pastor Don to rodeo preacher he travels
from rodeo to rodeo usually lead in the
opening prayer and spreading the word of
god the cowboys cowgirls and rodeo
enthusiasts how many weekends a year
would you say you’re you’re out
ministering at rodeos probably on
average here in the past it’s been about
12 to 15 okay I’d say weekends a year
about a third of the year you’re here
out if you’re not here who preaches just
me so you’re telling me that when you’re
not here the jerks just shuts down yeah
pastor Don can’t have it both ways and
serve the Lord effectively if he’s
shutting down the church for three
months out of the year to go out and
minister at rodeo events he can’t
possibly expect to keep a loyal
congregation is there anyone around here
that knows the ins and outs of this
place that I could talk to Jon Kerley is
the facilities manager for the saddle
club John really is truly in a cowboy
and he’s connected in so many ways with
the cowboy culture well look guys I’m
gonna go find Jon Kerley while rev kev

I are gonna get a tour of the only
building on the property hey John hey
miss BAM cab with the church hoppers Jon
Kerley good to meet you go for rice it’s
been a while well it’s just like falling
off bicycle but John I’ve been dying to
ask you a question all right what in the
world happened to your lip well I was
catching horses up to come to church
singing and one of them flung her head
hit me right in the mouth busted my lip
pretty good and you had to involve a
female oh yeah yeah this is the
clubhouse for the saddle club okay so we
just usually refer to it as the
clubhouse but is our meeting place where
when we have inclement weather and we
can’t be outdoors okay then we meet in
there pastor Don what do you use this
area for this area out here we kind of
fixed it up just as a little
meet-and-greet area you should do a lot
of rodeos and different things down here
with the youth and we’re doing
concessions this is our grilling area
where we’re bringing our grills in set
them up here looks like that grills seen
better days you yeah there’s a no grill
there I’m not sure who it belongs to but
it’s been there so long but
we don’t use that one well that’s got to
get old hauling in grills every time you
want to cook some food this isn’t much
of a gathering place there’s not even a
place to sit down tell me about your
role in the church here what’s your
responsibilities I’m on the ministry
team which is kind of like our outlines
guys and I’m kind of in charge of
facilities have you ever ever preached
I’ve done one sermon about how to
utilize the tools of riding bulls you
use your rope you glove your all’s and
and then I kind of give a spin on that
to hell you know being a Christian you
got to utilize it your church your
pastor your Bible you know the better
tools you got the better work it it
sounds like it’d make a good preacher
last redonk could probably do a lot more
and he had somebody that could preach if
they needed to and you know I brought it
up to dawn one time but he said no that
was not my goal not my thing that’s not
really what i needed to do
