reasons you should be watching Atlanta
why else do you think I’d be here
before we begin we publish new videos
every day so be sure to subscribe for
more great content for this list we’re
taking a look at what made Atlanta a
breakout hit during its first season
leaving us all eager for more number 5
it’s experimental humor even the most
well-written sitcoms usually follow a
formula that becomes familiar over time
Atlanta on the other hand isn’t afraid
to try something a little different each
week keeping the audience on their toes
just trying to get paid you’re filming
like why do you think I’m on this show
you’re not getting paid for this perhaps
the most ambitious episode thus far is
the emmy-winning ba in and out of shower
experience that satirizes talk shows
contrasting views on the transgender
community and the portrayal of
african-americans it is hidden I’m
waiting the series is full of surreal
humor while also being smart timely and
provocative for example how many shows
would cast a black man in the role of
Justin Bieber cool while the writers
don’t necessarily try to make you laugh
every single minute they always make you
think number four it’s critically
acclaimed and won several awards why
Atlanta proved to be a critical success
with season 1 earning a 100 percent
approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes I
mean it’s really okay great the American
Film Institute named Atlanta one of the
top 10 television programs of 2016 and
it appeared on countless other year-end
lists as well at the 74th Golden Globes
Donald Glover picked up a Best Actor
Award while the show itself also won
Best television series Musical or Comedy
the show continued to ride the awards
train to the Primetime Emmys where it
was nominated for Outstanding Comedy
Series
while Atlanta didn’t win that prize
Glover took home two statuettes for
outstanding directing and Outstanding
Lead Actor in a comedy series ain’t that
a peach number three it has an awesome
soundtrack since the premise revolves
around a rapper and his cousin it
shouldn’t come as a surprise that
Atlanta features some exceptional music
episodes typically open and close with a
different song showcasing rappers like
OJ da juiceman Yo Gotti and Kodak black
as well as soul singers like Michael
Kiwanuka and Billy Paul Donald Glover
also incorporates some of his original
music which is only fitting given his
successes childish gambino musical
highlights include the Justin Bieber
send up forget about it and of course
paperboy which will never leave your
head after hearing it
[Music]
the soundtrack supplies Atlanta with
another level of atmosphere giving the
audience a taste of the city’s hip-hop
scene number two it’s full of relevant
themes and issues although this series
largely focuses on rap it’s about so
much more
Atlanta frequently touches on relevant
issues ranging from racial
discrimination to drug-related violence
to the struggles the working class
regularly face sometimes the show
tackles these themes in a way that’s
deep poignant and challenging other
times it’s a wackier approach like with
a cartoon wolf who endures police
brutality for trying to steal some
cereal yo-you sitting on his bed he was
trying to steal your cereal right either
way it never fails to leave a lasting
impact on viewers even when Atlanta is
that it’s goofiest its commentary feels
all too real in an era where racism
appears to be on the rise this is a show
audiences truly need right now number
one it’s got Donald Glover Atlanta
features several star making
performances by Brian Tyree Henry saucy
beats and most notably with Keith
Stanfield as the scene-stealing Darius
however the show’s success can primarily
be attributed to its leading man and
creator Donald Glover anybody who
watched Glover as Troy Barnes on
community knows he’s hilarious in
Atlanta though Glover demonstrates his
incredible range as a comedian a
dramatic actor a musical artist a writer
a director and an all-around talented
guy
you’re awesome thank you for for being
awesome the future certainly seems
bright for Glover as he not only has
season two of Atlanta on the horizon but
also major roles in solo a Star Wars
story and the Lion King remake how does
he do it all Hey look ya’ll have a
breakup that’d be weird yeah
