Tongue Twister Pronunciation Challenge šŸ˜ with Go Natural English!

well hey there Iā€™m Emma from English
today Iā€™ve asked a good friend of mine
to join me for a tongue-twister
challenge and you might just recognize
her just in case you missed it yesterday
November the 11th was international
tongue twister day yep there is an
official day to twist your tongue and
focus on some challenging English sounds
so Gabi and I decided that weā€™d like to
celebrate this fine day with you by
challenging each other and you to
complete some tricky tongue twisters now
you may recognize Gabi from the amazing
go natural English YouTube channel if
you do know her make sure you say hi in
the comments below sheā€™ll be down there
saying hi to Gabi is an American English
teacher and since Iā€™m an Australian
English teacher you might hear some
differences in our pronunciation during
this lesson most notably youā€™ll hear a
little difference in vowel sounds and
the or consonant sound particularly when
itā€™s at the end of words so see if you
can recognize some of those differences
you might need to listen carefully so in
this video Iā€™ll be challenging Gabi to
some tongue twisters and theyā€™re pretty
tricky ones too but Gabi challenged me
to some of her favorite tongue twisters
and you can watch that video on her
channel Iā€™ll link to it at the end of
the lesson so donā€™t go anywhere
now even though tongue twisters are
short sentences they repeat the same or
very similar sounds over and over again
like an intense gym workout for your
tongue repetition will help your tongue
to feel more comfortable with these
strange English sounds and it will also
help you to reduce your accent
and pronounce words more quickly and
lastly tongue twisters are ridiculously
fun I guarantee that youā€™ll be laughing
at Gabby and me during this lesson and
youā€™ll probably be laughing at yourself
too and thatā€™s fine so Gabby I hereby
challenge you to say my tongue twisters
as fast as you can
Emma I hereby accept your tongue twister
challenge are you ready yes I think Iā€™m
ready okay letā€™s do this number one how
can a clam cram in a clean cream can how
can a clam cram in a clean cream can how
can a clam cram in a clean cream can
itā€™s tricky right how can a clam cram in
a clean cream can so one of the most
challenging parts about this tongue
twister is the repeated crew and cool
consonant clusters many of you have
trouble hearing and producing the
different sounds for a and all
consonants and when these sounds are
pushed together with the sound itā€™s even
more of a challenge so if youā€™re having
trouble with this part then pause the
video for a minute and practice the
sounds a few times cool cool
clam clean Curl Curl cram cream try it
okay Gabi number two and oh this oneā€™s a
little tricky six sick Hicks nicked six
slick bricks with pigs and sticks six
six six six six Nick six sick Hicks Nick
six like bricks with pix & Stix this one
is really hard six sick Hicks Nick six
slick bricks with sticks and pics whoa I
think I memorized it that oneā€™s odd so I
said earlier that we use tongue twisters
to practice difficult sounds again and
again to try and improve them so can you
guess which combination of sounds we
were practicing here the consonant
cluster six Hicks Rickā€™s picks sticks
and also the short e sound so try to
focus on the short it and avoid the long
e sound itā€™s not Peaks and sticks but
pix & Stix okay if you need to pause and
practice some of these words on their
own first then please do thatā€™s a great
strategy now if youā€™re ready itā€™s your
number three Rory the warrior and Roger
the warrior were redrawn Lee in a rural
brewery Rory the warrior and Roger the
warrior were reared wrongly in a rural
brewery yes one more time even faster
Rory the warrior and Roger the warrior
were reared wrongly in a real brewery oh
yeah this one is so hard
rural brewery itā€™s a tongue-twister on
its own isnā€™t it the challenge is the
consonant sound so if you need to spend
a few minutes getting your tongue warmed
up and ready for that sound and then do
it so the tip of your tongue should not
be touching anything at all and it
should be raised up a little in the
rule now youā€™re lucky that neither Gabby
all myself speak with a British English
accent because this word is really hard
to say in an English accent
ready practice with me ooh thatā€™s the
vowel sound Roo Roo Roo Roo
so the second syllable is unstressed and
itā€™s lower in pitch rule rule now
brewery brewery so the middle syllable
here is really soft so if youā€™re having
a lot of trouble pronouncing this word
then Iā€™ve got a trick for you try brew
brew re brew re itā€™s close enough and
itā€™s a little easier to say brewery
brewery now thereā€™s a noticeable
difference in the way that Gabby and I
pronounce this word warrior warrior can
you hear the difference in that stressed
silly
all their that Oh sound the first
syllable and thatā€™s actually the same
sound that youā€™ll hear in this male
named Roger and in wrongly as well so
where I pronounce this vowel sound as Oh
Gabi users more of an ah sound
Roger Roger wrongly wrongly and did you
also notice the different pronunciation
at the end of the name Roger standard
American English pronunciation
pronounces the sound at the end after
the vowel sound and youā€™ll hear Gabi say
that Roger Roger but standard British
English and Australian English we donā€™t
pronounce that sound Roger Roger
so this is a really noticeable
pronunciation difference between our
accents well thanks Gabi I picked some
really tricky tongue twisters there for
you thank you so much Emma I enjoyed
your challenge those were really tricky
tongue twisters happy international
tongue twister day to everyone and how
did you go was one of those tongue
twisters particularly difficult for you
tell me which one was the hardest in the
comments I think that the second one was
probably the most difficult for me and
have you got any other tongue twisters
of your own that you practice with if
you do share them in the comments I want
you to see if you can get my tongue
twisted to celebrate international
tongue twister day now donā€™t forget to
head straight over to the go natural
English YouTube channel to practice some
more tongue twisters but over there Gabi
is challenging me donā€™t forget to
