MD Finalist | National Geographic Bee 2011

hi my name is MIA walkable and I was a
Maryland state geography teacher Here I
am in my hometown of Davis which is
about a 10-minute Drive
Here I am in Baltimore Maryland
Baltimore’s by far the largest city
amount it is also the 21st largest city
and its population is about six hundred
twenty thousand behind me is for McHenry
this is a major battle site in the war
of 1812 in 1814 after burning much of
Washington DC
the British moved on here they’ve all
boarded the fort by land and by sea and
the next morning Francis Scott Key wrote
a poem about what happened it was known
as the star-spangled banner’ later this
poem was translated into song and became
our national anthem in the most
important city of Maryland Annapolis has
been the capital
it was settled in 1649 and incorporated
as a town in 1708 after the signing of
the Treaty of Paris ending the
Revolutionary War 1783 to 1784 Annapolis
became the nation’s capital behind me
here is the Statehouse this is the
Capitol building and it has been since
the construction of it 1772
it’s still used today and has made it
the longest-serving State Capitol
building in the u.s. still in use it
also served during Annapolis this time
as the Capitol as the nation’s capitol
building here I am still in Maryland but
now I’m on a dock behind me there are
many sailing boats and the Chesapeake
Bay there’s always been a large part of
Maryland’s culture especially Annapolis
which is also considered the sailing
capital of the world my own school 7th
ranked number one in 2008 and won the
national champions at championships that
same year Annapolis is also the home to
the naval cat training facility for
anybody wishing to own something I hope
you enjoyed my video on mound and you
learned a little more about Maryland
than you already
