it has
some of the world’s most stunning
scenery and landscapes also Norway is
the world’s second most
environment-friendly country behind only
Switzerland
in order to learn all the information
needs for the beat I take many practice
quizzes online also I use an atlas to
learn where a major physical and
political features of the world are
located finally I use various resource
books to learn facts about each country
of the world
if I could trade places with any famous
Explorer I would trade places with
Zebulon Pike I would do this because he
was able to explore the southwest region
of the United States during a time
period when not many people had gone
there before also there is a mountain in
Colorado named after him Pikes Peak
when I grow up I would like to be a
petroleum engineer I would like to do
this job because it combines elements of
both math and geography would you two of
my most favorite subjects finally I
would like to thank National Geographic
for giving me this wonderful opportunity
