Eye Spy | National Geographic

you’ve heard about dogs being able to
hear high-pitched sounds that are
virtually undetectable to the human ear
well the latest buzz in the paleontology
world is that dinosaurs might have had a
similar extraordinary ability to see a
wider range of shades in the color
spectrum that humans can make out we’re
limited to a four color combination
where dinosaur relatives and maybe dinos
themselves can see much more including
infrared and ultraviolet dinosaurs are
after all just one branch of a long line
of colorful creatures scientists had
discovered that some birds like the
flashy peacock have a secret lair to
their blueprints or color scheme that’s
only visible and ultraviolet light
Tyrannosaurus Rex an early predecessor
to birds and thought to have advanced
vision could perhaps make out prey
otherwise camouflaged by natural light
so unbeknownst to this guy the ultra
violet color found in his skin could
actually act as a hidden signal to the
eyes of a stocking t-rex on the flip
side these special color powers could be
used to hide from predators as well
tropical frogs another distant Dino
relative use a special type of infrared
pigment in their skin to hide from their
snaky counterparts who in turn use
infrared light like a night-vision
camera to track them in the dark side by
side the Frog with a special infrared
pigment and its skin effectively becomes
invisible to which predators now you see
me now you don’t just amazing the other
guy becomes a midnight snack
