LEARN LIVE!! Prepositions with Money, pronunciation and MORE!

you
you
hello lovely people how are you doing
with we’re now live on YouTube and I
believe we’re live on Facebook too so
today we’re going to look at some
prepositions with oh I can hear myself
we’re going to do some prepositions with
money we’re going to do some
pronunciation because everyone loves
pronunciation and we’re going to do
whatever one to practice at home so
whatever you want to practice ask them
in the comments if you’re having trouble
is your comment getting lost use the
super chat feature it’s all there for
you to use so first thing we’re going to
look at today is um different ways of
using your money sometimes you give your
money for a short time sometimes you
receive money for a short time sometimes
you get money from a casino sometimes
you get money from a job and they all
have different verbs we’re going to
learn both those verbs and the
prepositions that go with those verbs so
um I think are you ready to begin I’m
ready to begin are you are you sure are
you positive it’s Sunday I know this is
like your sleep date and my sleep day
but we’re going to learn some English I
hope you enjoy it and I think Facebook
if you want a better experience go to
YouTube the link is on the Facebook page
I’ll see you there there we go so now
it’s just me and you YouTube let’s see
where you guys are from and we’ve got
people from and people from Brazil holy
crap hi Brazil Tiago nice to nicely see
you hear me how about now
whatever yeah maybe you can hear me now
maybe you can hear me now well it is
there we go now I think you should be
able to hear me let me know because if
not then there’s a big problem
[Music]
now you can hear me just there we go
boom done and microphone problems but no
worries today is going to be great and I
have something great planned for you
today and pull it up Peru hello nice to
see you Malaysia
hello Ukraine what some people from
everywhere good ok now you can hear me
clearly now we can begin this is great
um if you don’t already remember to
subscribe tell your friends to subscribe
invite them into this lesson today we’re
going to have a great lesson I have a
great show planned for you um
perfect voice says blue Jim yes I agree
I was born with this voice and I paid
good money for this voice yes so let’s
start with the first one when you’re
when you want something what do you have
to do you have to do this you have your
your visa card there and let’s say you
buy a new laptop new iPod a new uh
whatever you go to the Apple store or
whichever store I’m not paid by Apple so
I don’t care which store you go to this
one what can you say you can say I what
the iPad you could say purchase son gets
yes well done you could say purchase
that is one option but another option is
you have lips area this is my first time
using this so um you have to be patient
yeah yeah good you can say bye for
someone or pay for something so let’s do
the differences we’ve got em but by that
you give someone money they give you the
thingy so I bought an iPad for example
for myself or for my friend
if
pay for the thing that the difference
between buy and pay you buy a product at
an actual thing that you can hold you
pay for a service so you can pay for a
massage pay for some service you can buy
a thing now we’ve paid you have two
prepositions pay for the iPad you can
pay for the iPad by that’s the method
pay for it by card or by cash so tell me
what was the last thing that you bought
or paid for for example you may have
paid for and your student loan at
university you may have paid for a
holiday what did you buy last time
remember the past of these verbs pay
paid by bought also the same in verb
three for both pay paid paid by bought
bought and you paid for classes remember
that the spelling of pay is all you know
I can do this is great is it you know
this is going to blow mind boom there we
are
those are the conjugations pay paid paid
so just remember that’s where are we
there we are for one the two and three
are both the same they don’t change so
this is really really cool this is
really easy right so remember pay for a
service pay for a hairdryer yes you
could remember pay is a service or a
product by is just a product let’s see
what what else have you bought or paid
for and some of you have paid for
naughty things
which is quite funny I have to say okay
next one and the next one when you give
money and two to a friend for example
for a short time you don’t give it
forever you give that money for a short
time they will give you that money back
later or maybe the other way maybe
someone gave you money for a short time
what’s that one that’s let’s visualize
this you give it for a short time or you
receive it for a short time what do you
call that
yes exactly you guys have got it
we’ve got lend and borrow if you if you
receive it you borrow it if you give it
you lend it so um
has anyone ever lent you money well have
you ever borrowed money from someone
let’s write the past lend lent lent
whoops yeah bang oh yeah yes lend is the
verb 1 lent verb to and lent verb 3 it’s
easy and borrow is a regular verb so
that doesn’t change borrow borrowed
borrowed and the last time I borrowed
money um I think it took me a long time
to pay it back I can’t another why um no
I’m lying I’m lying I pay things back
straightaway but last time I lent
someone money it took them a long time
to pay it back is it a good idea to lend
money to friends I don’t know what do
you think
okay so let’s return with your comments
I have lent some money from my best
friend no remember you lend to you
borrow from
remember the preposition be very careful
and I borrowed a pen from my classmate
good job yes you wrote that one and
Shaima good job sham a good example i
borrowed something from someone
remember it’s received so it’s from that
lend to borrow from be careful of those
prayer prepositions and someone said
iris said that’s why I never lend money
it’s a good life lesson and it’s best
not to learn money unless it’s a short
you know for a short time and a little
money then it’s fine I don’t then it’s
fine how about when we’re in the
restaurant I’ll pay for the food or I’ll
buy the food that is a good question in
10 putri very good question in a
restaurant and I mean you could say I’ll
buy the meal but no we all say we’ll pay
for it I’ll pay for the meal I’ll pay
for the food um however in a restaurant
we don’t often say pay or buy as much as
we say I’ll get it we’re in a restaurant
we’re eating and the bill comes and I
say don’t worry I’ll get it I will get
it I will I’ll get it I’ll get it
don’t worry I’ll pay I’ll get it okay
next one you ready for some more I am
let’s see um you have a dream you want
to go snowboarding you want to see some
strange country some new place do some
new thing you don’t have enough money
you need more money what do you need to
do
you have a little pot there you collect
all of your money for that one thing
saving well done yes I have once upon a
dream you got it
you said save absolutely yes to save
money for is the preposition well dear
no there we go
so in this case it’s your dream to go
snowboarding so this verb is to save or
as of as a full verb with the
prepositions save up to save up you have
two options with this to save up to do
something that’s the verb or to save up
for something which is the noun I am
let’s see if I can make a little thing
this is you do I do oh oh yes nice there
we go boom I have a little pointer now
so save up to that’s with a verb save up
to go save up to do save up to travel
save up for that’s with a noun
notice that a trip that is a noun save
up for a trip I’m saving up for a
snowboarding trip for example I’m saving
up for a holiday I’m saving up for a new
laptop I’m saving up for a car with a
verb however with a verb I’m saving up
to buy a new car and saving up to buy a
new a new whatever
you saving up to do or what are you
saving up for at the moment me I’m
saving up for I need a new laptop this
one is dying and I’m saving up for a new
camera and basically new things to make
new videos for you lovely people that’s
what I’m saving up for what are you
saving up for let’s see let’s read your
comments infra-red
us nice to see you back you said I’m
saving up for my London trip you’re
coming to London that is awesome I’m
glad to hear it saving up for your
London trip perfect and Ellis Greene
said can you lend me some money no I
don’t have any sorry um Christopher
Barry says I’m saving up for my trip to
Peru I hope you have a lovely trip to
Peru oh my god that’s gonna be amazing
saving up for a trip to Japan well
that’s gonna be fun Leandro says I’m
saving up for I’m saving up for
travelling to London saving up for is
with the noun you have written traveling
so yes but we won’t say like that I’m
saving up to travel to London sounds
better but again make it shorter English
people are lazy so I’m saving up for
London is much better and saving up for
London that sounds more natural and Rico
you’re saving up for a new phone nice
which phone reset my iPhone died and so
yeah I’m saving for a new phone as well
I’m more people saving up for a trip and
to London that’s great that’s great um
and Roberto says I’m saving up to my
next Christmas trip to New York whoa
that would be Christmas in New York
would be fun with people you know and
someone Korean asks do you have any plan
to bring Jason Statham to the live
lesson if I knew Jason Statham I would
that would be W was it that that would
that be pretty great but no sorry
okay next one you ready for our next
verb our next verb is when you have lots
of money and use you give it to this you
throw your money at stupid things things
that you don’t need you spend your money
on unnecessary things you do this what
is this guy doing this guy he has area
he has bought how many is that one two
three four five six i pads that stupid
what else has he bought he has bought a
car he’s buying lots of things he’s
wasting his money you can also say waste
time waste time or waste money on
something when you use it on unnecessary
or stupid things um good question
someone who’s that
Beatrice illa says throwing out money no
we don’t say throwing out money we say
only waste money you waste you waste
money on a new car that you don’t need
you waste money on sick side but why do
you need six iPads that’s stupid
that’s so silly and the last thing that
I wasted money on was maybe I mean I
guess hmm just drinking count I don’t
know if it does then I definitely wasted
money on drinking however it’s fun so I
don’t know if that counts mmm you be the
judge I don’t know um
what was the last thing you wasted money
on I’d like to know and you can waste
money on many many things you can waste
money on video games
well again yes but if you enjoy it is it
really wasting money this is a this is
an important question okay let’s hit the
next one you
walking down the street and someone is
they have a little tub and they to reach
enriching you give money to this charity
and it’s this one when they ask to give
money to charity and you give the money
to charity then what is that verb
donation good son gets got it donation
that is the noun the verb is to donate
yes to donate we’ve got it dead lips
here yeah there there we go to donate
money to something so donate money to
charity and this is a regular verb again
so donate donated donated doesn’t change
to donate money to someone or something
um who have you donated money to at the
last person or the last thing I donated
money to was I the last one was I think
it was cancer research yes it was the
people on the streets when you put your
money in the thing I donated money then
that was my last time and what did you
donate money to the last time donut you
donated money to cigarettes I don’t I
don’t think you can donate money to
cigarettes I am our infrared us I
donated money to homeless animals that
is so damn cute others that’s so lovely
if you donate money to animals then
you’re you’re a lovely lovely person and
you’re just a great person that that’s
that’s all
um okay someone says I never donate
money Wow’s are um I donated money to
myself you can’t do that Roberto I
donated money to homeless
London people Association oh that’s a
great one
oh that’s a great charity to donate to
good job well done you donate money to
the Red Cross absolutely that’s really
great okay next one let’s imagine that
you go to a new city and you don’t want
to walk everywhere
you want to ride a bike but you don’t
own a bike what are your options
well you can do this and you see this
guy and he says I’ll take my bag of ten
pounds one hour and you say pal okay
sure
then you give ten pounds and for one
hour you have that bike
Christopher pair is already in there
super super fast yes you can rent is
there another word for that do you know
any other words for rent there is
another one rent rent lease we wouldn’t
say lease a bike he could lease a house
though that that could work
let’s see higher wrens you got it well
done yes you can rent or hire a thing
for a short time rent a bike hire a bike
it’s the same um so yes to rent or
higher now both of them are regular
verbs so rented in the past hired in the
past hire for real says writer em yes
for real you can say rent or hire both
are okay and what was the last thing you
rented or hired the last thing I rented
was a bike in Korea which was like three
years ago Korea is an amazing place to
rent a bike to go along a river it’s so
so much fun and I recommend if you’re in
Korea and you want to have a ride on a
bike go to the Han River ride a bike you
can rent it it’s very cheap it’s like
four pounds or something ridiculously
cheap it’s amazing um oh yes no I’m
completely lying to you
I thought I would never lie to you
you’re special to me but I’ve just lied
to you yes I rented this flat and this
is not my flat but I paid money for one
month so I rented this flat um Maddie
you are also renting a flat good job
exactly
um I infra-red says I thought hiring is
only for jobs
well now you learned anything it can be
two things one when you take someone to
your company you hire them when I guess
it’s kind of the same thing you’re
paying money for something not forever
it’s the same thing so yes and if you
take someone to your to work in your
company you hire them same verb same
pronunciation same conjugation in past
but in this case we’re thinking about
and in the same context as renting
however I did not hire this apartment no
I rented this apartment rent can be for
thick like bikes things for a short time
and also houses apartments places you
live higher also the things that you
take for a short time but people in
companies as well so just be careful of
that difference um
edit said my cello was rent to own rent
to own I’m not oh is that where you you
rent the thing for a long time and after
a long time you just keep it is that how
that works I had a TV that was that do I
have a tattoo on my hand no I don’t I
went out to see some friends last night
and this was the stamp for their to the
puppy club’ place and it’s not a tattoo
it would be a rubbish tattoo if it was
so no I had the biggest one um is these
two these two lovely fellows
one well they both got money they both
got money but from different places one
got his money from working the other got
his money from a casino what other two
verbs with this situation with these
situations should I say ah Jorge Delgado
you got it straight away with earn and
win let’s have a look let’s have a look
oh it’s a bit small hey go there and and
win yes absolutely from your job you
earn money from a casino you win money
now in my lessons I in my English
classes I hear this mistake many many
times and people say I win money from my
job it’s not win money from my job you
earn money from your job so if you want
to say oh I got money from working you
earn it
this is a regular verb earn and earned
and win what’s the past of win what do
you think the past of win is one so win
1 1 earn earned and so just remember
that important difference this is a very
very common mistake I see them in my
English classes so just remember that
difference and you won’t make any
mistakes so think about what you want to
practice next let’s let’s take a few
questions and I’m going to get some
water I’ll be back in a few seconds
think about what do you want to learn
next
think about it ask it we will learn it
sublet
you’ve got money from a casino machine
travel vocabulary that can be fun yeah
really good
the difference between wage and salary
oh that’s a good one
oh yeah let’s have a look at that that’s
a hobbit okay so edge salary whoops
sorry
we go okay okay so where are we wage
this one your wage that’s how much money
you make you earn per hour so that’s
money per hour for example if you work
in a restaurant shop usually you earn a
wage your wage for example I used to
work in a Blockbuster Video
that was like the most fun job ever so
in in that job my wage was ten pounds an
hour something like that so that’s my
wage I don’t say something pounds an
hour is my salary no there we go my
salary that is how much money I make in
a month or a year so is usually you’re
contracted yearly salary so I I don’t
even know what’s a typical average
yearly salary over now and in London you
need a lot in London you need a big
salary to afford your rent for your
London apartment with ten other people
in the house because it’s crazy
expensive in London and yes salary total
amount of money per month or per year
doesn’t matter
so um which other questions let’s have a
look and because today I have to pack
because I’m leaving I’m leaving me look
today this is crazy three months and I’m
out of here
I’ve finished my time in New York I’m
how crazy is that
um I am Claire says what’s the
difference in pronunciation between
sawing as in you have some wood and you
want to cut
that sawing and sewing well sewing is
this one that is the same as s oh so
sewing that’s su w sa w sawing sawing
sawing sewing that’s the difference I
hope that helps you I am Claire and
Kanna
nice to see you Kara and business
vocabulary I guess you want to see
business vocabulary I have a video on
business vocabulary and but I am going
to make another one and rose.i says in
verses on also I have another one and
another video on that so you can find
that in the video library go and have a
look a medicine vocabulary I have a very
fun meddlesome vocab really listen and
Alessia go to my videos and type in
medical vocabulary you’ll find a very
fun lesson for that okay you take one
more question and then it’s time to
leave okay well this is a good one
animal Sharma says in subjunctive mood
should I say I wish it’d be sunny
tomorrow or I wish it were sunny
tomorrow the second one I wish it uh
well depends on the situation if you
know that the weather is not going to be
sunny tomorrow then say I wish it were
sunny tomorrow better yet I wish it were
going to be sunny tomorrow however if
you’re just thinking are sunny tomorrow
that’s good then you say hope not wish I
hope it is going to be sunny tomorrow
that’s that’s how we would say it
um how to swear properly it says that’s
great I’m jr. perfect hair I wish I am
let’s say what is a good expression to
say I don’t have money
oh that is a good question that is a
great question I’m gonna write it on the
screen for you and Wow yeah and say I’m
broke
um these basically you have a look see
that big there and well there think of
three ways this there we are this one
I’m broke that is the most common one
I’m broke I haven’t got any money and
broke can you lend me some money no I’m
sorry I’m broke I have no money
these two are not super super common and
they’re very very English I’m I’m skin
and it sounds very kind of a bit common
a bit London almost and do you have any
money now I’m skint mate sorry skin so
we pronounce it with that got salty as
well
I’m skin and also brass ik I hear that
sometimes not super often again it’s
very British but it’s really not common
to use so you don’t really have to use
it but you might hear it I’m brass ik
I’m skint those are not super common I’m
broke that’s the best one to say I don’t
have money cool
