My Love Affair with New York City

what a lot of people don’t know is when
I first came to America on Lufthansa
when I left Germany came to the States
the first city I landed it was New York
City and I’m in New York right now and i
remember when i got into the financial
industry at 21 years old i told myself
when i make my first hundred thousand
dollars I want to go to New York and
stay right in manhattan in front of the
ball New Year’s Eve to watch the ball
drop and I wanted to go to Saks Fifth
I’ll never forget i wanted to go to Saks
Fifth Avenue spent three four five
thousand dollars on clothes and I did
that and I’ll never forget it it was
2004 okay came here with a couple of
friends who was the first restaurant I
ever went to where we said let’s go to
restaurant but we’re not looking at the
items on the menu and the menu comes out
with no prices on there you know what
happens when there’s no prices on there
it’s mean to my buddies three of us and
a bill finally shows up the bill is
seven hundred and forty-eight dollars my
friend says I got the bill before
looking at the price i got i’ll take
care of it and he takes the bill he
hasn’t opened it up yet he opens it up
and he’s got the strange look on his
face saying I should’ve never said I got
it and I said why are you looking like
that you look kinda strange he says well
you know I said let me look at the bill
we look at the glasses 740 and I said
listen you got it you’re right it’s all
yours we ended up feeling bad for our
friend and we split it but look here’s
the point the point is very simple I
think sometimes we don’t have a carrot
and what I mean by carrot is carrot for
me was I wanted to come to New York on
New Year’s Eve watch the ball drop and
come to this crazy City or badness is
going on and
go shopping and go buy some nice clothes
and nice suits and nice ties and enjoy
myself I don’t come from a wealthy
family I wanted to have some nice
clothes and then eventually from there
the carrot kept getting bigger and
bigger and bigger and bigger whatever
that carrot may be one carrot may be
going to courtside Laker games one
carrot may be going to Europe one carrot
maybe you know buying an S six hundred
or a harley or Porsche or you know
Ferrari or whatever that thing maybe but
it’s very very important way to keep
adding the carrots and now yours later
that was in 2004 fast over to 12 years
later I’ve been all over the world and
now we run a financial marketing
organization value had nearly a hundred
million dollars and if you would have
told me this in 04 that this was going
to happen one day to an average kid like
myself who grew up on welfare with
broken family from Iran refugee who was
called the pho fresh off the boat some
color 25 fresh off the boat now running
a business I don’t know but when I look
around you and I look at all these
things I just think about one thing
capitalism is in the air look around
everything is capitalism here every
single thing around you is capitalism
somehow someway there’s money to be made
you just got to make sure you got your
next carrot set up that motivates you in
virus you up to wake up early in the
morning go to sleep late at night
focused hungry to have your dreams
become a reality man I’m telling you
it’s worth it but you got to make that
decision to do it anyways take everybody
bye-bye from the Big Apple Mario said
goodbye everybody everybody Holly give
us some love say goodbye Polly do it to it baby take every 10 x
