NJ Finalist | National Geographic Bee 2013

hi I’m will degrade me 2013 early stage
geographic region I’m an 8th grader at
Warren middle school located Lauren
Township Somerset County New Jersey
Warren which was named for General
Joseph Warren the hero who lost his life
in the Battle of Bunker Hill has a
little bit of the old and new behind me
you can see this school for autistic
children built right here into this
valley across from the school’s ashamed
park and adjacent is the mount bethel
meeting house which dates back to 1700
and listed on the National Register of
Historic Places one was originally
inhabited one of a Native American and
was settled in the 17-20 by European
partners Messalina Watchung mountains
Warren and the surrounding area provided
a great vantage point for general george
washington when he battled the british
in the Revolutionary War here’s
Washington rock state park let’s go
check out the view here in Washington
rock you can get a good feeling of what
it must have felt like to see for miles
all around in the Revolutionary War
George Washington use this rock as a
natural fortress to spy on the British
bases in new brunswick and perth amboy
also this is a great spot to watch
fireworks on the fourth of july in 2009
warm is right number six
by cnnmoney magazine as one of the best
places to live mentioning in particular
the school’s wide open spaces and 74
working farms Florence still has plenty
of farm stands hash shopping centers I
looked at my town of 19 world at the
same time not to urban Italian to
Japanese neck see it and even Afghans it
was here in that room that I began
learning about geography last week my
mom and I cleaned out my closet and
found all these picture books in the
atlases that I begin collecting at age
five the summer after kindergarten I
went on an Alaskan cruise of my parents
one of the interesting facts I learned
about Alaska is that isn’t three
hemispheres northern western and eastern
this is a book I receives from my German
homestay family who I stayed with while
traveling through Europe with a student
ambassador group people to people I’m
editor I’m builder eyes and I was like a
little Mike res boil line Shafton own
ina anger and less clima that’s
boomstick and yet a von hoon I’m kidding
I’m carefully read German they took they
live near the Swiss border and then took
me to see this this is ryan Falls a
waterfall in Switzerland in which the
Rhine River traveled through the swiss
countryside on its way to the North Sea
and speaking of waterfalls last month my
family and I went to Niagara Falls for
spring break little did I know that
would help me win the state Geography
Bee the question that I one on asked me
what Canadian progress is
niagara-on-the-lake located in
fortunately I spent the day there’s a
week before so I knew the answer was
Ontario while the runner-up said Quebec
I’ve definitely realized that years of
study and curiosity I’ve helped me to
become a Geography Bee champion but a
little luck doesn’t hurt and by the way
I’m a big j up in rock chalk jayhawk i
would love to travel to many places
around the world but if I had one free
plane ticket to go anywhere I would
travel to Norway I’ve heard and read
about his beauty
majesty and I would love to see the
fjords and learn more about the Vikings
also did you know that Norway and
Vietnam are separated by just two
countries Russia and China here just a
few blocks from my house here’s an area
of wood that shows how devastating
hurricane sandy rise to new jersey huge
trees were uprooted and there was
massive damage to some homes in fact
some people lost power for two weeks and
school was closed for ten days although
small really
