Incredible Sea Lion Birth Captured on Video | National Geographic

something unexpected happened I would
say at the very end of the birthing
season we just witnessed the birth of a
sea lion pup quite amazing and we’ve all
been just witnessing that the birth is
relatively fast because the cranium of
the sea lion is not that big and the
pelvis of the cow is wide enough to
support that the body quite hydrodynamic
will follow fairly quick the gestation
period for sea lions is longer than
average and we call this sometimes the
delayed gestation sea lions here in
Galapagos want their pups to be born at
the right time and therefore the normal
pregnancy which is nine months is going
to be extended for two more months the
cow when she gets impregnated she will
develop straightaway a fetus but the
fetus will stay very very small and will
be stalled in growth the first two
months after that it starts growing if
the conditions are good
it might also happen that the sea lion
absorbs the whole fetus and nothing will
happen but in the case of growth she
will grow at another nine months and
then she will give birth to a pup
