How to Deal With Bad Habits

peace infinite waters diving deep once
again how to deal with bad habits many
of us we have them it may be late night
parties arguing with someone do you
always have to be the person that wins
drinking alcohol smoking cigarettes go
into bed at 5:00 in the morning
what help me along my journey is to see
that it’s not about breaking bad habits
it’s about forming new ones a lot of the
times many of us have to see that it’s a
lifestyle
that has to be changed habits emanates
from the Latin word habit re as a
wordsmith I love words so habit habitats
can you see the correlation it’s all
about the way we live and many of us it
is our lifestyles that are forming our
habits not all habits are bad because
they may serve a purpose therefore we
have to ask ourselves how is this habit
serving me is it making me become the
greatest version of myself or is it
keeping me in a repetitive pattern
because many bad habits they keep us in
a behavior which in the end becomes
detrimental to our own health the
science of it
is that when we do things we love we
produce this neurochemical called
dopamine
and what happens is the more we keep
doing it we get a positive reinforcement
therefore we get over stimulation of the
chemical dopamine so even if we are
doing something which is not helping us
we keep getting the dopamine it just
keeps coming so in the end it feels good
just like the old song I know this is
bad but it feels so good along my
journey when I was transitioning to a
more plant-based diet it was tough
because I had an addiction a chemical
addiction to the foods I was eating so
every day now I am waking up with a
spoon of raw chia seeds and this is
packed full of protein it is fantastic I
love this stuff in fact you can even
play the drums with this stuff and the
shakers have a little band going on but
in letting go of junk food we have to
see that it takes the radical action
thinking is not enough we have to begin
loving ourselves a hundred percent
psychiatrist dr. Norman Doidge talked
about neuroplasticity in the book the
brain that changes itself and he talked
of how our brain changes based on our
mental experience now this is powerful
because this goes into how we can
actually rewire our brain we can create
a new circuitry within our brain but it
all takes allowing
more so even you have neuroscientist
saying that a new neuro pathway can be
created within 30 to 60 days and this
can break a bad habit to form a new one
however all of this takes radical action
we have to ask ourselves are we in the
right environment we have to ask
ourselves are we loving ourselves enough
I always say love yourself a hundred
percent many of us the words we tell
ourselves is the reality we create so
when we talk of bad habits many people
for instance they know what they are
doing is not helping them but they still
do it to change a habit a bad habit you
have to come from a place of self-love
not a place of denial that is what we
call cognitive dissonance psychologists
Festinger talked of them this is where
for instance you have a smoker smoking
cigarettes and they can see on the label
this causes cancer but they will say it
feels good it’s not going to happen to
me that’s how I was a long time ago when
I was not eating a healthy diet over a
decade ago I said well my grandma she
lived to be over 90 years old and she
ate me but in the back of my mind I knew
that there was a better way so I had two
conflicting belief systems so it’s all
about developing this transparency
within ourselves it’s all about
also not being afraid to move out of our
comfort zone life begins at the end of
our comfort zone a lot of us we have
built a whole lifestyle around our
habits many of us we wake up we go to
work this is all we know I was stuck in
a job which it wasn’t resonating with me
so I had to change my lifestyle base
your life around what you want to do
forever that is my philosophy and it’s
helped me because what I make videos
about this is what I do as a
psychologist it helps me keep up to date
so a lot of the times we have to ask
ourselves how are these habits serving
us we have to become versatile we have
to see that it’s all about becoming
stronger real strength is not how much
you can carry or lift it’s how much you
can let go off so letting go off
whatever is no longer serving us starts
with changing our belief system it’s all
bs belief systems and I can’t repeat
that enough that is also a habit I also
have a habit of making videos but I love
this new habit because it is not only
serving me it is benefiting people
worldwide so we all have to ask
ourselves are we doing what we love
because the more you move into your
heart space the more you move into your
natural habitat and that forms a new
habit we continue with habits which do
not serve us because we cannot feel what
doing the body is not only the
unconscious mind but the body is a
vehicle that takes us from A to B all
our emotions are stored within the body
sometimes you ask people how are you and
they say I’m fine but their body says
otherwise because their hands are tight
they’re grimacing making all kinds of
facial expressions so we have to begin
moving into our body by physical
activity I love yoga whether it’s
walking swimming dancing once you begin
to feel more you begin breaking this
ritual and forming a ritual which is
more in alignment to your true purpose
many of us we say on our journey Yolo
you only live once and what happens to
many of us if we are living our life
with the philosophy that it doesn’t
matter nothing matters anymore we also
move into a habit because every area of
our life is connected to every other
area of our life so we have to be very
careful in what we believe because that
governs our whole existence and seeing
everything of sacred being thankful all
of this changes our lifestyle and it’s
not about breaking a bad habit it’s
about forming a new lifestyle
the secret of breaking bad habits is to
move into our bodies a hundred percent I
always tell my clients has account
like that total body awareness is the
secret to unlocking our true potential
many of us on the planet we have become
desensitized as we become more sensitive
as we move into our emotions we begin to
free ourselves we do this by breathing
deep from our diaphragm
inhaling holding then exhaling I do four
in four hold and then exhale four four
four four four
that beautiful synchronicity a lot of
the times many of us we are shallow
breathing from our chest
some people say even breathing from the
base of the spine is ideal because we
are drawing right deep and it is
relaxing a whole core thus clearing our
mind in essence helping us to break a
pattern which is no longer serving us as
we begin to feel our body more in
essence we can feel what direction our
heart is wanting to go in that’s it
right there
follow your heart because it will lead
you to where you need to be it’s
beautiful right now I’m just gonna make
a song with this with some chia seeds
but continue loving yourself a hundred
percent all the power lies within
yourself to change a bad habit into and
you habit it’s about letting off
resistance because resistance makes
stronger that’s why when you tell a
person stop doing that they continue
doing it we have to be honest with
ourselves to say how is this
in me we are here enjoying ourselves
infinite waters diving deep once again stay well stay healthy
