this is a really expensive ottoman and
uh they put fabric on the top and in
tears and I got this from a friend of
mine he was going to throw it in the
trash and I goes no let me see if I can
fix it so I basically have a solid
welded framework of the weather proof
material that won’t rust in weather and
I got a break in here and a bracket
there so I’m going to take this fabric
off and see what I can build out of it
every time I find something I feel like
it’s a shame that someone went to all
the trouble to engineer and manufacture
a very nice useful item and then the
least little thing goes wrong with it
and people throw it away if you think
about it there’s a lot of ways to reuse
something either as it is I’ll repair it
what I’ll do is I’ll fasten a piece of
wood across there I’m going to drill a
couple of holes and put some bolts in it
I want the holes to line up this is what
you’d call a cordless variable speed
drill this is slow and this is fast it
amazing how it works a lot of times will
restrict it by times on what we can get
done but living in the woods give me an
opportunity to do nothing or set and be
creative and there’s no particular time
frame when it has to be done don’t have
any deadlines now I don’t usually use a
ruler because all it is in the piece of
metal with numbers on it but this board
is exactly that long
and if I put it like this this is
exactly half a board so if I put it to
my fingernail to there and make a mark
right there with my multi-tool which is
my tomahawk make the line look at that
two pieces
looks like about three boards have a bad
back right so I build anything I’ll make
sure it’s a little bit crooked
something’s a little bit different a
little bit off that way I can prove I
made it all right now we have chair let
me check if it works the only thing it
needs now I take is maybe a back but I’m
thinking well that angle looks pretty
good what would a support person do it
he’d only drive the nail in about a half
way in case it was crooked so you can
readjust it
oh look there if anybody ever looks at
the newspaper of the TV in the last
several decades
there’s just long stories about
unemployment job loss people losing
purchasing car prices bacon going up
gasoline going up just whole myriad of
things that cost more and people have
less money than they expect but if we
get the mindset of improvising live and
cheap turning trash into treasure and
living simply there’s way more than
enough
