Alex James talks Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival

on my honeymoon I swapped a flat in
Covent Garden with a balcony for some
fields I didn’t really know what I was
doing but I’ve always liked cheese and
I’ve spent the last 10 years basically
turning a derelict intensive beef farm
into a sort of fire dynamic cheese
generator and I was just thinking
earlier the day that I arrived here got
the keys it was like a it was they was
derelict it was deserted a sort of
shipwreck of a farm that had founded and
ground to a halt it was completely
deserted and eerily empty and the idea
of having the world’s best chef and all
my favourite bands here for a
spectacular weekend in September is like
a beautiful end to a sort of love story
so I couldn’t be more thrilled really
it’s just brilliant
well there there there are lots of music
festivals every weekend there’s
something going on but I think this has
got some real authenticity and music and
food are the two things that I care
about the most I’ve got an amazing venue
here having Jamie involved just means
it’s easier to get absolutely top-notch
people involved as well so in both power
phone books together made some calls
you’ve got a stonking music line-up
cracking food line
you know the Sun comes out we’re all set
musically speaking on Saturday night
we’ve got Paloma Faith headlining we’ve
got gaz coombes and got the Noisettes we
got Sister Sledge we’ve got the
producers who are a knockout crack band
of musicians who’ve made an astonishing
number of brilliant records over the
years they were behind the Frankie Goes
to Hollywood Records them behind the
Grace Jones Records seal ABC immense
body of work and they play a lot of
their hits and it’s there they are an
astonishingly good band and when you’ve
got well-respected musicians like that
playing it’s easy to make a couple of
phone calls and get one or two special
guests involved so and then there may be
well there will be unique things
happening that you won’t see anywhere
else including the farm avid criminals
which I’m talking about Jamie or drums
you don’t to miss that now Sunday we’ve
got Texas raised the lights you know it
doesn’t it doesn’t stop this there’s
this new music there’s sort of old old
favorites and we’ve got Peppa Pig for
the kids well Jamie and I’ve got nine
kids between us so
keep them happy but it’s just I think
it’s just sort of trying to reflect our
perfect weekend I’m very happy to be
supporting Jaime’s foundation you know
I’ve been coming to the to the annual
dinners for some years I think the work
it does is brilliant and much needed in
informing people and hiring them
inspiring them to do great things
