HUSTLE Motivation – #OneRule

if you want to know how people like Mark
Cuban Dame – Jada pinkett-smith Ted
Turner and others hustle
then this video is for you hustle hustle
hustle hustle
what’s that believe nation it’s Evan my
one word is believe and I believe in you
I believe you have an amazing gift
inside you that I want to see explode
out onto the world now I started the one
rule series to try to combine the rules
that happen over and over and over again
in my top ten series the ones that keep
repeating themselves and smoosh them
into one video and so today we’re gonna
learn how to hustle enjoy
[Music]
some people just they get on the show
and they think you know I don’t have to
work anymore I don’t have to work as
hard or if I get an investor it’ll be
easier and it never works that way or
they just they stop paying attention to
detail yeah right I’ve had a couple
companies where it’s like all right you
know I’ll hire people to do all the work
it’s your company it’s your baby you’ve
got to do you you know if you’re not
gonna do the work who is and I’ve always
felt you know in terms of leadership
that my job is to put everybody around
me in a position to succeed and if I’m
walking around the arena here I’m
picking up junk on the ground I’m you
know helping customers I’m trying to you
know convey to everybody that there’s
not a job that you would do that I
wouldn’t do myself and a lot of
entrepreneurs that fail they lose they
lose track of that they think you know
I’m the boss I mean I had a job one time
and I was a horrible employee where you
know the the president the company’s
spent more time telling me how I should
dress then trying to help me close sales
yeah you know so you’ve got to do the
work and that’s key was there some
pivotal moment for you in your life
where you just really got it and and
something happened a fire ignited inside
you that made it so that you had all the
moving parts to make this amazing career
unfold I think the death of my mother
probably got me really focused and I
understood that there wasn’t gonna be
anyone there to take care of me had to
take care of myself and just out of
respect for her life and all the things
she did to make me a better person I had
to apply all those things so you know at
like 17 my mother died when I was 16 and
17 you know I was running the streets so
heavy and it was getting so critical
then I put myself in boarding school you
know I figured out how to get a
scholarship and because of the ability
that my mother gave me to articulate
what’s on my mind to read to write you
know cannot be afraid and also I was you
know boxing so I got went to the boys
club and they were given our scholarship
for you know you took a test I passed
the test and you know I made it and I I
was just always able to put myself in a
better place I never let anybody else
control my destiny my mom’s taught me
to make things happen on my own not to
depend on anybody and if I have an
opinion to speak on it how did you get
an agent talk about some name dropp’d
right so I had a friend that at the time
was good friends with Keenan Ivory
Wayans okay and I got to meet Kenan and
we became very good friends I ended up
doing low down dirty shame with oh sure
yeah but I didn’t have an agent as
peaches yeah I did and I was like you
know how am i I was just going through
you know the the list of agencies and I
was like I got to get an agent and so I
literally called this one agent her name
was Nancy Rainford and I said I’m a
really good friend of Keenen Ivory
Wayans but he told me to call you
specifically small agency on Melrose
but she had me she had Michael Rapaport
at the time oh yeah she had Michael
Rapaport at the time so I said he told
me to call you specifically uh-huh you
know so I’m running this whole game and
she was like really she was like well
why don’t you come in and see me so I
went in to see her
you know and I put on the jazz hands she
was like you know what I like you I’m
gonna represent you and I’m gonna tell
you she was she was an awesome agent she
was an awesome agent she said she had
Michael Rapaport and I and she started
my career she’s heard of my career and
then she eventually got out of the
business but she was the one that
started my whole career and when I got
in the door because the key today that
attitude dude I was like he told me you
specific that’s good that’s actually
that’s actually something
look if there’s not one thing Baltimore
taught me it definitely taught me how to
hustle you know people talk about how
you need a vacation or something I don’t
have a km from what and I love my life I
feel I’m healthy thank God and you know
I have these incredible directors that
that are interested in working with me
and I’m gonna jump at that as long as
there’s enough time to prep and I feel
like I can add to it you know yeah yeah
for sure has it changed in terms I guess
there’s a point where you don’t have to
chase quite as hard and you know it
depends on the project I still say I
wrote an email to a director about six
months ago about a project that I just
felt so connected to and never got a
response that’s so surprising
yeah but you know you never you know
it’s yeah you just think professional
courtesy would be enough to oh I’m not
in this business every time I think
about this message I think about Jerry
Seinfeld and one of my favorite bits of
advice from Jerry Seinfeld is you need
to find the thing that most people
consider torture
it’s the torture that you can endure
where when people look at your schedule
they would see it as torturous look at
what I do look what I do on YouTube so
many people write in they tweet me the
email me asking how do you do so many
videos I’m having a hard time doing one
video a week it’s torture if you were to
look at my schedule it would be torture
making three videos at least a day going
to the YouTube channel on top of
responding to all the comments that come
in we get hundreds of comments every day
that we respond to on top of keeping
track of all the requests right for the
top ten series we have over 2,500
requests just and we keep track of it
we keep note and we see how many people
voted for different people and then we
start making those videos on top of come
up with new series ideas so we can test
out it’d be so easy just to keep with
the same formula but it’s not enough
it’s got to get better we’ve got to grow
we’ve got to improve it’s torture you
would look at our schedule and say
there’s no way
I want to do that much work but it’s why
I’ve gotten better
it’s why I went from the worst of my
agency to the best because while they
couldn’t do everybody else was having
trouble doing one video a week I was
doing multiple videos a day
it’s that hustle and it’s not to say
that I’m great anybody can accomplish it
you just have to find the thing that you
can do that would look like torture to
other people my radio motion you know
other than that listen this is what
again we all 300,000 yeah you know how
to do yeah you know that’s really what
it is
I agree you know I just think that it’s
way to get that money without giving up
ownership 300,000 8 no life-changing
money in this game up thanks you can’t
buy a house and I like to 300,000 um you
know okay for sure
you should know where the helicopter
every 19 ami and he is gonna be real in
300,000 so like
it’s about being what type of hustler
you are you know I’m saying how you put
it all together you know I’m saying if
you want to be an owner but she wants to
Records my radio you got to find out how
to do that
you got me if it’s put up your own money
if it’s figure out where else to get the
money from you got to figure out how to
do it or you got to go ahead and just
take a situation that makes sense to you
I mean partially you know I’m selling
minded people I’m selling my product to
people I sell it in format so I sell it
to the platform set amount of people
that’s what my is the middleman how
early in life did you you’re relentless
ambition begin did this happen when you
were very young you alluded to the fact
that you sold papers at age six or
something well I don’t know oh it’s just
all I don’t really feel like I’m that
ambitious oh come on I’d hate to follow
you around for a week yeah well I just
beat your card but I know a lot of
people would work hard my father worked
hard and set an example for me and and I
know a lot of people that work hard what
does that mean working you know what is
your day like hardest you know hustle
all day long you know you talk about
hustlers Pete grows on the baseball
field I try and do that all day long
and that’s what I think we need to do
here in America I mean the people
working in the American automobile
industry we got out hustle the Japanese
we’ve got to get that old roll up our
sleeves and get back to work then we’ll
get this country out of trouble we can
do anything better than anybody else in
the world that’s your life there’s
nobody we got a real wake that that’s
spirit that’s what I try and do with the
Atlanta Braves is get everybody hustling
because it’s it’s it’s such a good
example of the people that are watching
the program you wanna I I worked for
Miss Hughes for about eight months and I
got an a weekend gig in New York so I
would do weekdays at WOL in Washington
and drive up on Fridays after my shift
which would end at 7 o’clock and I’d be
on all weekend long over in Queens
that’s where the radio station was
located and then I would drive back to
DC and I would never even stop at my
parents house never had time for friends
because everybody was kind of not
understanding my dream and kind of
laughing at me or something or trying to
you know my friends were like real
immature and stupid and wanting to party
and hang out
I’m on a path and my parents were very
you know who do you want something to
eat
what is this crazy thing you’re doing
called radio I would sleep in my Subaru
they gave me a super room for college
graduation and I I would sleep in my car
at every rest stop between New York and
and Washington DC to block out the noise
of people tell you you can’t do it right
I would literally be I’d have a blanket
an alarm clock and a quilt and I would
take a bird bath in the bathroom might
be woken up by the man sweeping next to
my Subaru looking at me cuz I’m like the
crazy you know girl in the and I had a
baby shade without a baby pull the baby
shade down you know and that was my life
for about two months I was going back
and forth a lot of times but the hustle
always do what a meeting peaceful
because I made sandwiches when we came
up and we have time to play games
because that love swaps down the roof
and shoot two to threes I don’t know how
to play with mirrors I don’t know how to
ask and answer the frivolous questions
but I respect you being the hustler
because you sitting here but you do you
feel like growing up in projects gave
you a certain edge as an entrepreneur
others don’t have yeah yeah especially
in Silicon Valley I feel like folks just
don’t have as much hustle as I kind of
was raised with you know when I moved
out there for the first time it just
felt like everything was moving waste
lower right and I think you know the way
that I articulated once I got the
Business School someone told me this
that really stuck with me for a long
time he said Tristan while a lot of your
classmates are willing to ask why five
times you’re always willing to ask it
six times
right and that hustle was really kind of
ingrained in me from the very beginning
so now in Silicon Valley like literally
everything just moves way slower and I
don’t know it
but I think it was an important part of
like Who I am now as an entrepreneur for
