Escape Attempt | National Geographic

I knew my captors would be back in just
a little while but I’ve got some options
now I’ve got to figure out what I need
to do right now I’m frantically working
trying to get this door open but there
was no way I was gonna open that door
no way
I hear the sound of helicopters outside
I’m thinking man I got to figure out
some way to try the flag these
helicopters so shine this little
stainless steel plate all I needed just
a glare one glare up in that pilot’s
eyes I’m not able to pull myself up or I
can even see if if I’m even catching any

I can’t even see the helicopter on all
I’m is just guesswork and it flies by
and I’m thinking well you know at least
I attempted I tried you have to be ready
for the next opportunity
later that afternoon I’m sitting there
and I can hear mumbling outside the door
and all of a sudden it’s like a pry bar
or a piece of metal is being shoved
through this little opening in the door
he’s working it around frantically
trying to pry this metal down and I’m
thinking okay who is this is somebody
that can help me or that somebody’s
gonna make it even worse
I made the decision I’m gonna go over
I’m going to see who’s out here and I’m
gonna see if whoever’s out here can help
me it appeared to be an old man standing
there and a couple of younger boys
beside him and I said can you open this
door and let me out open this door can
you take me to American soldiers can you
take me to Iraqi police when I finish
speaking I saw a look of fear on his
face I knew why he was backing me I knew
why he looked scared
because he knew what was gonna happen to
him if they drove up
