this is what we’re using today in the
21st century we’re addicted to it these
devices and Conflict Minerals there’s
been a bloody war going on in the Congo
for such a long time now and it’s
actually the bloodiest conflict since
World War two and it’s caused over these
minerals which are found in the Congo
which is in central Africa so how does
this affect us here in the West this
mineral in particular is called Colton
is found in nearly every computer mobile
phone device on the planet and eighty
percent of this mineral is found in the
Congo and this war which has really had
women being raped children’s limbs and
arms being cut off just utter
devastation of the place is being caused
over these minerals so for me when I
came to the realization recently that
gosh while we’re enjoying one of these
computers all of these gadgets and
gizmos at the same time there’s a
conflict which is raging and is still
going on because these corporations they
want to make money they want to make
profit this is the ugly paradox of the
21st century we say these these
technologies are elegant but at the same
time they are being brought to us
through death through savage Wars and
through people who are really being
their lives are being taken before their
time and in the Congo there’s been so
much problems going on there this is a
really big problem this is something
which I just really came across and it
just made me think to say wow this is
what we call the domino effect the
butterfly effect as well because
whatever is happening there is also
happening here and
it’s just amazing how everything is
connected everything is this whole great
chain of events and for me I’m just
looking at it like this the West we have
so many of us we are so addicted to
these this technology these smartphones
these computers I’m guilty as well at
the same time I’m just realizing we
don’t even question where does it come
from and what prices they come from and
it’s just amazing but the more and why
I’m just realizing i’m just saying that
this is something which i have to really
look at because this is something which
i feel this is humanity’s problem again
a lot of us we use things and we don’t
even know where it came from we don’t
even we’re not even interested say okay
you’re using your nice laptop and people
on the other side of the world are dying
and in the Congo is it such a rich
country the same what happens Africa

been so many things have happened and
this is all throughout history you’ve
had King Leopold of Belgium who went
there and if you even do the research on
him he really was a terrible terrible
tyrant who really plundered the Congo
and when they got their independence in
the 1960s there’s been also been a whole
scramble for africa from the berlin
conference in eighteen eighty four to 80
and 85 because they’re never used to be
names of african countries all of these
names are not really their real names
this was when european powers wanted to
go over Africa to africa and really
conquer it this is just the fact of the
matter and this is the dole domino
effect is happening right now because

moment and really it’s affecting all of
us because the technology our
consumption here in this in the West is
so high that the war is going to
continue if enough people don’t do
