with playing cards or magic there are
ways of influencing their decisions
where it feels like they made the choice
there’s also ways of retrofitting the
outcomes so it seems like you knew where
the decision was so it’s a win-win
either way whether they made the
decision on their own or whether you
navigated them to that choice whenever
I’m performing I like to give someone
the feeling that they’re in the driver’s
seat there’s a couple pieces on here if
I asked you out of these will you pick
up one of those for me not the one you
want I like that choice feels like it
was your own but somehow I gotta get to
that decision you pick the yellow one
now
why did that happen well it came from me
predicting the gambits the possible
choices that you might make and then
kind of navigating you down a flowchart
to the choice I wanted you to make but
now notice I’ve formed a line the coin
is the thing that’s closest to you it
seems like an obvious choice you want to
try and navigate away from it and then
on these last two objects right after I
asked you to pick one up I do it very
suspicious remove by switching those two
which implies to you that maybe I want
you to choose one of those two so
without even consciously realizing it
you made a decision you try to jump and
go to the one that you feel like you’re
not being influenced by the one that’s
your own choice but ironically I’ve
actually navigated you to that at the
same time giving you the impression that
all those choices were yours
