Essena O’neill | Why Quitting Social Media is a Good Idea?

again so I don’t usually make videos at
night right I got a lot of questions
recently about social media right a lot
of people have been writing to me about
a scenar O’Neil and they’re saying do
you think it’s a good idea to quit
social media altogether I was gonna do
right I didn’t know who she was and then
I looked at some of her videos I was
blown away and I always say it’s
wonderful when you have people living
their truth right because she’s gonna
inspire so many people all around just
to be authentic right she was talking
about how she used to take a hundred
different shots just to get the perfect
picture for her Instagram and I agree
because there’s so much pressure and
then I heard her say okay she tunes into
infinite waters can I get a hello there
I’m breathing that good-ass prana for
you as Sina right I always have realized
one little thing about social media and
that is social media is very competitive
and because of that you have to really
just focus on the message you have when
I first started making videos it was all
about just like you were Sina the likes
the views and that can really do your
head in so about 2014 I decided there’s
no need for me to check how many views
or video gets there’s no need for me to
check how many likes a video gets and
it’s made my whole life a whole lot
easier right
look you spoke about how people always
want to make their life perfect and I
agree hundred percent because it is so
true when it comes to social media
nobody wants to feel like their life is
going terror
right and my life’s not perfect I feel
the greatest thing anybody could do is
just to be as vulnerable as possible put
your hand up if you want to do that
I thought no right you see everybody
wants to have a massive smile and say
life is fantastic why they got an
alligator biting their hand off right
life isn’t perfect it’s not full of
perfect snaps and shots right life is
very rough and rugged
that’s why what’s helped me along my
journey is really not getting stuck on
the masterpiece or wiping the trophy not
getting stuck on your past achievements
that’s why for me I only focus on
creation some people say oh that was a
great video I say which one can I get a
hello there I’m on to the next one right
you got to ask yourself why are you
doing this because social media for me
has been an amazing experience for
connecting with amazing crazy deep
divers and the cat down the road right
but at the same time it can become a
nightmare if you use social media for
social approval it’s probably the worst
place for social approval and I always
say don’t feel that the views you have
the likes you have is a validation of
who you are
right because that doesn’t mean anything
I don’t care about that the only thing I
care about is just sharing with amazing
people every single day having fun most
of all breathing in that good ass
