as noisy as the Internet is today with
everybody wanting to call themselves an
expert how do you go about separating
the person that’s the so called expert
versus the real expert today I’m going
to talk to you about that as well as
what I call a trifecta expert and what
qualifies to become an expert and the
most important question to ask of
anybody that calls them an expert sir
prior to me getting into this I want you
to think about this there are a lot of
people on YouTube that do well because
they’re attractive there are some that
do well because they’re very good at
telling stories or great speakers there
are some that do well that are very very
funny incredible personalities and all
of those things can be attractive but
just like you’re not get judged on
friends that we have you and I will get
judged on you know relationships we have
you get judged on anything you do you’re
also gonna get judged based on the
experts you choose because of this it
comes down to how well you process what
makes someone an expert so let’s get
right into it so qualifications of an
expert I have a theory I call this the T
theory let me explain to what it means
first of all there are experts but there
are three areas that determine someone
to become an expert one is theory okay
and theory is what someone who is very
well-read somebody who has done lots of
research on a topic somebody who is you
know studied a topic someone who has
investigated a topic and so they have
their own philosophies they have doing
ideas but it’s purely an expert based on
theories that they have there are a lot
of those online I consider that the
lowest level of an expert the second one
is experience okay now let me explain
you what experience is experience to me
is someone who has worked under somebody
who ran a real estate business and they
did very well so this person didn’t
necessarily sell real estate
but the person selling real estate is
very successful he was so close to her
so he learned from her through
experience and watching it happen that
is the second highest level of an expert
because you can talk to them and say hey
how was it working with
marry hey how was it working with Bob in
through experience he could tell you
about the successful traits of Mary Bob
or whoever the successful real estate
person entrepreneur is right that’s the
second highest level the third highest
level of an expert is somebody that is
through application this is the highest
level of expertise let me explain what
this is this is someone you go and talk
to and you say hey when you fought
Buster Douglas how was it when you
fought Mike Tyson what did you have to
look for when you were fighting Mike
Tyson when you started your business
what were some pitfalls when you had a
partner that didn’t work out well how
did you create the exit strategy of the
partner when you were going through a
breakup in your personal life and you
were still running your business
how did you manage yourself to not go
crazy and still keep your business
together that’s the highest level
because they’re talking about
application on what they did right on
what they did they’re sharing that with
you so how do you qualify someone to
become an expert look there are theory
people YouTube is filled with people
that are theory type of experts there
are experienced people
I watched XYZ do X Y Z but I’ve never
done it that’s still a good expert to go
through then you have the application
the trifecta of an expert if you find if
you’re lucky enough to find somebody
who’s a trifecta
and someone who has experience with all
three every one of these someone who has
experience with theory because they’ve
studied the subject someone who has that
the experience of watching other people
who are very good how to do it and
someone who has applied the things that
they learned for themselves in a
business if you can find that person
that’s the real experts now what is the
most important question to ask of
somebody who calls themselves an expert
here’s what the question is how did you
make your money how did you make your
money why is that so important well
because nowadays a lot of online experts
will talk about a subject and they never
made the money in that subject they’re
just talking about that subject because
they’ve read a lot of books about it
theory or they have somebody who did
that and they talk about it right how
did you make your money and I actually
want to know how you made your money I
actually really want to know how you
made your money because nowadays if
somebody says you know I made my money
it’s not online but they’re calling
themselves a multi-millionaire but no
one knows about it online I have a
problem with that you know I have
problem with that I remember one time I
went to uh what’s that one book who’s
the TEDx speaker what is the guise of
Simon Senate I went up to simon Sinek
and I really like this book I think it’s
a great book and I went up to him and I
said hey Simon how did you make your
money and his answer was a general
answer I said what did you do to run to
make your money and there was no answer
on how he made his money and that made
me look at his book great book but I
never looked at him as a trifecta expert
after that I just saw him as a good
speaker who promoted his book well and
he had a great message I got to the
world
he’s a theory and an experienced expert
he’s not an application necessarily
expert at the highest level so if you
want me to get a little bit more
specific with this I’ll give you an
example of sports in the world of MBA
you have the play-by-play commentator
and you have the analysts if you look at
TNT
they have Ernie Johnson who’s a great
commentator play-by-play but the analyst
is Kenny Smith Charles Barkley Shaq
varied the experts because of
application and experience and theory
they’re the trifecta experts that
everybody wants to hear from we like to
hear their advice when the movie lone
survivor was shot with Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg did the story of the lone
survivor because he won and met him and
the lone survivor told him what it is to
do their job to paint the experience to
work out because Mark Wahlberg wanted
wanted to find out from the guy who
applied what he knows and the experience
and the theories so he can get into a
role the part the best to his abilities
and that’s why so many people love the
movie lone survivor so you know again
going back to it three types of expert
