I see many from the crowd of our
students who would find it easy to
relate with me and the last few weeks
were pretty hectic for me because of the
University Admissions and with so many
perfect scores of hundreds and cut-offs
barely descending below 90 my modest
eighty percent barely got me a
university of my choice by the way I’m
wanted to say that I’m really proud of
my 80 percent because I picked up my
book at least one month before the board
exams and yeah so I got admission in the
Mumbai University and it’s going to
start soon and I would like to tell you
the conditions of how I’m facing in
Mumbai so I have to travel to jam packed
trains everyday and it takes about one
hour for me to reach the college and
then one ought to go back and add to
this misery several coaching classes
competitive exams and many other things
all right so and like I told you about
the coaching classes again I have to go
back through the train again yeah so I
am my sister she’s also studying in
Mumbai and she’s staying in the South
Bombay where player wear properties are
to premium and she pays a hefty price to
live there and the college is like you
guys are having amazing campus we don’t
even have ground or for our activities
and all so you know it’s like the
conditions are you know absurd over
there and you know in the current
lifestyle of our there is a distinct
lack of nature all right which makes us
physically and emotionally weak you know
even as children we start playing
through with electronic gadgets and the
mobile phone from the starting instead
of the usual
toys let alone the outer sports so yeah
and I will tell you one incident about
myself I was about five six years old
and gone to a local health dispensary
for my polio drops and they went was
being televised and there were several
health officials and local politician as
well as the chief guest so I’ve got two
gulped up those drops and the local
politician asked me giving me candies
that which are your favorite games so
Pat came my reply contra and he was he
was like what my mother said video game
a and then everybody’s paused for some
time and then they started laughing
perhaps they were expecting for a usual
reply like football or cricket and but I
have to admit that video games later
helped me on when I hooked into I love
wildlife photography with Choctaw and
totally digital afterwards so I was
lucky enough that love for nature came
to me at an early age and I grew up in
my old ancestral house in Gwalior where
we had old fries and a large carton and
behind our back yard there was a huge
four large forest and there were several
animals which were also living in our
area and there were several occasional
excitements like you know vince rat
snake or the squirrel in our house or
when a toddy cat was found drunk and our
wine store isn’t it amusing the animals
getting drunk yeah and several migratory
cranes also used to fly above from a
house and which was like a complete
ecosystem bar we were like living in
middle of a forest with animals all
around so I would like you to introduce
some of the creatures who share the home
with me so this is a pair of rat snakes
love-making in front of my house
yes sorry for that yeah this is a
Russell’s Viper it’s a very poisonous
sink and it’s one of the most opponent
and Butthead luckily drain as some of
the squirrels were making sounds so I
just got to know that this guy was
sitting there and yeah so and this is a
response earth poor eating a squirrel
and you know both of the snakes in like
this is non poisonous and the other one
was poisonous but most of the time
people kill this snake as well because
they think that this is also poisonous
and this is a brown hole it is a rib and
you can see the heart-shaped markings on
the chest of the world and this is a
Collard scoffs all sitting always in
front of my house on a tree you can see
the ear tufts of the alonein and these
are yellow footed green pigeons they
roost together in winters too you know
great protection from heat and use the
warmth yeah so yeah but sadly much has
changed right now and most most of the
places have being turned into houses and
there is no forest left and cause no
longer how how will behind our house and
many birds stop calling so I have to
travel to far off places in search of
wildlife and to pursue my passion and
like roaming all around local roaming
all around the India this made me
realize that our country is having a
great natural diversity and also its
rapid deterioration which is like facing
mass extinctions of several species so I
mean no I’ve started photography for
like when I was nine or something so
this is me in the hi large eel it’s one
of the important bit lands of India and
I think 11 or
thing this is mean run off kuch in
Gujarat this is near the Pakistan India
border mass Laden Rajasthan I don’t know
why I’ve posted this image here I’m
resting on the are so free by this this
is the Horn of thin our golly one of the
largest sheet in the world it’s in the
shilling law in bingo me near the
pangong lake and you can see the pen
Gong range as well in the behind this is
me in not sick in the gold Madhuri dong
male kits I’m standing on the lake right
now it’s frozen yeah this is me in
chumba I’ve been going to that place
also yeah and this is the place where
basically I started in my started doing
photography it’s just back here and many
of the birds live here like the painted
Frank :
they all call during the rainy seasons
in there yeah so I mean as I said I’d
travel to several remote places so this
was in the in the Rajasthan border and
the third result and this is also there
this is a McQueen’s Buster hunted for by
the sheikhs and they from Pakistan
basically they come to India to hunt
these birds yeah this is the chanchan
more range in Ladakh and this is the
only place where you’ll find Tibetan
antelope with an argali and wild yak at
one place so it’s pretty amazing this is
a ten-mile ass in the challenge in the
valley so I’ve been to Komodo as well
these are the Komodo Islands famous for
its crystalline water and of course the
Komodo dragon is with these lizards are
huge I should say huge yeah so this is
in the Western Ghats
and in the normalized range and they you
can find several endemic species this is
the lion-tailed macaque and endangered
species which was found only in Western
Ghats
and you can see the animated version of
this in the latest jungle book movie as
well yeah so this is also an endemic
species it’s the red-throated bull bull
yeah so you can see so this is jumble
basically most of the time I spent doing
wildlife photography in here and it’s a
beautiful ecosystem in River Dinoco
system and this is photo of ten
Terrapins sharing the pouch with the
cormorant and this is the baby carrier a
crocodile this is a mugger crocodiles
over there yeah
so this is from Kyrgyzstan
sorry shot air Tosh reserved I was there
doing the monetary work for Snow Leopard
Trust for surveying the snow leopards no
you know population so that’s it’s a
beautiful place and it’s a remote place
as well so you can see the tent of the
mountains over there I’ve been to
Arunachal Pradesh as well this is the
indochina this is on the Indochina
border and the lush evergreen
high-altitude forests present there yeah
so I’ve been doing several or some
conservation work as well and this is me
doing the dolphin survey in Chambal
River and we do restocking and you know
a collection as well for the continuity
of the survival of the species so this
is all those things this is the hatchery
turtle hatchery over there so the total
hatch and then we ensure that these
remain alive over there so this is the
team of Kyrgyzstan as I told you earlier
we were setting camera traps and all
over there and this is me again doing
camera trap survey in Malaysia for
Millian Tigers and this is the
ecological biodiversity teaming and
watch will be worked on so I would like
to like focus um I would like to tell
you about this image this is the image
of creatin
bastards and you can see the almost 4%
of population in the picture only with
only 200 you know individuals left in
the wild this is a critically endangered
bird and this image was used in the
conservation campaign of conservation
India and they used promoted to
campaigns using this image and I would
also like you to know that earlier
before peacock was named as the National
Board of India earlier it was proposed
that great Indian bustard should be the
National Board of India with that plan
was scraped because people thought that
they’ll mispronounce the name like we
love great and and bastard as the
national bird so a few years back I
wonder BBC wildlife photographer of the
year and it’s one of the most
prestigious honors in our field and it
is an endearing image of her gharial
mother with hatchling exposure of the
opposite I thought that this image will
send an emotional appeal for its
conservation as this is also an entrance
oh and in critically endangered species
with 200 reading artists left in the
wild
yeah and I think human emotions have
perhaps more than anything helped in
saving wild and wildlife species and
tumble has always been especially dear
to my heart and not only because of this
image but because I’ve practically grown
up there and all my child knows has
penned in the river over there and which
one of the most purest rivers like use
in most of the rivers in our India you
cannot even bathe in it but in Samba you
can drink water through it I also have
an emotional connect with jumble as my
grandmother to whom I was quite attached
with died and we immersed her ashes in
the river keeping her wishes and some
days later I visited that place and a
beautiful scene unfolded before me there
was cordial swimming all over the river
dolphins river dolphins jumping out of
the river and a shoal of fish darted
through the clear water and few skimmers
when flew across the river and it was a
beautiful scene and the miracle flowers
which we are tossed aside on the
cremation day had taken root in the
moist Sun and i sat there contemplating
and thought that my grandmother has been
mixed with the surroundings over there
yeah so now I would like to show some
random pictures from a collection and so
this is a painted franklin and they call
in monsoons to attract their mates and
this is also the same species this is a
rain queen which is also exhibiting the
same behavior as I told you earlier this
is a Himalayan smoke I’ve taken this
image in spiti valley in Himachal
Pradesh it’s climbing up a snow ridge
and this is a blood pheasant so the name
because of the blood-red color over on
the face and the tail feathers and the
legs it’s the State Board of Sikkim you
should know yeah and this is a great
horn well I have taken this in the
western guards you know when this bird
flies you can almost hear the whoosh of
the sound of the wings and it’s a
beautiful bird and it’s really big this
is a young girl peeping through the
hedge so this is nilgiri tahr again and
endangered species I’ve taken this image
and no Wolper eye area and animal eyes
this is a male ibex and two male ibex Si
and they are having a blue tint in their
eyes it’s a beautiful animal and this
image I have taken in Kyrgyzstan and as
you can see there are some small
dots over there basically it’s the Tian
Shan or gali one of the largest ships in
the world with their horns curling
around in fairs which almost measures
around six feet in length over the curve
and these sheeps are being hunted by the
Westerners and many of them are paying
hefty prices for this and a goat goat
goat named as Mark or got sold for over
a crore of the hay trophy of that animal
this is a model stag have again taken in
cha Chun came in National Park and the
con the Kazakh Stan border who were they
and it’s a beautiful stag again hunted
for the trophies and they are like
attracted by imitating the calls and
they’re then come out of the forest and
then they are shot down
this is again in the Chongqing National
Park it’s the beautiful coniferous
forest over there so this is the Chuckle
and you can see it’s with the nine
babies I shouldn’t say oh yeah yeah game
in this is in the jungle and you can see
to carry all over there giving the mouse
you should see their slender snouts
which you can see clearly now this is a
layer of Lago Falcon over there on the
reminds of jumbo so this is Tibetan sand
rose it’s found in the north sikkim
region and some more Tibetan Plateau and
it’s beautiful and I took this
photograph at around 17,000 feet over
there this is again a green back tip
these are PI darcet’s and this is a
crested hawk eagle with a prey in it so
you know talons
it’s called crested hawk eagle because
of the crest you can see in this image
right now and this is a golden eagle
Krita stands so dying tradition
basically people hunt over there with
Falcons and eagles like this so it’s a
beautiful thing so yeah as I just stole
use as I just showed you some of the
pictures I’ve taken and like it’s
something that I do right now
and most of my classmates never did like
going out and wild and doing something
over there so I would like to point out
that youngsters who stay most of the
time windows and are quite detached from
the international surroundings are more
prone to depression and anxiety and and
adversity towards stress as well and
this results in several emotionally and
physically we go you know consequences
and you know our new generation is
getting wired to technology so much
right now that we are now not even we
are distrustful to our senses and even
detached with them I recently read an
interesting article in newspaper about a
taxi driver who navigates through GPS in
an air-conditioned car who almost feels
unfamiliar in this city yeah and and you
know we change we are so detached from
nature that we feel that we scarcely
feel the change of seasons and our Gertz
the break of dawn the musty smell of
Earth and all these things like from
break on break of dawn I remember one
thing like we were having a physics
pre-board and two days before me and my
son me and some of my friends decided to
do a nice day I mean thought will finish
the physics second book actually we
thought we only did two chapters that
night and those two if if I think there
are several physics students as well you
must be knowing that dual nature was the
smallest chapter of all the of that tank
dual nature and atoms so we managed to
finish that only and it was 5:30 and we
decided that we should keep a football
plan
and I told my friend to you know call or
call everyone so after some time he came
back and told me dude we have to cancel
the plan I said why and he told me that
it’s pretty dark and it’s going to rain
outside no I just shaped out and it was
out here and I am like why are you going
to cancel the plan it’s all completely
clear he said he’s never seen dawn until
now because of the nice day and yell and
few days before I just asked while
preparing for this stuff that what was
the reason behind that and he told me
it’s because of the pressure from
education and all that makes him way of
be awake late in the night and yeah this
is one of the reasons why we are like
facing several stress problems but not
in this case that can that guy plays
counter-strike all night now yeah so and
we are used to cacophony of noises in
the city so much that it takes the
tranquility of a forest to you know make
us feel silence again you know the
gurgle of a stream the chirping of birds
the rustle of leaves and the sound of
cicadas in a forest seems to enhance the
feeling of silence and even making it
palpable yeah so I was in I still cannot
forget the howling of wolves I’ve heard
in the desolation of Tian Shan Mountains
in Kyrgyzstan and and it was such a
haunting sound you know howling of
wolves I’ve never heard before and I’ve
almost you know I felt really scared at
that time you know it was just behind a
mounted a wolf over there and you know
it was such a haunting sound and the
silence which followed was so very
profound after that alienation from
nature has some serious implications not
to the not only to the younger
generation but to the earth itself
and with with you know technology you
know getting extra developed day by day
we really feel less we really feel less
to connect with nature again and once an
increase and as I said like we really
feel less to reconnect with nature and
I’m so sorry
she’s positive with my speech yeah so as
I told you about alienation from nature
some serious implications and and you
know even we tend to feel experienced
nature second hand like a modern-day
child is more likely to know about a
widely loved animal through Discovery
Channel than 2/3 see in its while
surroundings and you know like now we
have to you know develop a sense of
curiosity and a sense of wonder in him
so that he not only cares for nature but
also promotes the stewardship of the
National Board I just I just you know
noted one thing that I remain TEDx creep
starts with T and our ends also with T
and both parties are signifying
technology and Here I am standing in
front of you ranting about negative
aspects of technology for the last
couple of minutes so so yeah I have to
say in the end that in while emphasizing
the importance of the nature in our
day-to-day lives I do not mean to
diminish the importance of technology in
our lives
the in this Anthropocene era where
technology is making rapid strides for
and altering the world for better or for
worse there is a distinct lack of nature
and we should you know and get involved
in nature and and in them and I would
like to say that in this world in this
time in this
for this new generation we have to
balance the artificial with the natural
and the real with the virtual and we
have to balance this and the more nature
and the more high-tech we become the
more nature we need and in the end our
future outcome would depend only on our
actions and now I have to say like on
our positive actions on our negative
actions or basically on our in actions
thank you
[Applause]
I see many from the crowd of our

that youngsters who stay most of the
time windows and are quite detached from
the international surroundings are more
prone to depression and anxiety and and
adversity towards stress as well and
this results in several emotionally and
physically we go you know consequences
and you know our new generation is
getting wired to technology so much
right now that we are now not even we
are distrustful to our senses and even
detached with them I recently read an
interesting article in newspaper about a
taxi driver who navigates through GPS in
an air-conditioned car who almost feels
unfamiliar in this city yeah and and you
know we change we are so detached from
nature that we feel that we scarcely
feel the change of seasons and our Gertz
the break of dawn the musty smell of
Earth and all these things like from
break on break of dawn I remember one
thing like we were having a physics
pre-board and two days before me and my
son me and some of my friends decided to
do a nice day I mean thought will finish
the physics second book actually we
thought we only did two chapters that
night and those two if if I think there
are several physics students as well you
must be knowing that dual nature was the
smallest chapter of all the of that tank
dual nature and atoms so we managed to
finish that only and it was 5:30 and we
decided that we should keep a football
plan
and I told my friend to you know call or
call everyone so after some time he came
back and told me dude we have to cancel
the plan I said why and he told me that
it’s pretty dark and it’s going to rain
outside no I just shaped out and it was
out here and I am like why are you going
to cancel the plan it’s all completely
clear he said he’s never seen dawn until
now because of the nice day and yell and
few days before I just asked while
preparing for this stuff that what was
the reason behind that and he told me
it’s because of the pressure from
education and all that makes him way of
be awake late in the night and yeah this
is one of the reasons why we are like
facing several stress problems but not
in this case that can that guy plays
counter-strike all night now yeah so and
we are used to cacophony of noises in
the city so much that it takes the
tranquility of a forest to you know make
us feel silence again you know the
gurgle of a stream the chirping of birds
the rustle of leaves and the sound of
cicadas in a forest seems to enhance the
feeling of silence and even making it
palpable yeah so I was in I still cannot
forget the howling of wolves I’ve heard
in the desolation of Tian Shan Mountains
in Kyrgyzstan and and it was such a
haunting sound you know howling of
wolves I’ve never heard before and I’ve
almost you know I felt really scared at
that time you know it was just behind a
mounted a wolf over there and you know
it was such a haunting sound and the
silence which followed was so very
profound after that alienation from
nature has some serious implications not
to the not only to the younger
generation but to the earth itself
and with with you know technology you
know getting extra developed day by day
we really feel less we really feel less
to connect with nature again and once an
increase and as I said like we really
feel less to reconnect with nature and
I’m so sorry
she’s positive with my speech yeah so as
I told you about alienation from nature
some serious implications and and you
know even we tend to feel experienced
nature second hand like a modern-day
child is more likely to know about a
widely loved animal through Discovery
Channel than 2/3 see in its while
surroundings and you know like now we
have to you know develop a sense of
curiosity and a sense of wonder in him
so that he not only cares for nature but
also promotes the stewardship of the
National Board I just I just you know
noted one thing that I remain TEDx creep
starts with T and our ends also with T
and both parties are signifying
technology and Here I am standing in
front of you ranting about negative
aspects of technology for the last
couple of minutes so so yeah I have to
say in the end that in while emphasizing
the importance of the nature in our
day-to-day lives I do not mean to
diminish the importance of technology in
our lives
the in this Anthropocene era where
technology is making rapid strides for
and altering the world for better or for
worse there is a distinct lack of nature
and we should you know and get involved
in nature and and in them and I would
like to say that in this world in this
time in this
for this new generation we have to
balance the artificial with the natural
and the real with the virtual and we
have to balance this and the more nature
and the more high-tech we become the
more nature we need and in the end our
future outcome would depend only on our
actions and now I have to say like on
our positive actions on our negative
actions or basically on our in actions
thank you
