ashcan Carver’s version joins me to
discuss the length of our videos hey
mojo holics welcome to watchmojo ask you

how are you I’m all right so last week
we touched on possible regional and
language specialists as well as the
campus ambassador program and many of
you guys reached out to us with the with
some interest so thank you for that now
this week we are going to cover
something else that we’ve been wondering
about and that is the length of our
clips now ash how often does this come
up it has come up quite a bit but I
would say it’s more of a comment usually
than a straight up question we usually
see some folks chiming in in the
comments saying you know your videos are
a bit longer than they used to be
another say you know you didn’t really
cover this topic or that topic you’re
just skimming it make them a bit longer
right so for context back in the day our
top 10s ran between like five to seven
minutes and then many of you like you
said called us out for like missing
something or we’d admit a fact or
whatever so the lists crept up to about
ten minutes which is actually less than
a minute per entry which isn’t all that
much when you consider the other that
there’s also an intro on an outro and
then at some point you guys wanted
honorable mentions and we added those
and that pushed I would say the length
of the movie top ten lists at 11 to 15
minutes I think some of our video games
are still below 10 minutes and the music
one’s kind of fall on either side of the
fence right so now if they’re about 11
or 14 minutes and so that means that
some of you want us to make shorter
clips and actually there are those who
actually ask for longer meteor clips as
well right so would you say it’s like
5050 no it’s not 5050 but the data could
be read in two ways because last year we
ran a survey when we had a quarter
million subscribers and we I don’t want
to say we goofed but we basically goofed
in the way we ask the questions and
broke up the options we said do you want
the clips of eat less than five minutes
five minutes
five to 10 minutes or 11 to 15 in
hindsight there should have been an
option ten minutes so now we’ve added
five million subscribers we’re at 5.3
5.2 5.3 million subscribers so we just
thought it’s high time to turn the
tables nasta Mulder holics how long our
videos should be so we are wondering
where our top 10 lists should end up
five to nine minutes 10 minutes 11 to 15
minutes so let us know in the poll below
please now is there a trade-off like if
our clips are twenty-five percent less
long could we make twenty-five percent
more videos I’m gonna say no as much as
everybody would want that to be the case
uh it’s actually a lot harder to say the
same information in fewer words that’s
true cuz I go on and on and on because I
can’t keep it shortens yeah friend no
comment um so I’m curious like how long
do you think our video should be okay so
i can look at this two ways as someone
who works here and has to make these
videos or as a viewer so as a viewer if
I see a video that’s super long and you
know i’m at work and i might not have
time to watch it or whatever so shorter
is better perhaps however as someone who
works here like I said it’s harder to do
it first of all but secondly you know
the first things to go when you’re
trying to cut down on the fat are the
jokes and the personality so it’s just
gonna be very like dry actual actual
exactly and it’s just like the the only
dis stuff you one hundred percent need
which I don’t know to me does not make
for the most entertaining clips so I am
biased towards longer the better I don’t
want to buy see you guys but I am longer
better yeah I don’t think that’s so much
I want to influence you guys but we
don’t want to just throw up a question
without giving you guys sort of both
sides of the argument and i’m not saying
it’s going to be a democratic process
where like whatever the majority wants
we do but we are very much driven by
what you guys want that’s you know a lot
of businesses exploit inconvenience
think of like a mall you take an
escalator the other escalator to go up
another flight is not right next to it
you may make you go around to see the
stores you never even realized well
that’s why they do it so in our case you
know we don’t as i always elude we don’t
put items 10 through 6 on youtube and
draw you to watch Bonjour
for five to one we think that would be
horrible douchebag behavior we don’t
even really split up 10 to six and five
and one and put them both on youtube
because we think you guys are in a zone
you don’t really want us to break the
clip up into two do you although that
would make two shorter clips um so yeah
what do you know so i actually think as
a viewer because that’s how i usually
make the decision I think it’s sometimes
easy to think of it as I like you know
the manager but I think as a viewer if
I’m a die-hard ozzy osbourne fan I want
a 15-minute video I don’t want a
five-minute video but at the same time
if I’m check my subscription and in my
inbox there’s a topic that I’m just kind
of like curious about asking you to sit
through a 15-minute video is a much
bigger ask than a 5-minute video so my
gut says the right number for us is
probably 10 minutes for our core top 10
lists but doing more videos that are
maybe five seven eight minutes and mix
it up like that but again we don’t want
to influence you or bias you in any way
we want you guys to see both sides of it
we’re not maniacal we’ve always made
decisions based on what you guys want so
