Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution round-up

hello lovely people mr. all over here
just doing an annual roundup of food
revolution and all things food an
activism on the site so obviously happy
holidays happy Christmas whatever you’re
celebrating I hope you have a wonderful
end to the year it’s been a really busy
year for the food revolution so I’m just
going to give you a little bits of the
highlights so the petitions going really
well we’ve got 771 thousand signatures
on our global petition you know to
basically make sure that we guarantee
proper food and food education for kids
at school we’ve got over 104,000
Facebook followers which is brilliant
fifteen thousand five hundred people
following the food revolution team on
Twitter and over 600 food revolution
community groups which is really
exciting because that represents over
17,000 people around America basically
stir in the pot asking for more
demanding more whether its food what’s
on the menu what the school can be doing
more stuff going on in the High Street
that they don’t believe in farming
practices so I’m really proud really
proud of those 600 community groups and
they’re all active and they’re getting
on with it so really chuffed with that
and some of the great stuff from 2011
well over 3,000 people texted come
Congress our bill got compromised
probably by about fifty percent it’s
still good but we’ve lost out and now in
America Pizza is considered a vegetable
which clearly mad and french fries are
as well our no potatoes are a vegetable
but french fries you know is it the fact
that they can have it as much as they
want limitlessly it’s kind of missing
the point so three thousand of you
texted Congress to really shake him up
even though it was a done deal it’s
important that we give them a slap
because this is just the beginning with
the food revolution we’ve got 1,000 milk
leaders these are people that have been
petitioning against flavored milk and
just just put that in context why we
upset about flavored milk it’s not just
the color ins and the additives it’s the
fat and there’s more sugar per 100 meals
in that then some of your most you know
famous pop or fizzy drinks in the
country
ridiculous and kids certainly don’t need
it twice a day over 2,000 people
completely the cooking course at
Huntington’s kitchen Huntington is a
town you’ve gotta respect them they’ve
really come together paper radio local
TV stations the communities fitness
groups kids elementary school high
schools there’s proper healthy food in
every single one of the 28 schools in
Cabell County the revolution is possible
it can make a difference you’ve just got
to get busy with it so flavored milks
corn dogs nuggets and all of that crap
have been banned from the LAUSD the
second biggest school district in
America and you know the reason we went
to LA just to remind you and the reason
we’re focusing on there is because LA
california is positioned to make great
change even though there has been some
bad stuff going on but also if you can
make change in LA you can make change in
any state in America so I think we’re
well positioned and John Daisy the new
superintendent has stuck to his word he
has not caved in to pressure and
complaints and all the kind of food
manufacturers so he is a big man he’s
being brave he’s not taking the easy
road and he’s beginning to kick ass so
therefore food revolution we love him we
love him let’s see what happens in the
next year stay strong brother stay
strong we’ve got over 700 people that
have been taught to cook a whole course
of cooking in LA on our big beautiful
truck that we raise money for and got
last year in the food revolution when we
got the TED Prize so that’s seven
hundred families and that’s not just one
recipe that’s a whole course old people
young people in some of the poorest
communities so it’s really starting to
make a difference and we absolutely
wanted to ramp up next year and
basically you guys knew people online
you’ve donated nearly seventy thousand
dollars and some of you have come from
different countries from different
states and we really appreciate that so
thank you very much next year looks
great we’ve got loads of things planned
and I’ll let you know about that in the
beginning of the new year
it but thank you thank you thank you and
remember it’s all about activists and
the food revolutionaries sticking
together spreading the word share in the
best of the best bits and spread in the
worst of the worst bits so thank you
very much really appreciate it from mr.
Oliver in London god bless you all
