Mating Crabs Busted by Sharks | National Geographic

we were out on a National Geographic
expedition to do a survey of the des
fêtes islands off the coast of Chile I
was sending deep water cameras to count
sea life that was down there on one of
the drops the lights turned on and there
were a couple crabs that were holding on
to each other and some kind of embrace I
did a little bit of research and this is
actually a male hanging on to the female
and what he’s doing is basically
grabbing her as tight as he can so she
can’t get away it’s pretty unfortunate
for the two lovers because we dropped
the camera essentially where they were
doing their thing the camera has eight
on it and lights which attracted a lot
of other marine life to their little
love nest and when you speed the video
up you can really tell that they’re
irritated by all the new unwanted
visitors basically it was a quite as
interruptus moment at five hundred feet
underwater
