Amazon Adventure—Documenting Life in Ecuador’s Yasuní National Park | National Geographic

yes Unni and the Amazon in general
especially this area is one of the most
diverse areas on the planet and it’s
being threatened by
oil concession
you know this is really multifaceted
story we’re trying to tell all aspects
of this park and the issues going on
here in one big story so coming in as a
group five different photographers with
different specialties kind of focusing
on different aspects of the other area
go a little bit more in order to maybe
bring a little bit more attention to the
to the situation by by kind of having
this blitz approach so my role in it is
daytime animals I’ve been traveling
around by canoe and then I’ve been
checking around the forest and I say it
we’re somewhere out here following the
monkeys and I try to get species
pictures of all all ten species and
there’s all kinds of monkeys around
today ah the place on that monkey so
there’s more species of birds mostly
piece of mammals more species of
reptiles and amphibians in this one you
know ring first area here than in any
other similar sized area in the world so
it’s an incredibly special you know and
unique an important place so what we’re
doing is trying to obtain photographs of
the mammals and the only way you can do
that in the rainforest is to use cameras
because you’ll never see anything what
the hell is that as far as the animals
that live on the ground especially the
cats that are very secretive and don’t
want you to see them
you don’t let’s see if we got anything
so this is the way that we get the
pictures I mean what I hope to
contribute to this effort is is to to
get a glimpse into the small things the
principal tool that I use is a set up
that is a mimic of a microscope
basically it’s just scaled up
the most challenging thing about this
place is that there’s so much variety
you know that the decisions necessary to
make sure that we have representative
overall view very Cabo oh he doesn’t
bite me
our task was to come down here and
document the warranty culture and also
the effects that the oil companies have
had on the word on a culture
the war on Easter
they’re amazing they’re very unique you
know how they relate to each other how
they relate to outsiders you come down
here with maybe like an idea of what you
will find but then the reality is
different you know things are still done
the way they were done a long time ago
we like the enter cultures and spend in
a long period of time with the people
and get a sense of what their lifestyle
is like and we I think it’s a really
important story and one that needs to be
told the Amazon is the world’s lungs
there are certain places in the world
that we just
