how do you make something look like life
is worth living for me photography has
solved that mission of trying to
understand life the idea came one time
when I was in West Texas and I thought
that it would be interesting if I could
be free from rooms and actually take the
concept of a camera obscura onto the
field itself the Grand Canyon is this
great mythical hole it’s so engraving in
America’s psychic so it had to be done
one needs some kind of hub in the world
from which to look at things it means
that you’re not going to see everything
directional pictures but at least as you
see something from a place that you
really think that that’s where you
should be
Photography has changed me a lot because
it’s a medium that if you use it well it
tells you how to pay attention
move back then they’re there they’re
shooting this method of making pictures
where the image falls on the ground
feels different from any of the earlier
camera obscura pictures because it has a
kind of a naturalness to it and the
ground serves as an element that is
different every time I know the world is
wonderful but I can’t take it all but if
I give it a frame that I can pretend
that it’s the whole world and then then
that’s a lot easier to work with
you
