Food Revolution Day Hero

you
my name is Amy wobbled and I were here
in lovely scottsdale arizona and i am so
proud and so honored to be a part of the
food revolution community working as an
ambassador I have two young children and
I always ate really healthy before I had
children and once I had them and we I
was exposed to the land of sugar that
you enter when you have children and I
just couldn’t believe it and and I felt
I felt like I was the only one that was
concerned about all the sugar and and
and then when I saw you know the jamie
oliver food revolution it was just like
it touched my heart and i felt like i
had an army of people i have so much fun
writing my blog which is called junk
food journal and i urge parents to track
the number of sweets that are going into
their child on a weekly basis when i was
concerned i brought it up to my
pediatrician at the time and she said
try to stay within a two to three treat
a week range and if you are on the go in
a very social family and you go to
birthday parties and all these events
you can easily you know double triple
that if you’re not careful and so I urge
parents to not only track it just a
mental no you don’t have to actually
have a journal and also just my
first-hand account of what I encounter
when I go through each day and how often
it is thrown it our faces and then so
that’s what I’ve been working on since
the inception of that in August so about
six months or so this you’re going to
focus on how to entertain for children’s
parties and stay focused on health and
not just you sugar as a crutch I think
we’re all more creative than that and
there’s simple things you can do like
for Valentine’s Day you don’t need a
sugar cookie with the pink frosting and
the red sprinkles you can do a
strawberry dipped in dark chocolate and
for Easter you don’t have to have a big
bag of you know jelly beans you can die
some Easter eggs just hard boiled eggs
and just little changes like that so
that’s what I’m going to focus on this
year and then for the big food
revolution day
and May seventeenth I’m working together
with Whole Foods they’ve been so
supportive and so cooperative and we’re
looking at donating kale smoothies also
made with fresh fruit to every child at
the lunch room in the cafeteria for food
revolution day at the local elementary
school and that’s almost 800 smoothies
that they’re looking to donate so kudos
to Whole Foods says awesome and then
we’re also looking at having some chef
demonstrations in some of the classrooms
so children maybe the older children can
they come home from school make
something for themselves that’s healthy
but but I also one more thing I’ve been
trying to push for about three years now
I wrote a character-driven picture book
series for children and it promotes
bringing your children in the kitchen
all the fun you can have in the funny
things they say and it’s really about
the funny things they say in the kitchen
entertaining and ways you can celebrate
that are fun healthy doesn’t have to be
boring there’s a lot of fun that you can
have and so I’ve been trying to find
illustrators and publishers and I really
believe in it and so also working for
that I joke in my blog that our school
mascot should be so the mom carrying a
big pink box of doughnuts walking into
the school because every time I’m in the
school that’s what I see um last this
past year my child’s teacher actually
told all the parents there’s a nut
allergy in the classroom so we’re
bringing birthday treats bring just
bring doughnuts and there are 28 kids in
the classroom and that’s 28 doughnuts in
nine months and my children I bought
doughnuts twice for in their life once
so they knew what they tasted like and
once that their first sleepover for all
the other children who might not like I
exert so I just found that astonishing
and appalling and so I like to say my
blood was boiling like the doughnuts
fine but um so I wrote a note to the
teacher and I just said you know there’s
a lot of things that are not free
stickers and sunglasses and tattoos and
you know fruit and a lot of different
things
