we are back to episode number three of
pbd real talk yeah my friend to your
Mary your aguilar Mary oh let’s get
right into it with your question let’s
do it Joseph Hemingway asks Patrick what
is your favorite quote and why what is
my favorite quote and why I would say my
favorite quote is probably history will
be kind to me for I intend to write it
by Winston Churchill because I firmly
believe a lot of what can happen in the
future in your life you can predict it
the challenges most people are not very
crystal clear of what they want their
lives to look like but if you’re clear
the likelihood of you getting what you
want when you’re clear is very very high
that be my favorite quote when you walk
into the office is the first quote right
right it’s the first quote on the wall
when you walk into the office Joseph
also said give him the shirt but we have
to pick the top quite a shirt by the
question we’ll see simple course give me
a better question next time we have
Marcos Senna asks Patrick if you could
share only one big lesson that life
taught you what would it be one big
lesson that life taught me I don’t know
if I can say one big lesson I will tell
you one thing though yesterday I did a
podcast with this guy from Rio yup very
impressive extremely impressive he’s
probably watching right now what’s his
name Ron Ron really liked the podcasts
the questions he asked me I will tell
you one of the biggest lessons in life
that I think it’s important for
everybody to pick up is to know that
life is not black and white I think a
lot of times too many logical people go
through life looking at every single
thing as black and what I’m explained to
what I mean by this so for instance if
we look at the stereotype or you know
what we hear growing up hey you know if
a Christian marries a Christian and they
don’t have sex until they get married
they’re gonna be able to be married for
the rest of their lives I saw so many
people that were Christians never had
sex had their virginity lost to the
person they married after they got
married they got a divorce three years
later they absolutely can’t stand each
other and then there’s the other part
that says you never marry a person that
you meet at a nightclub
you get drunk there’s a one I sent and
he gave me that’s never gonna work yet
and I’ve met stories of people in their
70s in Hawaii that would tell me here’s
how we met we met out of
and we hooked up that night two years
later we got married we have four kids
we’re very happy there is no black and
white in life life is filled with many
contradictions now having said that
because one day my kids are gonna watch
this and gonna say dad one day in a
video you said that you know if I marry
the girl that I met at a nightclub tcode
billion Center if you’re watching this
okay even though life is not
black-and-white my life is filled with
many contradictions everything you ever
do in your life
you’re gonna do it based on the highest
odds in your favor if you’re gonna bet
on anything figure out a way to bid on
things that the odds are and your
chances okay
yes there are exceptions to the rule yes
there are a lot of things like that but
you’ve got to be able to understand that
life will be filled with many
contradictions if you cannot handle
contradictions and realize our life is
mainly in the gray area you’re gonna be
disappointed many times in your life so
that B might not be my answer to that
question
Patrick Lyons asks if you were the
president of the u.s. what would your
priorities be that can make history to
remember what would my priorities be yes
what does that mean like what would I be
doing first to make to make a maybe what
would you do that would be remembered
throughout history well Patrick’s got a
great first name so let’s let’s address
that question right there Patrick Lyons
if I were president today what would I
do okay so look bring it back bring it
back you know how they say this is my
home land okay homeland security home
land first wart home this is my home
perfect now watch this you deleted your
household your home what are the most
important things you’ve got to bring to
the people that live in your home land
what are they similar way on how a
country must be viewed when I say viewed
here’s what I mean by what does a what
does a spouse on what your kids want
from you safety okay
security and they want solid economics
so there is food there is a place to
live there’s a
but there is some fun so I can enjoy
myself living in this home but I’m
looking for safety and I’m looking for
economical a place to live at and then
simple standards and rules that I live
in this house hey you can’t smoke weed
in the house you can you have a girl in
your room the door needs to be open
whatever those things are these are
rules and regulations okay now that’s
how you want to run your home
then there’s allowances do I need to get
a job what is my compensation plan what
do I do that my dad’s gonna recognize me
hey son you did this we’re gonna make it
we’re going to visit a lot you did this
you’re getting a car at 16 if you do
this I’ll buy you a car if you don’t
have wait till 17 when you graduate from
high school if you have this GPA and you
get a scholarship full right to a school
I’ll buy you a condo I’ll pay for
whatever it is this is a compensation
plan that you create as a parent for
your kids right the same exact thing is
what I would be looking at if I’m the
president
how’s the security in the country do we
feel safe is the military solid do we
have most recent solid equipment that if
we go against the enemy who the top 5
countries with the strongest military
can we hang with them can we if
something were to happen number 2 what
is our current economical system look
like and who does it benefit number 3
who do I want as citizens I think this
is sometimes your odds it’s not
politically correct what I’m telling you
let me explain to what I mean by this if
you and I were to run a country today I
always I would love to have 10 million
people in the country for us to be
running because we would turn that
country into a country where it would
attract a specific type of people that
we want which is what so when you think
about an immigration system
hypothetically what does it really tell
you what are you looking for okay what
are you looking for let me simplify what
type of friends do I want my kids to be
friends with that can come into my house
what am i okay with coming into my house
what friends am i okay would come into
my house so they’re around my kids and
they can influence my kids homeland
country home who do you want to attract
I would create an incentive system in a
tax system economical system because
that’s a compensation plan that attracts
the best talent
and the best talent means people around
the world who simply want to have
freedom to go out and build their
business if that’s what I want to want
to come to my country if my desires to
create a system that only benefits
people to come and say I want to get
Social Security I want to get all these
other entitlement programs then I’m
attracting people that only wanted
teittleman programs you see that a lot
of different stage what type of people
move to Texas what type of people leave
Texas people don’t like to come to Texas
because Texas is not the best in
entitlement programs but California is
so you’ll get a lot of people that want
entitlement programs going to California
or New York but not Texas because Texas
doesn’t have the best entitlement
program but Texas attracts all the
entrepreneurs similar way of looking at
that is what I’d be focused on the way
I’d run my country and by the way a lot
of people would disagree with my views
and I’m totally comfortable with do you
think that applies to some of the
entrepreneurs we have that are watching
from different parts of the world can
they apply some of the same concept 100%
listen if we have more entrepreneur
value 10 minute we got a long term
Google by him and what we want to do
we’re gonna be shaping a lot of people’s
minds that want to learn this concept of
entrepreneurship and I challenge you to
challenge it challenge it ask another
question on Twitter Peabody Real Talk
hashtag and say I disagree Pat what do
you think about this capitalism and
social name we’re about to do the video
in capitals we haven’t done it’ll be in
our video to describe all the forms of
economy but challenge it but challenge
and not on an emotional way challenge it
in a logical way so we can both learn
from it I can challenge you you can
challenge me but I think a lot of
countries and entrepreneurs need to make
a decision to get involved in a
political system that it benefits their
countries a environment that it helps
you breathe more entrepreneurs which
essentially helps with the economical
system job creation all this other stuff
so people don’t need to leave other
countries to come to America there are a
lot of things other countries can do to
help them with their systems so they
don’t have to come to America for the
opportunity but that that be my answer
to the question about presidency we have
a manola Kihara man over here them on
got him on got him on me im a champion
in Farsi nice yes so I’m an OA champion
ask Patrick how do you identify the root
cause in any situation that you deal
with root cause in any situation I deal
with okay so I go deep until there’s
nothing else to do
okay for instance my son smells like
weed okay hypothetically is a 16 year
old kid comes home he smells like weed
and I’m gonna catch it Mario knows I
smell everything so I’m gonna say that
I’m all your smoke sweet but I’m gonna
catch whatever smell that comes in okay
so he comes and I say hey babe any
reason why I coated a smell like
marijuana um I don’t know babe I don’t
think he did baby it’s not like a skunk
pooped on him this is you know cuz
typically those two smells are the same
no baby I don’t know okay mom’s always
gonna protect the kid I must say let me
then bring all his him friends over to
the house
today I invite his friends over to the
house and I’m gonna go and sniff them a
little bit okay then I’m gonna see which
one of them after five times I’m
inviting these five friends over to the
house I will see a trend with one of
them then I’m gonna find out what his
habits are and I’m gonna see the route
is he is hanging out with this kid who
smokes these other four kids don’t I’m
gonna make sure I have a conversation
with them about that but I’m gonna get
to the root of it then maybe I’m gonna
have a conversation with this kid and
find out about his parents by inviting
his parents over to the house to see the
standards are their parents mom and dad
if they’re okay with it then I’m gonna
dig deeper I’m gonna go deep until I
have no more answers to the question
once I know that I’ve resolved that if I
resolve this then I can fix this one
here because it always not same thing
goes with business same thing goes with
health same thing goes with finances go
as deep as you can with the problem
until you can’t ever find anything else
then you probably at the root of it
we have muhammad al KO hedgy asks how
can a 17 year old approach a company for
a business deal
how can a 17 year old approach a company
with a business deal I don’t think I
understand the question
Mohammed you need to get more clear that
is a general question I can’t help him
with that quality we have I don’t know
the company I don’t know the product I
don’t know the industry let’s go to the
next one got it we have bro heat she do
Rolla
okay and he asked Indian startups are
failing despite copying successful
startups in the USA what can we do to
replicate the success so ro Heat number
one you’re assuming Indian startups are
fail
at a faster rate than startups that are
failing in America I don’t have that
data to tell you it is true or it is not
true so that is an assumption based on
what you’re saying so I don’t know it
now
I think India’s population is well 1.2
billion 1.1 billion I don’t think it’s
one and a half billion because that’s
China but I want to say 1.1 to 1.3
billion people right so if you have 1.2
billion people
let’s check real quick with India’s can
you check to see what India’s population
is this matters I’ll take exactly why
this matters on how I’m doing the math
here in Diaz population let’s see what
we got here perfect 1.25 2 billion in
2013 look so let’s just say it’s OK in
China is 1.33 8 so can we is it fair to
say us is at 330 million now check this
at one point three three eight versus
330 million that’s 4x so if you have 100
startup failures we have 25 is the same
thing your populations 4 exerts you’re
supposed to have four times as many
failures as ours right so one who is
saying it’s a higher failure rate show
than us what is that source is it
credible what is it based off of
comparing us to India now let’s just say
you’re right
it is true and that is what’s happening
let me tell you what I’d be doing here’s
what I’d be doing my number one focus
would be if you look at like some of
these companies in America when they
were struggling with automotive industry
and they were having challenging times
they went and they sent some of their
executives and they brought people from
Toyota to work for GM or Ford or all
this other stuff because Toyota is one
the best case studies in a company that
took the company holder for a lover
because they were driven based on
systems they have 20-year vision there’s
standards there 59 seconds on how long
it takes to find an error in to you know
what do you call it window would easily
line assembly line I mean they’re just
very efficient so companies went to find
out exactly what Toyota is doing right
and they brought it to Ford GM and they
started duplicating some and they
brought some of the talent over and it
realized the way Americans think is
completely different than the way people
think in Japan with Toyota right Oh
two things one I am bringing as many
entrepreneurs from us to attract them to
want to do business in India number two
I am sending as many of my entrepreneurs
from India to Silicon Valley and some of
the best hubs and start up in America
for them to pick up the habits and bring
you back to us and then I’m teaching the
concept of entrepreneurship and I’m
investing a lot of money into education
about entrepreneurship to make sure the
spirit of entrepreneurs ‘im is spreading
in India extremely fast right now
India’s got a president that believes in
capitalism and by the way I don’t know
if you know that India’s got 41
different political parties 40 to 45
different political 45 billion of them
it’s a lot of different political
parties and obviously they got still
domain court 2 to 3 but 45 different
political parties the existing president
in India loves capitalism and
entrepreneurs are grown over there with
capitalism but that would be my
suggestion to you first find that if
it’s an accurate statement to go hang
out with the people that know what
they’re doing and bring them to India
believe me that spirit will spread
pretty quickly that whole story about
you remember the story about Monterrey
the the the birds there didn’t know how
to hunt so because people who were
fishing at Monterey California used to
be called the 4th planet the army base
there or fort or these these birds
didn’t know how to fish because these
birds didn’t know how to fish because
the fishermen were going out there and
they were fishing and once they’re
taking all the stuff out of the fish all
the leftovers would stay there so these
birds seagulls would come they would eat
that they didn’t have to learn how to
hunt anymore so one day they blocked it
off and fishermen couldn’t fish anymore
and what they started seeing as all
these seagulls were dying Wow
they were all over the place all these
birds were telling what is going on over
here
then the city went and brought birds
from Australia who knew how to hunt and
they brought hundreds of them and they
put him right there and the seagull
sweat forgot how to hunt they hung out
with hunters and they realize they know
how to hunt they would go underwater
they picked up a habit they were field
trained by shadowing other birds that
knew how to hunt nice everything got
fixed that’s what in
needs to do if this is a valid issue
taking place in India with startups
failing god last question Vince Wang
asks Patrick if you’re starting to have
success as an entrepreneur when can or
should you start spending money cars
houses etc so a year after you want to
do it so let’s just say you’re really
tempted to do it now wait one more year
and then do it it’s a very simple rule
if you’re very excited about going and
getting a nice car right now wait one
more year and and get if you’re really
excited about buying a house right now
wait one more year and then go do it
it’s not gonna make a difference but by
the way let me tell you a nice car
depending on what city you’re living in
New York a nice car doesn’t matter why
cuz no one drives a nice car in New York
because everybody’s doing some where’s
subways is what they’re doing right now
a nice car in a city that’s a city that
those things matter I’m sorry people
judge you based on your car they judge
you based on the clothes your way they
judge you based on the way you look
we are pretty pretentious we are pretty
I remember when I first came to Dallas
my personal trainer said Dallas is one
of the most vain cities in America
everybody wants to look good everybody
wants to do this there is a there’s an
idea people get based on the car you
drive the clothes you’re wearing the way
you look the way you carry yourself
until everybody knows you’re successful
all those things matter
but wait one year after you really
really want to buy an exotic nice car or
nice house that’s the best question man
what do you think was the best question
how about we let you pick this time I
really like the question about the the
u.s. of what you would do because the
way you treat your home can apply to
anywhere you can implement that
everywhere how let me ask off your
picking him because he’s got the best
name in the world is that this first
name Patrick’s a pretty a pretty cool
name Patrick my good friend named
Patrick so you got to send Mario some
love for picking you as the winner
Patrick Lyons you get yourself an I am
an entrepreneur short be sure to get
ahold of Mario what color you want
I think his options will be red green
black whatever it is yep your Sammy will
bring to you and everybody else that’s
watching this this is our third episode
I’m already loving all the different
questions that we’re getting we have
hundreds of questions that we haven’t
gotten to we’re getting the
we’re getting hundreds of questions that
we haven’t gotten to so if you haven’t
get asked your question go on twitter
twitter handle patrick mid david hashtag
peabody real talk
and believe me mario goes through every
single one of them but just make sure
you’re not asking general questions i
cannot wait to see more questions going
on twitter and some of you guys don’t
forget you can ask the questions on
video as well so it will be featured on
the channels but more any last thoughts
before I wrap up that’s good okay I’m
alright oh you did very good again thank
you so much appreciate a live focus my
co-host Mary you’re agate right people
still want you to do that video by the
what it is to write some comments if you
guys want to see me talk about what it’s
like to work with Patrick let me know we
don’t know the quests tell them the
truth are you gonna be diplomatic I’m
gonna have to expose the truth you can
expose the naked truth of working with
Patrick but David now we can skip that a
little bit because if the truth comes
out people gonna see a different side of
DBD yeah we’ll see anyways comment on
the bottom if you want him to do the
video with that being said go ask your
questions on Twitter take everybody by
by by by the line
[Music] you

house I will see a trend with one of
them then I’m gonna find out what his
habits are and I’m gonna see the route
is he is hanging out with this kid who
smokes these other four kids don’t I’m
gonna make sure I have a conversation
with them about that but I’m gonna get
to the root of it then maybe I’m gonna
have a conversation with this kid and
find out about his parents by inviting
his parents over to the house to see the
standards are their parents mom and dad
if they’re okay with it then I’m gonna
dig deeper I’m gonna go deep until I
have no more answers to the question
once I know that I’ve resolved that if I
resolve this then I can fix this one
here because it always not same thing
goes with business same thing goes with
health same thing goes with finances go
as deep as you can with the problem
until you can’t ever find anything else
then you probably at the root of it
we have muhammad al KO hedgy asks how
can a 17 year old approach a company for
a business deal
how can a 17 year old approach a company
with a business deal I don’t think I
understand the question
Mohammed you need to get more clear that
is a general question I can’t help him
with that quality we have I don’t know
the company I don’t know the product I
don’t know the industry let’s go to the
next one got it we have bro heat she do
Rolla
okay and he asked Indian startups are
failing despite copying successful
startups in the USA what can we do to
replicate the success so ro Heat number
one you’re assuming Indian startups are
fail
at a faster rate than startups that are
failing in America I don’t have that
data to tell you it is true or it is not
true so that is an assumption based on
what you’re saying so I don’t know it
now
I think India’s population is well 1.2
billion 1.1 billion I don’t think it’s
one and a half billion because that’s
China but I want to say 1.1 to 1.3
billion people right so if you have 1.2
billion people
let’s check real quick with India’s can
you check to see what India’s population
is this matters I’ll take exactly why
this matters on how I’m doing the math
here in Diaz population let’s see what
we got here perfect 1.25 2 billion in
2013 look so let’s just say it’s OK in
China is 1.33 8 so can we is it fair to
say us is at 330 million now check this
at one point three three eight versus
330 million that’s 4x so if you have 100
startup failures we have 25 is the same
thing your populations 4 exerts you’re
supposed to have four times as many
failures as ours right so one who is
saying it’s a higher failure rate show
than us what is that source is it
credible what is it based off of
comparing us to India now let’s just say
you’re right
it is true and that is what’s happening
let me tell you what I’d be doing here’s
what I’d be doing my number one focus
would be if you look at like some of
these companies in America when they
were struggling with automotive industry
and they were having challenging times
they went and they sent some of their
executives and they brought people from
Toyota to work for GM or Ford or all
this other stuff because Toyota is one
the best case studies in a company that
took the company holder for a lover
because they were driven based on
systems they have 20-year vision there’s
standards there 59 seconds on how long
it takes to find an error in to you know
what do you call it window would easily
line assembly line I mean they’re just
very efficient so companies went to find
out exactly what Toyota is doing right
and they brought it to Ford GM and they
started duplicating some and they
brought some of the talent over and it
realized the way Americans think is
completely different than the way people
think in Japan with Toyota right Oh
two things one I am bringing as many
entrepreneurs from us to attract them to
want to do business in India number two
I am sending as many of my entrepreneurs
from India to Silicon Valley and some of
the best hubs and start up in America
for them to pick up the habits and bring
you back to us and then I’m teaching the
concept of entrepreneurship and I’m
investing a lot of money into education
about entrepreneurship to make sure the
spirit of entrepreneurs ‘im is spreading
in India extremely fast right now
India’s got a president that believes in
capitalism and by the way I don’t know
if you know that India’s got 41
different political parties 40 to 45
different political 45 billion of them
it’s a lot of different political
parties and obviously they got still
domain court 2 to 3 but 45 different
political parties the existing president
in India loves capitalism and
entrepreneurs are grown over there with
capitalism but that would be my
suggestion to you first find that if
it’s an accurate statement to go hang
out with the people that know what
they’re doing and bring them to India
believe me that spirit will spread
pretty quickly that whole story about
you remember the story about Monterrey
the the the birds there didn’t know how
to hunt so because people who were
fishing at Monterey California used to
be called the 4th planet the army base
there or fort or these these birds
didn’t know how to fish because these
birds didn’t know how to fish because
the fishermen were going out there and
they were fishing and once they’re
taking all the stuff out of the fish all
the leftovers would stay there so these
birds seagulls would come they would eat
that they didn’t have to learn how to
hunt anymore so one day they blocked it
off and fishermen couldn’t fish anymore
and what they started seeing as all
these seagulls were dying Wow
they were all over the place all these
birds were telling what is going on over
here
then the city went and brought birds
from Australia who knew how to hunt and
they brought hundreds of them and they
put him right there and the seagull
sweat forgot how to hunt they hung out
with hunters and they realize they know
how to hunt they would go underwater
they picked up a habit they were field
trained by shadowing other birds that
knew how to hunt nice everything got
fixed that’s what in
needs to do if this is a valid issue
taking place in India with startups
failing god last question Vince Wang
asks Patrick if you’re starting to have
success as an entrepreneur when can or
should you start spending money cars
houses etc so a year after you want to
do it so let’s just say you’re really
tempted to do it now wait one more year
and then do it it’s a very simple rule
if you’re very excited about going and
getting a nice car right now wait one
more year and and get if you’re really
excited about buying a house right now
wait one more year and then go do it
it’s not gonna make a difference but by
the way let me tell you a nice car
depending on what city you’re living in
New York a nice car doesn’t matter why
cuz no one drives a nice car in New York
because everybody’s doing some where’s
subways is what they’re doing right now
a nice car in a city that’s a city that
those things matter I’m sorry people
judge you based on your car they judge
you based on the clothes your way they
judge you based on the way you look
we are pretty pretentious we are pretty
I remember when I first came to Dallas
my personal trainer said Dallas is one
of the most vain cities in America
everybody wants to look good everybody
wants to do this there is a there’s an
idea people get based on the car you
drive the clothes you’re wearing the way
you look the way you carry yourself
until everybody knows you’re successful
all those things matter
but wait one year after you really
really want to buy an exotic nice car or
nice house that’s the best question man
what do you think was the best question
how about we let you pick this time I
really like the question about the the
u.s. of what you would do because the
way you treat your home can apply to
anywhere you can implement that
everywhere how let me ask off your
picking him because he’s got the best
name in the world is that this first
name Patrick’s a pretty a pretty cool
name Patrick my good friend named

love for picking you as the winner
