Introducing a Yearlong Celebration of National Parks | National Geographic

national parks are part of our DNA it’s
who we are the National Geographic
for more than 100 years National
Geographic has been committed to
national parks in 1960 we devoted an
entire issue of National Geographic
magazine to parks we called it land of
the best and we gave that to every
member of Congress with intent an intent
to establish a government agency to
manage those parks sensibly and smartly
for all of us a hundred years later it’s
the anniversary of the National Park
Service and that gives us an opportunity
to focus on what parks mean to all of us
and also where we’re going to take parks
we’ve got work to do and a lot of that
work will be controversial a lot of
issues humanity faces have an interplay
with parks

is the biggest editorial initiative in a
hundred plus year history we asked you
to come with us come on a journey let’s
participate and learn together as a
