student welcome back this week we’re
looking at the ten most difficult words
to pronounce if you’re an ESL learner
today I’m going to teach you how to kind
of cheat at saying them so you still
have the correct pronunciation but it’s
a little bit cheating the first word
asked like many regular verbs in the
past tense
ESL learners have problems with them
this is definitely no exception so asked
that’s the correct way to pronounce it
however usually you’d probably just hear
people say for example I asked him blah
blah listen again I asked him blah blah
now that doesn’t sound like I asked him
it sounds like I asked I asked him again
British English can be quite lazy so if
you pronounce it like I asked him it
basically sounds the same and that’ll be
easier for you to pronounce I asked him
over blah next one clothes oh my god
this one is ridiculous for non English
speakers to pronounce firstly mostly
because it’s got the sound which most
languages don’t have clothes clothes is
the correct way of saying it but if you
said this word clothes again in lays the
English it kind of sounds the same so
for example if you said I’m not wearing
any clothes I said I’m not wearing any
clothes but in general speech you won’t
hear people pronounce clothes you’ll
hear real British people say clothes
which is natural
again it’s got that th sound but this
time not boom but the correct way months
but how do you say easy way say this
word months if you say it a little bit
fast it sounds the same I’ve been here
for six months this one causes a lot of
problems how do we pronounce this you’ve
seen in earlier videos that the L can
sound like an L so first part of the
word Jule we could just say like Jule
what’s left
rhe jewelry you say jewelry Rena watch I
don’t know we’re in jewelry you try and
say it sausage sausage sausage sausage
yes a fun word to say next one is what I
am right now because this is very this
word come for table no comfortable take
out the middle we really only pronounce
it come table comfortable comfortable
comfortable the same with this word
vegetable we don’t say veg a table no
vegetable a comfortable vegetable ah
this next one’s pretty difficult
okay let’s try let’s break it down into
easy sections so lit trap shut
literature so this T would be like a
glottal T Lin TRO cha literature you try
literature then speed up literature what
did you study
I studied literature
the end finishes in cha the first
culture no it’s a cut culture culture
culture in London you’ll see many many
different cultures that makes two kind
of go together I always hear this
pronounced as sweet or sweet yes there’s
a nine there but we don’t pronounce the
I it just sounds like soot the same with
this one
