Social Warming | Laila Kwon | TEDxYouth@AEL

oh sorry I forgot to turn my phone off

excuse me I apologize for that loud not

noise that created the students and

maybe fear how did you feel after that

sound did you feel fear disturb well I’m

standing here to talk about something

that might feel a little bit uneasy but

first I want to ask your question how

many of you care about global warming

well everybody seems to care about

global warming

how greenhouse gases are causing changes

in the global climate but there’s

another warming that we do not but

should take into account social warming

social warming includes media disputes

and violence originated by various

factors such as the imposition of power

fear rejection or even the belief that

we deserve more than others social

change like climate change does not

happen overnight and has devastating

consequences so first I would like to

define social warming as a triple I

symptoms are increases in our society

first intolerance the unwillingness to

respect and tolerate other people’s

opinions second indifferent lack of

concern and sympathy third isolation the

complete or partial separation from

other people

I believe the society so focused on

their individual goals and concern about

their own world that they do not take

into account where it’s happening around

ah racism tourism is increasing day by

day and apparently there’s nothing to

stop this we believe that the only way

to confront this violence is put more

violence but fighting fire with fire

just creates more fire right the

ceaseless fight between forces does not

lead into resolution but into

instruction this has been going on for a

long time let’s take as an example the

atomic bomb of hiroshima nagasaki the

bomb aimed to end a war but also

destroyed the lives of millions now i’m

going to take a guess here i bet most of

you are thinking about nuclear weapons

juarez and other international issues

happening social warming doesn’t clear

all this but it can be seen anywhere for

example a small as small fight between

neighbors in the corner of the street

bullying at schools and something so

widespread such as cyber bullying

according to the National Crime

Prevention 43% of teens ages 13 to 17

report being a victim of cyberbullying

15 percent were left scared 50 percent

felt angry and nearly 30 percent wanted

to seek retribution against this cyber

bully there are various examples of

technology being the cost of the social

worming while updating us and renovating

us with information it is also

destroying our souls we live in a world

where phones viber more than hearts do I

see a little kid sitting next to each

other playing with their phones and

tablets instead of playing with each

other something that was created to

connect us is actually disconnecting us

this is a clear example of something

that was created for the good of people

has turned into something harmful

research gathered by the International

Centre for medium publication the ask a

thousand students in 10 countries on

five different continents to quit using

technology for just one day when the day

was over the researchers asked some

questions and here’s what the students

said first a lot of students use the

term addiction while referring to their

dependence to technology most students

felt failed to plug for even one day

students said the technology was an

extension of themselves and others said

that they felt lost and lonely when the

screens were taking away from them this

is how extreme the situation has become

social warming increases degree by

degree every hour every second every

single moment this is less fight between

forces does not let this is not stopping

so I’m going to I want to be clear in

something I am NOT standing here to

criticize our society but to create

awareness of the social situation we’re

in presence of as a consequence of

social warming we do not think correctly

and we don’t improve we need to cool

ourselves down some degrees in order to

think correctly so instead of looking at

a triple eye symptom we should look at a

fdh approach we should forgive and ask

for forgiveness not act as intolerant

people we should think and care about

others not isolate ourselves and we

should help and collaborate with others

not act with indifference I know this

might be hard to implement but I believe

in this way we’re going to make some

degrees lower from social warming in

this way we’re going to make the noise

fade away and crease peace thank you [Applause]
