WHAT IF THIS WAS THE LAST DAY OF YOUR LIFE? AMAZING MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH

if I told you this was the last Monday
morning of your life what if I told you
you died this week would you complain
about your crap job or that test you
don’t want to take I doubt it you would
go much higher level thinking well
that’s really what it takes it takes
understanding that if you’re not pumped
right now if you’re begrudging what
you’re about to do it here if you’re not
looking forward to it look I respect
practicality you got to go through
school because your parents want to you
got to pay your rent you got student
loans I get it but please recognize the
world we’re living in we’re living in a
world where there’s so much more
opportunity this internet thing created
way more opportunity for all of us way
more I mean look you only not even be
alive like your mom and dad could’ve had
sex like three minutes later and you
wouldn’t even exist and you’re
complaining you could’ve ended up being
a bus a tree I just don’t get the
mentality of being head down sad on a
Monday morning I’m gonna make Monday
morning my I’m gonna make you Saturday
Monday morning that’s what I want to do
every morning and that’s what I want
from you please take a step back and
think about how awesome it actually is
and then recognize that you can attack
the world in a totally different way
because you were lucky enough to be born
during this era lot of you feel stuck
because you’re waiting for some kind of
external force to either push you and
pressure you to change and to be great
and to be amazing or you’re waiting for
somebody to give you permission you’re
either sitting back because you need
some sort of external motivation from
somebody that’s gonna push you or praise
you or pressure you in order to change
or some life circumstance like maybe in
your past you’ve experienced trauma or
you face something really scary and that
was the thing that made you change and
then the second thing that people wait
around for is permission look those may
or may not come in your life if you are
somebody that is sitting around waiting
for some external force to come and do
the work for you that is such a losing
bet it’s on
believable maybe you’ll get lucky maybe
somebody will come but more than likely
no one is coming
the only kind of force that will truly
create change in your life is you the
internal kind of force I hate to say it
but for those of you that feel really
really stuck and you keep thinking that
somebody’s got to pick me or somebody’s
gonna discover me or somebody’s got to
give me permission to write this book
it’s it’s ridiculous this is external
versus internal force and what you have
to figure out if you’re stuck is are you
the kind of person that is guilty of
needing wanting and waiting for external
forces people an event some outside
force to kick you in the ass so that
you’ll finally do the stuff that you’ve
been dreaming about doing I want to tell
you something no one’s coming no one the
people in life that get what they want
are the ones that aren’t waiting for an
external force to validate their dreams
to inspire them to give them permission
it’s the people that realize that
success but happiness that control it
comes from the internal force and what
is the internal force it’s you it’s you
it’s you being able to realize that no
one’s going to do the work for you it’s
you realizing that you’re never gonna
feel ready
in fact even as you start working toward
the things that you really want to do
you’re definitely not going to feel
ready and you’re gonna feel outside your
comfort zone and that’s normal when you
start to feel like you’re stretching
yourself and you’re sticking your
scrawny neck out there and you’re taking
some risks that’s amazing cuz you’re
growing
[Music]
the oldest thing is the games were trade
straight away I was no different
soon as they I finished kill absorbs
getting pestered what are you doing with
your life you know this still not and
they didn’t know what it was they didn’t
know MMA was didn’t know what this
didn’t know it could make a career as
far as they were consent me mind I’m
talking about as far as they were
concerned I’m just getting into a cage
or fighting with some other guy they
didn’t know nothing about it
no one did really but I knew and I mean
I knew but there and then I got it I end
up getting a trade just to keep them
quiet cuz I had a lot of fights with me
dial-up my trade did you get I end up
getting a trade as a plumber and
literally open the back eyes and I wear
up and we cloak the Wicklow Mountains
I’m feeling about that but sight was one
of the biggest sites in Europe kill
Tiernan was right at that ski in place
huge and now it’s just abandoned now
it’s just deserted so I used to go up
there six o’clock folks five o’clock
Romano’s on that m50 I just have to walk
to the end for about half an hour from
your hell was way for some memory card I
didn’t even know he drove on the m4 and
I had to flag him down nightmare yeah
two hours down on the m-52 hours by
usually 14-hour days and I was there I
was the first year so I was the I had to
go and do everything like to go to the
shop I’d to go and get this and get that
so I always had trouble that I was like
this isn’t for me this is not for me how
long did you last I lasted 18 18 months
stealing well it was tough you know just
it wasn’t wasn’t the life for me and I’m
and then and then John said because I
was training with jhana as well at the
time and then John got on Twitter says
there I have a show on the show would
like to fight honey and then that was he
I just packed it in didn’t show up weed
I used to come in and punch the head on
me and like try and drag me out of bed
and I just wouldn’t go and I hadn’t opal
or for a good few years when I’m over
ball and and that was it I just packed
it in quit and then focused on training
and that’s I knew I knew I knew what was
gonna happen I knew I was gonna get here
they didn’t there’s a lot of stressful
years I want to recommend that you take
just one hour a day five days a week and
devote this hour to exercising your mind
pick one hour a day on which you can
fairly regularly count
and during this hour every day take a
completely blank sheet of paper at the
top of the page write your present
primary goal clearly simply then since
our future depends upon the way in which
we handle our work write down as many
ideas as you can for improving that
which you now do try to think of 20
possible ways in which the activity that
fills your day can be improved you won’t
always get 20 but even one ideas good
now remember two important points with
regard to this one this is not
particularly easy and to most of your
ideas won’t be any good and when I say
it’s not easy I mean it’s like starting
anything you have it at first you’ll
find your mind a little reluctant to be
hauled up and out of the old familiar
but as you think about your work and
ways in which it might be improved write
down every idea that pops into your mind
no matter how absurd it might seem let
me tell you what will happen some of
your ideas will be good and worth
testing the most important thing this X
tower accomplishes however is that it
deeply embeds your goal in your
subconscious minds that’s the whole
vital machinery working and 20 ideas a
day if you can come up with that many
total 100 a week even if you don’t think
on weekends an hour a day five days a
week totals 260 hours a year and still
leaves you three thousand seven hundred
and forty hours of free leisure time and
this means you’ll be thinking about your
goal and ways of improving our
performance increasing your service six
and I have four extra working weeks a
year six and a half 40-hour weeks
devoted to thinking and planning can you
see how easy it is to rise above the
so-called competition and will still
leave you with fifteen hours a day this
spending please starting each day
thinking you’ll find that your mind will
continue to work all day long you’ll
find that at odd moments when you least
expected reading great ideas will begin
to pop into your mind and when they do
write them down as soon as you can just
one great idea can completely
revolutionize your work and as a result
you’re chasing your dream and when
you’re when you’re walking hard chasing
something you love and I’m completely
dedicated it just it just happens you
don’t you know you can’t really note
notice it you know even still to this
day I’m in an amazing position in my
life but I’m still I’m still working
like I’m not I’m still working like I’m
not in this position absolutely I’m
still working like none of this is even
you know I mean yeah yeah it’s just it’s
just something I love to do and I just
keep pushing I keep working hard I can’t
pinpoint an exact moment for you but yep
if anything I always felt like it was
happening way back then and now it is
happening but now I almost feel like
it’s not happening anymore and more
intrigued by mindset because I used to
think of it as fluffy like self-help and
now I think it more as strategy what’s
your strategy in life somebody asked me
on Instagram after I posted a scary if
the mindset has been skewed how can you
bring it back and I answered with by
surrounding yourself with people who
have the mindset you aspire to my
friends please understand that mindset
is controllable
in the same way that all our opinions
are controllable the key is to add more
people with optimism and cut people with
negativity it’s very very simple now
it’s very hard to cut people with
pessimism cynicism and negativity when
they are the people that are the closest
to you parents siblings spouse but the
bottom line is if you’re asking the
question I’m gonna give you the answer
the answer is add more people with
positivity and optimism and cut people
with pessimism and cynicism who you
surround yourself matters what content
you consume matters I basically
suffocate myself for a long period of my
time and created an environment that was
based on offense and optimism and now I
know no different please do the same for
you make that move mold and I mean mold
your mindset by what you consume and
with whom you consume it
you gotta have a plan everybody’s got a
dream
everybody’s got a goal what’s the plan
and your plan has got to have something
I call the c5 complex your plan has got
to be clear concise compelling
consistent and committed you’ve got to
have a plan and when you’re trying to do
something that you are truly passionate
about there is no plan B okay Plan B
okay so it’s as simple as that you gotta
have a plan I mean think about that for
a second mm three examples Michael
Jordan won six NBA championships with
the Chicago Bulls because he was
committed to plan a not plan B Oprah
Winfrey became the queen of all media
because he was committed to plan a not
Plan B whatever your politics are Barack
Obama is sitting in the White House
because he was committed to plan a not
there’s parents coming in with their
kids from like the height bring them
into the gym Amanda but I saw it
encouraging that’s never like that
that’s gonna go to a next level when you
have the parents encouraging the dream
and regardless of people again people
can say it’s barbaric and martial arts
is barbaric or this game is too it’s too
much be anonymous two men beating each
other or whatever the martial arts life
will give you a discipline will give you
dedication will give you a drive that
you won’t get nowhere else so whatever
these kids that come in that size with
our parents whatever they decide to do
where they decide to conquer the martial
arts world the fighting game or whether
they want to go and conquer the business
world whatever they decide to do
training for combat sport training
martial arts will give them that
confidence to go and excel on anything
so people can can criticize the better
all they want but the results speak for
themselves and seeing these little kids
come in this size it’s it’s good times
notice I said simple I didn’t say easy
and the reason why it’s not easy is
because you have to deal with you and
now we know that you’re a control freak
and you’re stubborn and you got all
these excuses you’re a real pain and I’m
gonna teach you though the very very
simple way to get what you want there’s
only one rule when it comes to
productivity there’s only one rule when
it comes to success
there’s only run rule to getting
everything you’ve ever wanted and here
it is you’re never gonna feel like it
ever in any area of your life that you
don’t have what you want whether it’s
the amount of money the amount of people
on your team the amount of sales the
amount of trips for your family the reef
you only did the things that you don’t
feel like doing you’d have everything
you’ve ever wanted those areas where
you’re happy you do the work those areas
where you’re complaining you don’t feel
like it you don’t do it so it’s a lot
like kids if you think about it what’s
your job as a parent it’s to make kids
do the things I don’t feel like doing so
they can grow up and move out and become
independent adults my son never feels
like getting off the DS he never feels
like putting his feet down when he’s
caught in the car my daughter never
feels like cleaning up the Barbies I
have no idea why they’re always naked by
the way always naked and the funny thing
is when you grew up and moved out your
parents never said to you guess what you
are a total pain in the rear end you
never feel like doing anything you don’t
feel like doing your homework you don’t
feel like going out you don’t feel like
making your bed you don’t feel like
saying hello to strangers you don’t feel
like using your manners you don’t feel
like cleaning your room good luck to you
so the only way to get what you want is
to pair it yourself
but I’m gonna make it easy for you we’re
about to move you’ve learned a ton about
the brain now the brain is gonna screw
you over the brain is gonna go into
autopilot the brain is going to tell you
it doesn’t feel like doing things that’s
trickery you now know that so how do you
be effective with yourself knowing that
you’re never gonna feel like doing all
the work that it takes to have this
business be everything that it possibly
could so you’re gonna use the
five-second rule and what that means is
this
[Music]
from the moment that you have the idea I
should email out the Fall collection I
should go through the contact list for
my college or university and reach out
to people I should go through my contact
lists and invite 23 people this week to
just take the dogs for a walk I should
make a request of a friend and ask if I
can come to a presentation at lunch at
his law firm from the second you have
that idea you’ve only got five seconds
to take action otherwise it’s gone your
brain will swoop in so fast me uh-oh
there’s an idea whoa no way
no wait you don’t feel like it you’re
overwhelmed you Aaron you’ve got five
seconds and that’s it
today I want you to practice this
because what you’re gonna notice is
you’re gonna notice a little bit later
like in the networking section and you
know afterwards and in some of these
events after this particular speech
you’re gonna notice that you have an
impulse you have an impulse to walk
towards somebody that’s really
successful that’s built a team that
could possibly help you and guess what
you’re not gonna do it you’ve probably
had them the entire time that you’ve
been here oh I should go over and talk
to this person hey I’ll catch them later
oh that person looks really interesting
I I don’t know I should really take some
photos of this fall line and start to
age that might be too pushy so what do
you do how does it work you have the
thought you’ve got five seconds that’s
it and what do you need to do just say
something out loud that’s one way you
could start walking the second you feel
like you should meet somebody because
you’re drawn to them again it’s from
here it’s not from here start walking
because if you’re already walking the
likelihood is you’ll actually make it to
them and then you’re gonna say something
write it down schedule it send an email
to yourself or make the request one of
the things that was so interesting about
talking to Tara this morning is it was
clear that a couple people had been in
there sharing their brains out about Jay
Hilbert and yet it never progressed into
the side of the conversation of would
you like information would you like to
do it
and I’m sure whoever it was it was lying
on the table probably had that thought
like you know I should probably say
something should I getting a facial it’s
that weird to be talking about business
at the same time five seconds gone
must have one big goal I give a goal
setting exercise all over the world that
is life-changing I go back a year later
or two years later or three years later
and I have thousands of people come up
to me almost like us a guru or a sage
and they say you changed my life you
made me rich and I said it was the goals
wasn’t it and they said it yes it was
the goals how did you know and what I
teaches this is take a piece of paper
make a list of ten goals that you’d like
to achieve in the next 12 months
these are one-year goals now sometimes
I’ll have a one-day on one week one
month three months six months but
they’re all goals that you want to
accomplish within 12 months then you
look over this list and you say if I
could wave a magic wand and achieve any
one goal on this list within 24 hours
which one goal would have the greatest
positive impact on my life and then you
look at your list of ten and the answer
will jump out at you and that becomes
your major definite purpose this becomes
your major goal then you transfer this
to a clean sheet of paper and you write
a deadline when you want to achieve this
goal you make a list of everything that
you can think of that you could do to
achieve this goal you then organize this
list like a checklist in order of
sequence what do you do first what do
you do second what do you do third and
then you take action on your goal and
then you do something on that goal every
day seven days a week it’s a very simple
system decide the most important goal
write it down
make a plan work on it every day and
then all of your other goals will start
to move forward you’ll start to make
progress on the big goal but all the
other goals will start to move forward
almost without you even paying attention
to them so that’s really the key to
success is single focus Warren Buffett
and Bill Gates were at a dinner party
with Bill Gates father and a large
number of other people at Bill Gates
home in Seattle last year and they were
chatting with each other they’re very
good friends and somebody came up to
them and said excuse me gentlemen I mean
to interrupt you but you’re three of the
most important was successful people in
the world Bill Gates and Warren
buffer number one number two wealthiest
man in the world what would you say is
the most important ingredient for
success and they all stopped broke off
their conversation and all turned
simultaneously and looked at the man and
said focus focus is the most important
quality for success if you can focus you
can do anything if you can’t focus you
must always work for someone else who
will make you focus now wonderfully
enough focusing is like learning how to
ride a bicycle or type with a keyboard
it’s a learn about school you can learn
to focus by practicing focus until it
becomes automatic one of my favorite
quotes is from good said the German
philosopher and he said everything is
hard before it’s easy so the formation
of any new habit is hard before it’s
easy you have to keep working at it
it’s just like a bicycle you keep
falling down you have to keep getting
back up again until finally it becomes
easier and easier and soon it becomes
automatic and when you automatically get
up each day plan your day and work on
your most important goal your whole life
find what you’re looking for I’ve been
giving a lot of thought to kind of just
watching what I’m seeing out there in
the social digital ecosystem and very
honestly just real life and I’m watching
so many people over the last two to
three years look for negativity look for
something that’s wrong
find where people disagree with them
fight look for what was me downside to
half glass empty and and then I go to a
Twitter search or look around the world
and I find ridiculously beautiful things
every day every day thousands of kind
acts randomly by people all people that
I have conversations with who see the
opportunities whether it’s in business
like voice and AR
or whatever it may be just this
amazingly interesting thing that I feel
the majority of you are looking for the
wrong while there’s a plenty of wrong
and plenty of right in the world it
comes down to one very simple thing what
are you choosing to look for because I
promise you if you right now and I’m
making this video for one reason 24
hours of trying to find the good
somebody saves a kid somebody opens the
door somebody does a nice thing for you
bit somebody says thank you 24 hours of
looking for positivity could change your
life honestly making this for one person
one one person watches this video
chooses to do 24 hours of looking for
good instead of looking for bad and
their game changes d-roc heard somebody
at a convenience store saying mom you’re
always so negative you’re always so
negative I am blown away by the fact
that life gets real simple if you break
down into this are you looking for the
negative this sucks this government
sucks this person sucks this is or are
you looking for the positive she’s nice
that’s remarkable I’ve got this
opportunity you choose what you’re
looking for because what you look for
you find that’s how life works but 20
years ago in the movies rules are very
clearly defined they provided the
security of your stardom in a sense if
you’d been successfully playing an angry
young man you’d pretty much be angry and
young
the rest of your life if you’ve been a
police inspector in three movies odds
were you’d be in the next 33 – they
supplied two female actresses also wives
or wives seductresses were seductresses
mother-in-law’s were mother-in-law’s and
so on and so forth
few actors would have willingly switched
from romantic heroes to obsessively
violence lovers I took the leap
not because I was particularly brave but
because a very dear director friend of
mine sat me down and told me I was
extremely ugly and being ugly
necessarily meant I know now I know and
being ugly necessarily meant I do bad
guy roles I wasn’t the romantic hero
types he said actually he used the words
that my face was not chocolaty enough so
I started to eat a lot of chocolate and
while waiting for it to take effect I
jumped into bad guy roles there means
fair in Hindi and everyone always tells
you at speeches like this that you ought
to be brave so I’m not going to bore you
with that idea instead let me tell you
this being brave means being scared all
the way to the party yeah I’m sorry if
that word is being very scared all the
way to the party but getting there but
getting there all the same and doing the
Funky Chicken in front of all your
teenage kids friends anyway let me just
add or not behalf of all the fathers of
the world who have embarrassed the kids
by doing this it takes a lot of bravery
resolve and grit to do it so just do it
don’t let your fears become boxes that
enclose you open them out feel them and
turn them into the greatest courage you
are capable of I promise you nothing
will go wrong
but if you live by your fears everything
that can pass possibly go wrong will go
wrong
and you won’t even have done the funky
turtle I’m inspired YouTube we’re gonna
make this the episode thing you’ll get
whatever you want toddler but this is
the Corvette
you just saw it on stage just you just
saw it on stage dying on your sword is
better than dying on someone else’s so
many of you are doing things making
decisions and navigating your lives
based on somebody else’s thesis you’re
doing it because you think it’s the
right thing because your dad’s telling
you it’s the right thing you’re doing
what you’re doing right now because
you’re pandering to your boss even
though you don’t believe in it get
something you never had you have to do
something you never did les Brown’s the
motivational speaker you made an analogy
about this he says imagine you’re on
your deathbed and standing around your
deathbed are the ghosts representing
your unfulfilled potential the ghosts of
the ideas you never acted on the ghosts
of the talents you didn’t use and
they’re standing around your bed angry
disappointed and upset they say we came
to you because you could have brought us
to life they say and now we have to go
to the grave together so I ask you today
how many ghosts are gonna be around your
bed when your time comes you need to bet
on your strengths and don’t give a
about what you suck at you’re gonna way
too many people in this room are gonna
spend the next 30 40 years of their
lives trying to check the boxes other
things that they’re not as good at and
that you’re gonna waste a load of time
and lose I highly recommend auditing
yourself or if you have no empathy or EQ
or self-awareness then find somebody in
your family or friendship that does and
let them tell you who you are and once
you believe that either for yourself or
someone else told you go directly all
chips all into that because that is the
only possible way in my opinion watching
from the outside that is limited phrase
that is a very highly likely way of
over-indexing because the truth is if
you want to be an anomaly you’ve got to
act like one you know like and so that’s
it that’s what I got so thanks for
having me
this test called the dark triad test
which again anything important like this
nobody ever learned it in school because
schools are too stupid to take real
powerful science and apply it to life
but the dark triad is a worldview
barometer for everybody watching you can
take it there’s a different free dark
triad tests online it tests for three
main traits negative qualities
narcissism Machiavellianism and being
psychotic and I’ve personally tested
thousands and thousands of people it’s
the most accurate test and what happens
narcissism okay one of the symptoms of a
narcissist it’s not just like oh I like
to look in the mirror right that’s what
we think of Narcy one of the classic
symptoms is very thin-skinned
they’re always offended if you have a
friend that anything you say
constructively they fall apart it’s
almost always narcissism even if they’re
introverted there’s multiple forms
there’s introverted narcissism
extroverted exploitative all these
different sub facets of narcissism but
we live in a society that’s very
narcissistic you’re told like everybody
is a winner
no not everybody’s a winner that’s like
saying everybody’s blonde there’s a
definition of what blonde is blonde is
like this yellowish air so you lose
meaning when you start going and
everybody’s blonde
well everybody doesn’t win and the
sooner you wake up to that that biology
is ruthless man then you get a little
fear in you and when you get a little
fear in you you start listening because
if you’re truly afraid you listen let a
little fear come in and drive you and
motivate you other theme in
entrepreneurship is there is way too
much fodder brought to the idea Hoover
was magic cab three years earlier
uber is not an idea uber existed it’s
called magic cab but the guys that
executed sucked so they lost so I think
you know if there’s any level of romance
left in this room about your idea I’d
like to suffocate it because I think the
actual situation is what you actually do
you have to go out and find people who
are successful financially and reverse
engineer what they did reverse engineer
REI keep that little acronym in my head
it’s all the most powerful acronyms that
you can remember are e reverse engineer
so for example when I was starting out I
was like what would it take to become a
millionaire and I go alright
win the lottery a lot of people play the
lottery and then some people one or two
become millionaires but if you reverse
engineer I asked myself this one day I
started study what makes the most
millionaires what’s made the most
millionaires and the United States
self-made not people who inherited their
money and the answer is tada
real estate now you don’t even have to
be trying to make a million dollars or
become a millionaire but just think
about that reverse engineer that and put
it into your life it’s not just about a
career but it’s about also passive
income because your careers active
income you work on your career you go to
your job even if you’re an entrepreneur
right but what about when you’re asleep
here’s a crazy statistic if you just
listen this person if you make what’s
minimum wage let’s say let’s just say 15
bucks an hour that’s $30,000 a year
right but what happens if you make $15
an hour 24/7 okay now that’s ninety
thousand dollars a year
triple it but you can’t work 24 hours a
day so that means you’d have to have
this thing call a passive income and
passive income means I locked myself in
my own living room here
well god this way I was filming over
here so what I started doing is going I
gotta have my active income job career
entrepreneurship but I want to reverse
engineer the passive income that the
most millionaires have ever the most
what has created the most millionaires
number one thing that scares me in life
is regret I really really really don’t
want to be on my deathbed whether that’s
tomorrow or when I’m 97 and think I
should have done that I should like
that’s that spooks me right like hard
work people judging me leaving you know
trolling me on social media like all the
stuff that normal people worry about I
don’t worry about I worry about regret
and so I’m trying to squeeze the
everything out of my life and so yeah I
number three number three studied two
multimillionaires do not take heed to
this do not study a millionaire once a
person becomes a millionaire the first
thing they do unfortunately is going to
conservation to protect the million
study multi millionaire study people
that have consistently developed and
proven because the tens or 20s or 30s
are hundreds of millions of dollars that
they’ve accumulated that they have the
right practice the right discipline and
they’re still expanding
you don’t need twenty two mentors study
two people deep that have gotten it
right study two people are so deeper
than 20 people shallow I promise you it
will make a difference if you get a
chance to spend three days with anybody
that’s accumulated thirty forty fifty a
hundred million dollars I’ll promise you
it’s a game-changer so put that on your
bucket list I’m gonna spend three days
with a multi-millionaire in an
environment where I can learn from them
it will be a game-changer for you and
also limit your study to two people not
twenty two people that will create you
from having conflictive data and content
there is definitely an epidemic of
overprotective parenting but it’s useful
to ask why and my suspicions are is that
this is driven by very fundamental
biological and cultural phenomena that
aren’t generally considered in
relationship to this issue we don’t have
very many children we don’t have 12 you
know six of whom die
we have one or two and that makes them
very precious right
we’re unwilling to take risks with them
and no wonder and then we also have them
much later in life and so like if you
have a kid when you’re 18 you’re still a
kid you know you’re gonna go out and
have your life right because you’re so
well you’re in the in the height of your
exploratory you’re in the height of the
exploratory part of your life you’re not
gonna over protect your kids because
you’re still a kid but if you’re 40 and
you have one child it’s like all your
eggs are in one basket and the
probability that you’re going to take
undue risks with that precious person is
very very low now obviously there’s some
advantages to that because great you
would devote resources to your child you
know and foster their development but
the downside is that you have every
motivation to hover and maybe you’re
also extraordinarily desperate as a
mother to maintain that bond with your
child because you’ve struggled so long
to achieve it it’s highly highly
valuable
you can’t take a risk well so these so
we might say well perhaps overprotective
parenting is a secondary and unintended
consequence of the birth control pill
and the fact that people now have
children later in life could easily be
no if you have six kids it’s like what
are you gonna do hi helicopter parent
them it’s like little yeah you’re so
tired you can’t even get off the couch
if you have six kids and there they
outnumber you right there raising each
other they’re competing and they’re
taking each other down a peg they’re not
there’s no overprotection there but with
it with a single child landscape or dual
child landscape
mostly a single child landscape then
you’re gonna over protect and then that
ethos starts to permeate the schools and
it starts to permeate the higher
education institutions as those children
mature and then that all reinforces it
not good it’s not obvious what to do
about it either because if it is driven
by demographics and that in that sense
it’s a much more intractable problem
than we think
so I did some of that in 12 rules for
life you know I said look you what you
have to understand is that you’re a
danger to your children no matter what
right you can let them go out in the
world and be hurt or you can over
protect them and hurt them that way so
you here’s your choice you can make your
children competent and courageous or you
can make them safe but you can’t make
them safe because life isn’t safe so if
you sacrifice their courage and
competence on the altar of safety then
you disarm them completely and all they
decisions fast people say man you’re a
hard man you’re a tough dude okay look
you’ve got to make hard decisions fast
when things get tough
they say the tough get going truth is
when things get tough
the successful make hard decisions
quickly
that’s why super successful people are
often misunderstood they’re willing to
make hard decisions that often don’t
make them look good and for which
they’re later judge the truth is for you
to be financially successful you will
have to make very very difficult
decisions when you do make them fast my
mom used to say if you’re walking
so I quit my job comfy corporate job
doing really well for myself and I’m
trying to get into media and so I’m
writing to every big media company with
before my videos and saying please give
me a job like I’ll come in like a video
journalist salary I was looking at
salaries that like a quarter of what I
made I was like I don’t care about the
money I want to make videos and I want
to spread a message I’m getting
rejection email after rejection email
saying Jay you never studied media Jay
you have no background so I’m getting
rejected by all the biggest companies
Business Insider HuffPost The Economist
wired you name it I’ve got all the
emails and then I try and network with
the editors of these magazines so I find
out where they are I go to the events I
try and talk to them and they liked me
hey man you’re like 28 years old why do
you want to do this you make more money
right now hang in the corporate world do
it as a hobby I remember running after
one of our biggest news anchors in
England called John snow and he rides a
biker in London he’s like he’s huge is
on Channel four one of the biggest
broadcasters for us her and so I’ve run
off to him when he’s on his bike and I’m
like John please please stop and he
stops he’s really kind and I said John
can you please give me a job I just I
don’t want to get paid I’ll just watch
you and I because he creates these
powerful documentaries he’s interviewed
the best of the best like Mandela and
all this stuff life-changing
conversations and he goes to me he gives
me a card and he goes Jay go get a
masters in media and come back I’m
thinking it’s going to three more years
yeah exactly I’m gonna go back like
anyway so I came to a point where I
literally had no other option than to
start a YouTube channel and and my
honest limiting belief at the time was
that doesn’t work for anyone and that’s
what I said to myself as well it’s not
gonna work for anyone but I literally
had exhausted I think it’s Thomas Edison
who says when you feel you’ve exhausted
every option remember you haven’t and
I’d come to that point where I felt I’d
exhausted every option
apart from starting a YouTube channel so
I launched the channel Jam 3rd 2016 two
I’m 20 years old and contracting here at
Michigan um the biggest pleasure
you know uh gain credibility of business
being doing in the industry

new to the industry not because you’re

the wrong room you go in a room yeah you
