Atlantic Territories Finalist | National Geographic Bee 2013

hi my name is Leo Diaz I’m the winner of
the Atlantic territories competition of
the National Geographic be a this is my
cool it’s called st. John school I was
funded on 1915 and right here we are in
Puerto Rico this is the area of gondola
and so it’s located in an urban area
right here we have two flags this one’s
though US flag this one’s del puerto
rico flag and it’s because in ninety
1898 there was a war between Spain and
United States to control puerto rico as
a territory which United States wants so
back then Puerto Rico became a territory
of the u.s. some attractions that we
have your Indiana no Puerto Rico our old
san juan we also have any more room
which is a spanish fortification that
was built to protect the engine from
invaders or people that will try to
invade the island we also have a junker
which is the national park of rainforest
in puerto rico and it’s the biggest one
in the Caribbean we also have la pagina
in the south which is a bioluminescent
bay in a town in a little town called
lajas we also have one of the best
beaches in the world we have most of
them in our in San Huambo we basically
have all around the island and we also
have major cities like fajardo my dog
weighs Padilla and others if I were to
go somewhere in the world and I had a
free ticket we will probably have to be
Spain because that’s where my ancestors
came from and I would like just like to
see the culture the traditions and how
life would be there also if I were to
substitute a world famous world leader
it will probably have to be Barack Obama
because he did to others what it’s
called the impossible
and he broke the chains because he was
the first african-american president in
the United States history you’ll be
probably wondering how I got all this
information in my brain well when I was
little about six years old I used to
look at atlases books because I really
got interested in geography hey I didn’t
like have a lot of school work so I
dedicated most of my time to learning
all that information now one weird
geography fact that I learned is that
before 1796 Tennessee was actually
called Franklin that’s pretty weird and
also one of my favorite geography fact
is the fact that in the north of Puerto
Rico we have the second deepest point in
the entire world which is the Opera Rico
Trench and the first one is dom mariana
trench which we have in the opposite if
I was in charge of the world for at
least one day the most important thing
that I will probably do is make world
peace because every time I see the news
local news international news anything
all I see is murders war and in the
world everyone’s a friend like
everyone’s a brother so there’s no
reason for violence like we should
respect each other everyone has values
and when I grow up I’m not sure I’m
really young so I really don’t know what
I’m gonna be but I’m one of the options
I’m between is engineer dr. and I’m
trying to find a job where you can apply
geography because that will probably be
fun for me but so far I really don’t
know what I’m going to be when I grow up
I’m just trying to find that one perfect
job where you can apply all this
information that i learned i wanted
thank National Geographic for doing a
competition like this
and I encourage other people to try this
this is not just a competition this is
also a one in a lifetime opportunity you
will probably win the state level every
year because it’s really hard and if
you’re a person who wants to be tested
in your knowledge about geography this
is the ultimate challenge so thanks for
watching
