how much should you spend on clothing
it’s a good question I get it all the
time how much should I spend on these
shoes in zone you know how much should I
spend on this jacket because you’re
gonna look at those prices out there
you’ll see $50 $500 $2,000 for a jacket
what is the difference what are you
getting in today’s video I’m gonna talk
about five factors that affect the price
of the clothing you see out there and
I’m gonna talk about individual items
Who am I I’m a Antonio I’m the founder
of real men real style and I want to
thank value tainment for bringing me on
their channel to teach you all the power
of presentation and how it can increase
your earnings how it can increase your
competence and what people think of you
because think about it when you walk in
the room you make a split decision based
off of what you see before someone opens
their mouth you’ve already sized them up
you’ve already made a determination do
you trust them fight-or-flight response
here and it’s something that I want you
to be able to master because yes I know
that who we are on the inside matters
more than what we are on the outside but
like a diamond that’s been shine think
about that through heat and pressure
you’ve got a lot to show the world and
make sure that you’re shined up so the
world can see what you have to offer
let’s get into the five factors that
affect the price of your clothing number
one what are the materials used number
two what’s the build quality number
three what’s the country of origin
number four where are you buying it in
the distribution chain and number five
let’s talk about artistic input so
number one the materials the quality
input you’ve got to understand that for
higher-end materials especially leather
goods luxury goods that use wools hire
and Cotton’s they’re using fabrics and
materials that there’s a limited amount
of and the cost of those materials is
going to be a certain amount there are
certain suits out there that will fur
and a suit uses on average three to
three-and-a-half yards of fabric each
yard of fabric from a higher-end Italian
or English mill is going to cost some
cases hundreds of dollars so the input
going into that suit we’re already
spending five hundred to a thousand
dollars you can bet that all the other
stuff on there it’s got to at least be
that otherwise the company is going to
lose money so if you’re out there
looking
skirt maybe you’re looking at a pair of
shoes and it’s $20 understand that to be
able to put that there at that price
point unless it’s been marked down and
will get in that here in a second but
understand the materials are going to be
very poor are gonna be very shoddy at
that price point it’s simply the way it
is you’ve got to think that there is
these aren’t charities these are
businesses so the materials and the cost
of goods has a huge effect on the price
next let’s talk about build quality I’m
going to use Footwear as the example so
lower end shoes they are glued together
now this allows us to get shoes to the
market that are going to be very low
cost because the time to make them
actually is required very low
however these shoes start to fall apart
they can’t be resold when we look at
higher-end shoes what we see is they’ve
been sewn together and there’s different
levels of sewing there’s blake stitching
above that is the goodyear welt both of
those require a lot more time there
requires special machinery but those
shoes can be resold they’re going to
last longer so the build quality has a
huge effect on the price now let’s talk
about origin and manufacturers so if
something is manufactured in a country
that they pay the laborers a very high
amount you’re gonna see the price
increase so if it’s not Avedon it’ll
make in the united states maybe you’re
gonna see the price go up if it’s made
in China and that doesn’t mean it’s
inferior it just simply means that
oftentimes they’ll be able to drive the
price down because they will be able to
drain the oil it’s just gonna be a lower
cost of labour now this is something a
lot of people they are you know against
something being made in Mexico I can
tell you I see amazing things especially
leather work coming out of Leon Mexico
that is great you just have to have a
discerning eye certain countries like
Japan have built up a very strong
reputation for manufacturing but you go
back to the 1950s Japan didn’t have this
reputation so it’s something that the
country
earns that they build up really depends
on what you’re getting but I’ll tell you
that it gets confusing because you’ll
get something that’s made in Italy but
it was actually made by Chinese laborers
in Italy or it was made partly assembled
in China then they sent the pieces to
Italy and it was finally assembled of
just a certain amount so a lot of this
have you can look at that label but at
the end of the day I
I would advise you check the build
quality yourself the next factor
affecting price is where you buy it in
the distribution chain so let me start
off with the high-end prices if you go
into the zania store in Las Vegas you
are gonna pay full retail price why
because it’s a show they want to set the
ceiling they want to show their best
it’s gonna have some the latest items
straight from Italy and you know that
you’re getting zania on the other hand
you’re not gonna get a discount you’re
not gonna get a deal here this is
oftentimes for people that have a lot of
money and they want to show for tourists
that are coming in and want to make sure
I know there’s a news story out of Las
Vegas they have a lot of Chinese
tourists come in there with a lot of
money and they simply want to make sure
if they’re not getting counterfeit goods
which they can’t be assured of maybe at
another store back home and so we’re
gonna go to this store they’re gonna get
exactly what they want it’s oftentimes a
status play now right below that we’re
gonna be specialty stores these are
stores that focus in on men maybe focus
in on professional women and the prices
are gonna probably be a little bit more
reasonable sometimes you can have some
great deals oftentimes I find that the
sales associates at these stores are
some of the best they’re knowledgeable
they know what they talk they’re talking
about they can actually make a very good
living working in these kind of stores
so here you’re gonna have great
knowledge and you’re gonna get you know
you’re gonna pay more but you’re
oftentimes gonna get a lot more then
right below that is going to be going to
the box stores and this is going to be
the anytime you go into a mall we’re
talking you know anything from a JC
Penney’s up to a Macy’s maybe to uh you
know some of the higher Nordstrom’s
things like this there’s a wide range of
them and you will pay different price
points at they at depending on where
they position themselves in the market
but the key with all these box stores is
oftentimes you will find some of the
best deals now on the flip side the bad
side is you don’t always can always
trust the associates sometimes you got
people that are clueless they’re from a
different department there from perfumes
working over in menswear just covering
for someone who’s on their lunch break
so you may find that okay this isn’t
gonna be the best service but you can
find some amazing deals especially when
they have like 30% 40% off deals during
the holidays but you know Black Friday
Cyber Monday type of stuff like that
after that you can go directly to the
manufacturer now I find that this is one
of the best
especially if you know what you’re
looking for so you’ve got people that
they tried to cut out the whole
distribution channel and sell directly
to the public oftentimes they don’t have
a store anywhere a physical store
they’ve got just their online presence
so this is where you can find some
amazing deals but you can also get
something that’s totally wrong because
you have no help no one helping you
navigate through although there are some
that are doing a pretty good job after
that we’ve got lower cost discount
stores so this is gonna be like you know
and the other places where clothing is
oftentimes gotten rid of so we’re
talking maybe the Salvation Army we’re
talking to Goodwill stores we’re talking
to consignment stores things like that
but what I love about these is you can
find amazing deals oftentimes you know
for guys I know when somebody passes
away what happens to all those guys that
all the Elvis suits his widow donates
them so yeah you’ve got the suits of a
dead guy but hey that was a $2,000 suit
and you got it for 20 bucks so if you’re
cool with that but the point being is
that is the lifecycle of the clothing
and where you grab it in the
distribution channel it’s gonna have a
huge effect on the price the final
factor affecting price is artistic input
and the values that the artist places on
his work so if you get something that’s
manufactured by a machine
obviously the artistic input is pretty
minimal except for you know the designer
who put the outfit together and designed
it that’s pretty much it but if you go
to Santa Fe New Mexico and you’re going
through all those great shops and you
find you know wow this is an amazing
shawl or this these are amazing earrings
these are just amazing shoes one of a
kind you may find that those shoes are
going to be incredibly expensive or if
the artist is good and they don’t value
their work very much which happens a lot
especially over on Etsy I see this all
the time you can find just amazing deals
great looking pieces that you won’t find
anywhere else and they’re going for
really low prices so this can have
either a negative effect it can also
have a very high effect and can knock it
up into the stratosphere especially if
it’s coming in the menswear industry
from like a high-end suit manufacturer
like on Savile Row I consider bespoke
clothing to be an from an artisan if
almost like artistic it doesn’t mean
though when you get something like this
it’s going to be better than just
something like
off-the-rack or you know from any of
these other places it just simply means
that it’s going to be made specifically
for you with the input of an artist so a
lot of material covered in this video I
know I could have gone into a lot more
detail and if you want more definitely
go check out the other videos in this
series this video is built off of those
other ones so if you haven’t watched
them yet go check them out we’ll link to
them down in the description I want to
thank Valu tainment Patrick Mario the
team over there for allowing me to be
here to share this information with you
and remember when you’re out there
buying clothing for your wardrobe this
is an investment like your education
except people when you’ve got that fancy
degree you spent twenty thousand fifty
thousand a hundred thousand dollars on
that degree but nobody sees it what you
wear on your body
people see every single day so make sure
what you wear matches what’s in here
okay guys I’ll see you in the next video take care
it’s a good question I get it all the
time how much should I spend on these
shoes in zone you know how much should I
spend on this jacket because you’re
