how much did they first paid you to give
up my nutrients
when we going to stop and come back into
what makes you happy
[Music]
I see guys who work at the same company
their entire life not exactly like you
clock in a clock out they never have a
moment
[Music]
you have an opportunity
[Music]
to rebirth
starting at the bottom on emily is for
every architect everybody starts at the
bottom and there is no advantage to
starting 10 years ago as folk starting
to do in fact it’s better today than
words
you just got to put your toe in the
water him if you’re going to wait till
you know everything you’ll never do
anything
a medium you have to work so hard to get
you know get your stuff heard or seen
and so if you know absolutely loved it
you will burn yourself out
[Music]
if you want a great jump in the quality
of your life an extraordinary jump in
the quality of your life you got to set
yourself up to win you get it set stuff
up with a process that allows you to
consistently grow consistently enjoy
your life and consistently produce the
results that you really out you know you
can’t let anyone else tell you who you
are and how good you are based on
persistence alone it will give you a job
you have to be able to rise from the
failures is what makes a successful
person says everybody’s going to have
mishaps that our fall down you know you
can plug that set so they don’t get it
going to find their voice make it
whatever you wanna call
one of the things that really helps me
have the courage to change was that I
realized that I’m not alone
[Music]
[Applause]
no I see well I got check some more i’m
in doing more research will go ahead
just keep going go swimming you gotta
get with
well you got to have that dream if other
people cause everything did I have a
little bit of a breeze
when you start something new it’s not
you
so stick with it find our way through
find out an answer it works folks this
business work
[Music]
you answered the call was coming at us
we’ve got to figure out how to navigate
this and how to succeed in a lot of
people just give up it is through the
disaster through the adversity that our
strength is developed if everybody went
the way you wanted it to go you wouldn’t
have anything to exercise mats it’s a
gymnasium of life where you get the
workout the resistance you find out
things about yourself that you didn’t
know I’m stronger than I thought I was
I’m tougher than what I thought it was a
whole resilience that I thought it would
change happens in a moment a
breakthrough happens in a moment what is
the breakthrough a breakthrough is that
moment in time we’re suddenly the
impossible becomes possible not just
intellectually but you do something
about it
you know people all the time will think
it takes 10 years or cooking 20 years to
make a change I always praying BF it
took you a minute the minute you finally
found I quit or if / / begin or I love
you or I do change happens in a moment
the most of them have to go through a
process to get to that moment
everything in our life changes the
moment we make a decision
I mean a real decision the decision is
when you cut off any other possibility
you commit to something with everything
you’ve got and you take action
you
don’t ever let somebody else kill you
what you can do
when somebody else is saying something
can’t be done which you got to hear them
saying as they can’t do it
our dispute
to die
and on live life
[Music]
I’m
the time to do so great but the key is
you’ve got to be doing something that
you’re truly passionate about it cannot
be I just want to be
it can’t be done dr. that the front
w-what
[Music]
baby steps counter as long as you’re
going forward and one day you add all
those baby steps up then you might be
surprised at where you can get you the
cavalry ain’t coming you got to do this
yourself ain’t no backup
the cavalry ain’t coming
you got to do this yourself
the cavalry ain’t coming
how exactly are you going to navigate
these new realities put another way what
are you going to do no one is supposed
to live in here no one is supposed to
just been extended periods of time in
here
this is a public restroom this is not a
living space but were not for this piece
there were some season when it has no
place else to go I mean a lot of
decisions a lot of hard decisions were
made right here about what are you going
to do with your life where are you going
to go how are you going to give it up
you gotta have a plan everybody’s got a
dream everybody’s got a goal what’s the
plan and your plan is got to have
something I call the c5 complex your
plan is got to be clear and concise
compelling consisted and committing
you’ve got to have a plan
when you try to do something that you
are truly tested about there is no plan
three
[Music]
and what a time now for us to take this
dream and not let it die take this dream
and give it life take this dream and
breathe into it your own personal spirit
until finally it becomes the flame that
burns around the whole world is energy
happen yes I want to cheer me back to my
behalf
[Music]
everyone in this room in the person of
influence some of you don’t look at it
that way some of you do some of your
identity or a leader but how many
consider yourself to be a leader
something what does the leader do what
makes you a leader this results how do
they do it they maximize resources and
the greatest leaders in the world have
always found a way to maximize better
than anyone else
[Music]
and if they look at Richard Branson he
was hungry today as when he was 16 years
old
[Music]
we’re getting a trip coming up this idea
called budget hungary isn’t perfect
energy
[Music]
and we all got out the question what
makes people fail who here in this room
has ever failed which he knew what you
really want like a goal agreement by
damn damn woken in 1974 has 78 towards
they all stay in that year cell bill
over to make you tell me more resources
here’s the one resource give them with
cash business or people goodies no one’s
going to want this anywhere else where’s
walmart today ladies and gentlemen how
many poor girl there it’s the dominant
player on the face of the earth it ain’t
got eleven thousand four and half a
trillion and fail didn’t take action got
distracted here come on what else didn’t
have the right people right come on out
didn’t have the money didn’t have the
capital didn’t have the technology
didn’t have the contact with that making
excuses which all this
[Music]
I wanna look at how great answers I
don’t look for the excuses I look for
what can be done
we’re living in a time where people
don’t know what to think next when
economy around the world has been
inflated not with dollars or money we
don’t even print it anymore we can’t
afford you we’ve got 120 the computers
you know your worst experience of life
can become your best if you decide to
use it
ask this question is how many of you’ve
ever failed not one hand with up I said
I know you’re out there I can hear you
breathing as to how many failed and now
every raised their hand and I said when
you failed why’d you fail and I heard
some of the same things I heard here
what were the things people said didn’t
have enough time didn’t ever kappa
didn’t have the right technology did
another like contacts but i didn’t have
the right people didn’t have all these
things and then the voice in the
darkness comes very dark room heard this
voice say when you told me all the
reasons why you failed you told me
resources you were lacking courage is a
resource right time of the report money
of the reforms people are resourced
technologies re foot and here’s the
challenge
resources remember the real problem we
all know it if you look around think
about you get the resources if you’re
resourceful
resources are not the challenges
resourcefulness so what is it we’re
really missing in some form of human
emotion that we have learned to value
less and less than a technologically
driven society see if you’re creative
enough then you get the answer yes or no
dance it up and creativity is a resource
if you’re committed enough can you get
the capital yes or no and you care
deeply enough for other people when you
get people to help you yes or no are the
answers there if you’re resourceful
enough yes or no and in fact whenever
you see people in businesses fail it
will always tell you they were missing
resources when they really just weren’t
resourcefulness
if I literally spent four years of my
life interview these people they have
none to be my interviewer from the lucky
sperm Club they all built it from
scratch
these people just took notes you too
they knew they could get the resources
if they resort
so what are the ultimate resources
[Music]
creativity joy love determination what
ability with those things there’s
nothing we can get
don’t tell me you don’t have the
resource
if you don’t this picture of low-energy
get pictures so freakin smart in your
own way
turn your heads you’re dead it’s the
heartwood you’ll find the breakthrough
[Music]
there is no limit the only limit to our
impact is our creativity and caring if
you’re clear enough and you’re creative
enough there is no limit but most of us
allow our mind to get in the way we get
caught up but the point is its resources
[Music]
but if you do what no one else does you
have a gigantic advantage
stop thinking about the score of the
game and focus on one thing you can
control how much you give every moment
you’re on that court
he said they’re going to be days when
you win and when you lose but the only
days you’re going to know when you’re
lose are going to be by your measurement
of yourself
if you every single moment you’re on
that course you’re engaged at level 10
or above them such a thing were to exist
and you gave every outfit yourself every
minute on the court then it doesn’t
matter what thus far as you want
could you became more and you gain more
and in life
we don’t get to keep anything except
what we did because that’s what it
should become something different
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
ever tried ever failed no matter try
again fail again fail better
I
I had so many dream of where I wanted to
go who I wanted to be and what I wanted
to do you have your own story to tell
theatre companies i wanted to start with
classmate movies i wanted to be in
directors i wanted to work with stories
I needed to tell
[Music]
you
attack the lifestyle you with socks on a
toothbrush into my backpack and I slept
on couch after couch after couch after
couch at friend’s apartment in New York
until I wore out their rent pangs
Maxwell
I didn’t want a day job I was an actor I
was a writer I had to get a day job
I dusted piano piano store on the street
for five months
I worked on the property of a
Shakespeare dollar for a year plan weeds
and removing visa I went on unemployment
once but for not for long would handle
the guilt eventually I was able to pay
rent for a spot on the floor of an
apartment on the inside but my roommate
had a breakdown and disappear
I helped hang paintings at gallery
paintings that inspire inspire you to
think I could do that
and then finally after two years job and
couch through I got a job
the application process
as a data enter ER at a place called
professional examination services and I
stayed for six years six year from the
age of 23 to 29 well they loved me there
I was funny I smoked in the loading
docks with the guys from the mailroom
and shared how old her we all were I
called him sick almost every Friday
because I was that late the night before
I hated that job and I clung to that job
because of that jobs I could afford my
own Utley
my dream of running a theater company
with my friend and fellow Bennington
graduate Ian Bell had ducked
I had only the one window
I myself do not look out the window it
was it was quite high no Activision
when I was 29 I told myself the next
acting job i get no matter what it can i
will now on for better or worse be worse
[Music]
but something good happened I got a
low-paying theater job in a play called
imperfect love which led to a film
called 13 moons with the same writer
which led to other roles he’s led to
other roles and I’ve worked as an actor
ever since I didn’t know that would
happen at 29 walking away from data
processing I was terrified
ten years in a place without you six
years at a job don’t stop him maybe I
was afraid of change are you
but this made me very hungry literally
I couldn’t be lazy
I couldn’t be and there were 29 in a
very long last I was in the company of
the actors and writers and directors I
thought at that first year that first
day after school I was I am by their
side
raised the rest of your life
need you don’t search for defining
moment because they will never help
the moment that defined you have already
happened and they will already happen
again
goes quickly since we bring each other
along with you
you you just get a bit derailed but soon
something starts to happen trust me the
rhythm sets then just try not to wait
until like me you’re 29 before you find
it and if you are that’s fine too some
of us never find it
but you will
I promise you
you are already here you’ll find your
rhythm or either one you have already
found don’t wait until they tell you you
are ready
get in there
day
the world might say you are not allowed
to yet I waited a long time out in the
world before I gave myself permission to
fail
clean
don’t even bother at
don’t bother telling the world you are
ready
shall we do it
what is definitely
you
ever tried ever failed
no matter try again
well again
felt better
we burn very brightly please don’t ever
stop the world is your treat everyone
kindly and light up the night
maybe I was afraid of change are you
you
