Behind the Scenes: Untamed | Untamed Americas

hi I’m Karen bass I’m the series
producer of the Americas series for
National Geographic
when we started out on the project the
task was to come up with the most
amazing wildlife stories and spectacles
from North South in Central America and
we knew that it would take us to some
pretty incredible places and this is one
of them I’m here at winter Sun one
normally the problems you face the
wildlife filmmaker is trying to find
your animals sometimes you know days or
weeks without even seeing what you’re
trying to build but here you’ll see
finding the animals is not the problem
at all the problem here is that just
beyond that hill is a cliff with a whole
Beach of sea lions below but to approach
it we’ve got to go through something
like half a million nesting seabirds
here and we don’t want to disturb the
birds or risk them leaving their chicks
or breaking the eggs on their nests we
had to find some sort of concealment and
it seems that the birds have never been
attacked by a eight-legged box before
what we’ve got to do is climb in this
box carrying all our equipment and you
basically have to shuffle along like a
kindness
that’s not
to actually move inch by inch by inch I
mean that commute is made like 40
minutes just forget to in here we want
to get quite close to them but it’s on
their nest feeding their chicks in that
sort of thing having this little mobile
landing on next is not comfortable and
very easy but it’s getting the job done
it’s performed very very well anything I
must say is that do look faintly
ridiculous
