welcome back with today’s quick
pronunciation lesson we’re looking at
the verb would and all of the pronouns
and how they contract and how they sound
and move if someone invites you to do
something the common polite response is
I’d love to for example would you like
to go to the cinema I’d love to
pronunciation I’d I’d love to
it sounds more common in regular speech
to make this sound like I’d love to so
this sounds more like a weaker form and
I’d love to would you like to go I’d
love to say it with me and I’d love to
I’d love to
you’d you’d you’d love to we’d we’d love
to they’d they’d love to she’d she’d
love to he’d he’d love to
it would it I’d love to that doesn’t
make sense okay those are all positive
how about negative the common
contraction is not to contract the
pronoun and would the common contraction
is to contract would and not you
wouldn’t and the same for the rest you
didn’t I don’t that’s not a thing so we
don’t contract this any further than
this if we’re talking about an unreal
past situation we could add have and a
verb 3 or past participle for example if
someone says oh it was my birthday and
you’re thinking oh no I didn’t get you a
present
you could say if I had known it was your
birthday I now we have a video
explaining this grammar click on my
belly to see the explanation of it but
if you already know what this grammar
means that’s good because we’re only
focusing on the pronunciation of it for
this lesson so I would have got this is
not important we want to focus on this
because this is where the contraction is
so what can we contract I would we know
we can contract
I’d we could say I’d have I’d have got
you a present
can we contract it any further yes we
can we could contract would and have to
sound like would’ve I would’ve I would
have got you a present
say with me I would have can we contract
it any further yes we can we can
contract everything it sounds like I’d
of big point here never write this
contraction because that’s wrong you can
say it but don’t write it so in writing
this is bad but in spoken English very
very common so I’d of I’d have got you a
present
oh it was your birthday I’d have got you
a present
if I’d known you’d have you’d have we’d
have say with me we dove they dove they
dove he dove she’d of iterative that and
so fun it ative how was the party last
night me it’s it even better if you’d
been there and how do we use this as a
negative
the only real contractions are you
wouldn’t have or contracted all together
you wouldn’t have wouldn’t have say it
with me wouldn’t have you wouldn’t’ve
for example I was the party good last
night me you wouldn’t have liked it we
actually contract this even further we
can remove this tea so it sounds like
wouldn’t’ve you wouldn’t have liked it
this is more common maybe your teacher
will say that this is bad English but
you will definitely hear it not everyone
speaks the same not everyone speaks
standard English there are many
different varieties and it’s good to
know all of the different ways to
pronounce it we hope you found that
lesson useful if you have any problems
with pronunciation let us know in the
comments and we’ll try to do it in a
future lesson have a great week see you
